I'm Divya, I am 22 years old and I live in Bangalore in South India. I am a huge fan of Emma and her work with the UN for gender equality. I find her to be such an amazing person and admire her greatly for the path she has taken in her life.
I am an avid reader and a closet writer, and my resolution for this year was to read a new book every week. This club seems to be the perfect forum for me to get suggestions from and discuss with other like-minded people about the books I love and the causes I support. I feel that it is always imperative to know where others come from, and even if two people have similar ideas, there is always some difference in experience which would make for interesting and enlightening conversation!
So here's to all you wonderful people! Looking forward to being part of this group.
Cheers!

I'm Chris, from CT. I love literature's ability to expose people to new surroundings and understandings. While my youth may have had limited variety, I have broken through with literature, and look forward to the opportunities afforded by each day and each new person I meet.

I'm Isabel from Virginia, USA. I'm currently a first-year in college/university studying neuroscience and english. Reading has been a huge part of my life for as long as I remember, and Harry Potter played a pivotal role in piquing my obsession with reading. From that, Emma Watson quickly became my role model because she is so poised and intelligent and motivated and wonderful. #goals
I started identifying as a feminist my freshman year of high school after going to a pretty liberal summer camp (CTY) and I squealed with happiness when Emma was announced to be the UN Women Ambassador. I'm hoping to read a lot more feminist fiction as well as discuss views on feminism in the world, both fictional and real. I'm hoping that reading these stories will inspire me more to contribute to making a change in my community. I'm glad to have found a group of like-minded individuals online, so thank you Emma for bringing us together!!

#HeforShe

Namaste!
This is Aditya, 21 from New Delhi, India.
I am really excited to be a part of this group. I have made a resolution to read as many books as i can in this year. Hope this group helps in keeping my resolution!

My name is Emily, I am 24 years old and live in Brisbane, Australia. One of my resolutions for 2016 was to read more, as I used to be such a bookworm but life has crept in over the last few years.
This book club popped up on my feed this morning and it sounds perfect! I'm interested in equality and the ways we as a society treat, and react to, each other. I'm excited to participate in some discussions, hear other opinions and points of view, and open my mind to what equality means to the rest of the world.
As my friends are spread out across Australia, this is also another lovely way for us to keep in contact!
I'm very happy to be part of such a beautiful group.

My name is Anastasia and I'm from Texas (USA). I am a professional artist and art framer. I love to read and have a very eclectic taste. I will read anything. I look forward to seeing which books are chosen.

I'm Cassie, 27, from Virginia (USA). I've always been a strong believer in equality, which I have always felt I owed to having so many different experiences thanks to my father being in the Air Force and us moving around a lot, but honestly never connected that to feminism until I saw our wonderful moderator's UN speech on the subject. I realized then that I am and always have been a feminist and proud of it!
I've always loved reading and when I came to my realization the first thing I wanted to do was read books on the subject of gender equality but had no idea where to start. And then I saw a Buzzfeed article (I don't have Twitter

My name is Carina and I'm 23. I'm from Norway. I'm currently studying journalism, but I have a bachelor in Drama and Film.
I joined because feminism is important to me and I love to read. Right now I'm reading 'No! I Don't Want to Join a Book Club: Diary of a Sixtieth Year' (how ironic) by Virginia Ironside

My name is Amy and I'm a 37 year old attorney living in Chicago, IL USA.
When the good old inter webs informed me that this book club existed, I just HAD to join!! 1) I love to read, 2) I've been wanting to join a cool book club in addition to the Harry Potter re-read club I'm a part of, 3) what could be cooler than a book club started by Hermione, 4) yes, a book club that discusses pertinent feminism issues with a diverse range of men and women around the globe! So, yeah, totally in and can't wait to learn, share and meet all of you other fabulous bookworms!!

I joined the book club because the purpose is really important and I would like to learn more about a feminism in a good way and no discriminatory, I did love the speech Emma gave in the UN, and also I would love to meet people from around the world.

Christy, 27, located in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Joined the group to be exposed to literary points of view to broaden my personal shelf.
I am loving the variety of places from which all these members are posting! Goodreads is an amazing community.

I am 20 years old and from The Netherlands.
Emma has been a great inspiration to me for quite a few years now, she tought me that it's okay to step up for myself against others if i needed to.
I have severe back issues that get under estimated by alot of people. They either tell me I'm able to do something i can't or i get treated like a complete disabled person.. luckily, due to me stepping up for myself: i recieve equal treatment now.

Jade Booth, i live in the Philippines...
I've always loved reading for as long as I could remember like probably most of you are; and I've figured that this would be a good place to expand the current genres I've been reading, which is mostly satire and the classics. Being in a group with like-minded people, it would be a privilege to learn and share some ideas with all of you.

Nice to meet you all! I am Raisa from the Netherlands. I am studying fashion at the art academy and in this sector there is are a lot of denigrating images towards both man and woman. I consider myself a feminist but I need/want to learn more about it. So I am very grateful for this club!
Thank you!
Much Love and peace.
Rais

My name is Mina. I am a first year student at a college in British Columbia, Canada studying Political Science.
I joined this group in order to be subjected to literature and people with whom I may share feminist ideas with, and to gain insight into other peoples interpretation of feminism.
I am very interested to see the nature of our discussions and what literature we share with one another!

