Stephanie Wood | 5 comments Hi there! I was wondering if anyone would like to review 'The First Christmas' which is the first book in the 'Christmas on the Close' series?

I'm afraid I am a complete technophobe and cannot get to grips with PDF and MOBI etc, which is why I was unable to offer it before publishing, but this weekend I made it free on Amazon so that it was more readily available.

It's a contemporary romcom introducing some new arrivals on 'The Close' and bringing in other characters who will feature in future releases. I was hoping to get a feel for whether people find this scenario entertaining or uninspiring as the two reviews I currently have are completely at odds on the matter.

If this group is only for sharing files between individuals, I do apologise and I hope I haven't offended anyone, but in my current situation it is the only thing I can do and I hope other members will understand.

This is the Amazon link:

Thanks for your time,
Stephanie :)

Chrys Cymri Hi, I've downloaded it and I'll give it a go, although it's not usually the genre I read. Give me a couple of days though.

Stephanie Wood | 5 comments Hi Chrys and thanks for your interest. This is why I love Goodreads - discovering new authors and their additional interests. I'm now looking forward to finding out more about your love of travel and photography!
Take care :)

Chrys Cymri I went onto Goodreads etc because I was trying to promote my novels. I've now made new friends and discovered new authors--I ended up not checking Amazon for three weeks because selling novels has become less important to me. The journey is rather great fun!

Vicki (vickigoodwin) I picked up your book and will give it a read. I will have it finished in the next day or so. I might even get it started today. Thank for the link.

Vicki (vickigoodwin) I read the book First Christmas and thought it was very funny. I liked the characters so much. Imogen at first was a little prickly but as the book went on she grew on me. I enjoyed meeting the neighbors too. I reviewed it on Amazon. I hope it is a success for you. It was a fun read!! Thanks for letting me read this!

Hi Vicki, thanks so much for taking up my offer and reviewing the book so quickly! I'm glad you enjoyed the scenario enough to want to read more - this is what I was hoping for. If I can find a way to issue ARCs for the next books in the series I will offer them here, otherwise I will notify everyone of the free days option once they are published.
Thanks again for your interest, Stephanie :)

Vicki (vickigoodwin) I would certainly be happy to read an ARC and review it for you.

Chrys Cymri Hi Stephanie I'm afraid this isn't going to help you! Because I found it a bit boring. I kept waiting for something dramatic to happen, rather than being a tale about two newlyweds trying to arrange delivery of a new bed.
So you yet again have two people offering very different opinions!
I haven't put a review up on Amazon because it would be around the three stars. You write well, but I needed something to hook me in. Sorry!

Stephanie Wood | 5 comments Hi Chrys - thanks for taking the time to read and give me your honest opinion. I know this scenario won't suit everyone, so I'm sorry it didn't deliver for you. The Christmas books do tend to be a bit more of an easy-read than the typical novel, but I intend to put a bit more spark into each of the upcoming stories in the series and hope they will work as a package. Thanks again for your much valued opinion - for some reason I now want to give one of my younger characters a cuddly dragon toy! :)

Chrys Cymri As I was falling asleep last night I thought of your novella and wondered about some lingering mystery which could be a thread through all the stories... something each set of characters gets a piece of. And I can suggest great dragon names!

Actually, that is an inspired suggestion, but I'm not sure I have enough experience yet to make a satisfactorily intruiging mystery. At the moment the idea is to use the events mentioned in the first book (eg. the firework display, neighbourhood party, nativity play & next door's visiting guests) and describe them from each individual neighbour's point of view - thereby seeing each event from a different perspective with more focus on their individual interests.
That said, it would provide me with an ideal opportunity to introduce a running query over one particular incident.... so now you've got me thinking again! Time for some re-jigging I think... Thanks and take care :)

Chrys Cymri That's what I was thinking, something so that a reader can go 'aha!' in each story.
