ok V and S.
@Manju: All the best to us..slightly intimidating.. intimidating enough that I might postpone writing my year in books to the last day..
btw: Ghostwritten is so far captivating!

btw Vimal.. most of the Booker choices we agree.. loved Remains of the Day more than Never let me go..

True that.. And Remains of the day and Wolf Hall have been perennial tbrs, must get to them sometime.

Kickstarting this year's Booker with True History of Kelly Gang which won the Man Booker Prize for 2001.
"Out of 19th century Australia rides a hero of his people and a man for all nations: Ned Kelly, the son of poor Irish immigrants, viewed by the authorities as a thief (especially of horses) and, as a cold-blooded killer. To the people, though, he was a patriot hounded unfairly by rich English landlords and their stooges. In the end, Kelly and his so-called gang (his younger brother and two friends) led a massive police manhunt on a wild goose chase that lasted twenty months, in which Ned’s talents as a bushman were augmented by bank robberies and the support of nearly everyone not in a uniform"
Narrated as an autobiography of letters to the daughter he would never meet this is touted as an epic in reconstruction fiction!

Reached 20% and must say the book is considerably easier read than I imagined it would be. The language is simple and the voice of Ned Kelly is that of an emotional narrator.

Will start this evening. A Booker and a BR with all of you... yayyyy!!! :D
At around 45% and this book sure reads like a 80s movie script! Are we sure this hasn't been made into a movie yet?!
@Vimal, Manju : Where have you reached?
@Vimal, Manju : Where have you reached?

If I had read the book instead of listening to it, I might not have liked it... not sure, it is just a feeling I have.
Nice Sri! Reached around 80%.. Found the last 5% a bit boring so far what with nothing new coming from the characters.. We now know them so well, I feel like telling them 'Get it over with Mate!'

Finished it.. 3 stars.. End was a bit drawn out..
There is some fascination for outlaws in Australia! Incidentally I read another booker last year called The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith which was also about the 'first outlaw'.

A month almost.. Syl and I Kind of managed to squeeze in Number9Dream with a weekly read excuse..
Sri, I hope you finish it too! And Vimal - recommended for David Mitchell fans.
What's the next booker we are reading, maybe in March?
Vimal, your last reco was The Fishermen. I am okay with that or I have A Spool of Blue Thread among 5 other physical copies.

What say all? Shall we start this?

Am fine with it. Tyler is one of my favourites, and haven't read her for long. Let me know after you fix the date.

Which ones are you reading? These days I am also shifting focus to non-fics.
G and Syl - you two carry on. I have promised too many BRs in March to be able to justify another one. That said, if I get intrigued, I might just join. ;)
Hi Vimal...classics are awesome get backs. Good luck with your reading.
Sri... a couple of your March Bed are with me 🤣

Hey Sri, awesome. You know what, I've been reading some 'essay' collections lately, and needless to say who amongst us that reminds one of :)
Currently into Twentieth Century interpretations of Utopia, The Tell-Tale brain(it's bloody awesome I tell you) and Weapons of Math Destruction

Thanks Syl! True, the warmth and originality that some classics exude, I don't find it in modern books.

Exactly! Which is why I am quite reticent to join a new one! :P

Hahahaha!!

Sounds fabulous! Will definitely look into The Tell-Tale Brain.
We will wait for you for the next book Vimal. I think with Sivagamiyin Sabatham, my March month will be occupied.
@Syl: A spool of Blue Thread we will BR on this thread maybe in 3rd week on March.

I'm doing both together.. This through the audiobook route and brief marriage on kindle.. For you the above option might be a 2 day work.

Anne Tyler is funny and almost off-handedly clever! Some 3 chapters down and the book lives up to it's name in some sense..
Finished brief marriage and loved it.
A spool of blue thread is my kind of book. Funny and quirky. completed first chapter .

I agree Parikhit.. It does seem like a gem so far.. In 6th chapter and somehow remember all the family dramas common to every family i guess..