I chose to join the club because I love Emma Watson's work (both through her work as an actress and through the UN), I love reading, and I want to learn more about feminism. What better way than through reading and discussion?

I'm Chelsie, I'm 21 and I live in Buffalo NY.
I definitely consider myself a Feminist, but I know I have so much more to learn. I have read so many blogs but for quite awhile I have been looking for a guided reading path that will help me be more knowledgeable and will push me out of my own experiences.

My name is Amelia. I'm 18 and from Melbourne, Australia.
I've joined this book club because I'm a huge fan of Emma's and what she's doing with the UN to promote gender equality. I love reading, so I'm excited to read different books with positive messages about feminism. I'm fascinated by feminism, and how there are still so many people who are against it, either because they don't understand the true meaning, or because they believe women are incapable of being equal with men.
Thanks Emma for creating this club. It's going to be an amazing year learning even more about feminism and different issues in the area that women have faced over the years.

My name is Sandy Le and I am 16 years old from Australia.
I joined this group because I love reading and I am constantly trying to discover new books that I may never come across until I am much older. Joining this group also checks two boxes of my new years resolution:
1. To read more inspirational novels and expand my horizon
2. And like the majority here, to read more books.
Last of all I would like to share a quote that I have posted onto my bedroom door.
"I am a feminist and we all should be feminists because feminism is another word for equality" -Malala Yousafzai

I've known about goodreads for so long, but this is my first account on Goodreads. I just made it since Emma post about this group in her fanpage.
My name is Sultan, I'm from Indonesia, I'm 25 and I'm interest in feminism since I was at university. It sure many of feminism ideas are juggling about how important woman's role but, I'm sure feminism is far deeper than just that.
and here I am, looking other perspective to discuss and learn more about this ideology and knowing more what we could accomplish together in order to create a better world for everyone.
Terimakasih!

Hi. I'm Maja from Norway. Joined because it seemed like a good idea, got excited when I saw so many interested people in this thread!
I'm 33 years old, a frilance writer and a born and bred feminist.

My name is Alyssa and I am from Colorado. I am 19 years old and am currently in my first year of college in Iowa. I am pursuing a degree in political science/religious studies/peace and conflict studies, and I have been an avid reader for my entire life!
I joined this book club because I believe that equality plays a pivotal role in achieving peace and reducing conflict. I admire Emma for her work in the field, and am so excited to expand my knowledge through these works and with this wonderful community!
I am excited to meet and talk with you all! :)

So lovely to see so many like-minded people gathering. :-) My name is Kat, I'm a 25 year old teacher from Belgium, and I joined for two purposes: a) to get recommendations about works about feminism that I haven't yet read and b) to get to share my responses to said works with people who are interested.
My MA is in post-colonial literature, and because post-colonialism is often intersectional with other minority/equality issues I do have some background in feminism, but it's more limited than I would like. I hope that this group will stimulate me to read and think more about this topic, which is very close to my heart.
Looking forward to talking with all of you, and thank you to Emma for starting this group!
Cheers
Kat

I'm currently a junior at a university in MN and I'm going to school for Journalism and Geography, with a minor in British Studies - however, I have a huge passion for all studies involving writing, literature, english, and so on.
I feel gender equality is so important in our daily lives and it affects so many people, that the more we can learn and share that knowledge with others around the world, the better this world will become. With this book club, I hope to achieve a deeper understanding of feminism in our society, and to meet some new friends from different places around the globe. Also to have a place to go where I can still be motivated to read and discuss, but while having a break from my school studies!
So interesting that you have a MA in post-colonial literature, Kat! I'm sure you will have a great, more unique, outlook on some of the discussions with your feminism knowledge with that background. Looking forward to your opinions! Also - I've always wanted to visit Belgium, Looks like a wonderful, beautiful place.
Can't wait to read and discuss with everyone! xx

The reason why I am joining this book club is because I think it is defenately true that we aren't where we want to be when it's about equality of boys and girls. Like yesterday at my gym class in school, I was lifting something heavy when my teacher came to my and said: Oh the boys will do that for you. ( like I couldn't do it but the boys could! )
I am noticing it so much more! That's te reason why I want to learn more and see it from people's different perspectives.
I am a proud feminist and think that it's amazing that Emma came up with this!
She is my number one inspiration and I can't wait to start reading!
Lots of love, Ghidy
Hello everyone.

I joined this book club because I consider myself a feminist but have yet to read any feminist literature. I would like to not only learn more about feminism and the world around me, but discover more about myself. Equality is one of my passions, and Our Shared Shelf has given me the opportunity to join a community with shared views and beliefs, allowing me to broaden my knowledge and experience on the subject.
Excited to start reading!

I'm Natalia from Poland and I'm 25 years old.
I think everything that there was to be said, already has been. It's great to be a part of this book club.
