Introduction

My name is Danika, I'm 27 and from Wellington, New Zealand.
I joined the book club to follow Emma's reading journey and to share in some of the learnings as I am really inspired by her stance on feminism and how she communicates it. It would be easy to get lost in a world of feminist literature, so I find it helpful to see the books being read and the journeys they weave.
Happy reading everyone!

I'm from Delaware too! Insane.

I am a bookworm. I have many a group before but for fun mainly while this group I have joined for some purposes.
I am only a student now. But After I complete my studies I have a plan to start a sort of NGO for those women and children who need help. I already have some of my friends to help me with.
In this group I wish to know everyone's opinion to hatch my little plan into work. I hope with everyone's blessing I can do my part .

My Name is Marco I´m from a very small town in the south from Austria I moved to Berlin a year ago.
Im a fashion designer.
Why I joined the bookclub... good question I love reading I never been in a book club soo,., first time ^^
I also want to meet new people from all over the world,
So here I am..
greetings from Berlin on a rainy sunday
Cheers Marco

I'm Raissa Cruz, am from the Philippines. I've been questioning double standards in the environment I grew up in since I was 4 and it was only later that I've been labeled as a 'feminist' as some sort of insult - which to me was actually a compliment once I knew what feminist meant. I am glad to have recommended readings on the subject and I hope to learn much from your thoughts and opinions here.

What may I ask is the situation with womens rights in the Philippines are there laws in place do you get equal pay for example.

The Philippines actually has many laws in place that encompass women's rights. We have a Women's Desk in every police station, Violence against Women and Children laws, the Reproductive health bill. Equal Pay is actually not a problem here., except maybe for maternity and paternity leave which is not a problem unique to my country. With these laws being in place, you'd think things would be better than they are. Implementation is a whole other matter though.

Still progress is being made every day and one day we will get there just have to keep working at it.

I've been reading the introductions, and like you, I joined because I love reading and, I want to learn more about feminism. So this book club is a good way to share opinions and learn from people all around the world.

My name is Tim and I'm from Missouri. I'm currently working on a Masters in English and have an undergrad in philosophy, and I was an analyst in the Army for a spell.
English (literature) and philosophy are some of my favorite things to study, as well as German. My German isn't that good, but I still have fun with the language.
I love to read, write and study various subjects - from history to contemporary culture. My favorite genre is science fiction and fantasy and comedy.
I wanted to join this book club for several reasons. One is that I've never been in a book club before and thought it would help me become more disciplined in keeping up with my reading of new books (or books I wouldn't have normally chosen).
Honestly, I'm a bit behind on the reading list, but am very glad I joined OSS between the discussions and the reading list. Half The Sky has been very interesting and I probably wouldn't have read the book if I had not joined.
OSS has also given me the chance to become involved in an issue I feel strongly about.
Cheers,
Tim

I joined Our Shared Shelf in the very beginning, but I forgot to make time for reading when we were reading The Color Purple. This week I finished The Color Purple, started How to be a Woman and ordered lots of books

my name is Isabella, 28 years old and I'm from Vienna, Austria.
I heard knew that this book club exists from the very first moment but I set up my good reads account just a few months ago and didn't had time to do much here as updating my bookshelfs.
My life is surrounde by books. I don't only love to read all day, I also work at a book agency.
My favorite genre is YA, biographies and sometimes romantic books. I love to read because it helps me to escape reality for a bit. It gaves me hope and let me dream or inspireds me.
I joined this club because I want to get to know others authors and genres and meet some people to talk about.
I may not be able to be as active here as I wish I could, but I will try my best.

My name is Daniela and I'm from Santiago, Chile.
I honestly love Our Shared Shelf, but it is hard to find the books in my country, specially in spanish. That's the reason why I'm very behind with the reading... I only have read the first book :(
Anyway, I always look for the books you are reading in diferent web pages so I can bought them online and be part of this amazing community.
I really want to know you, your thoughts and discussion about feminism in literature.
My best regards,
Daniela

My name is Rob. I live in Massachusetts, USA. I am new to being in a book reading group and am going outside of my comfort zone by joining. I normally keep to myself but am now trying to broaden myself and be more open and involved. I look forward to reading, discussing and learning here.

My name is Ana, I'm 40.I was born in Mexico but live in Chicago .
This is the first reading club I joined, I love to read in English and Spanish. And the reason why I join this group is because on this days is hard to find people that likes to read. so please tell me tell me how this group works, how can I see what book are you about to read or something..

I love to read every free moment that I have with the child very happy to spend with a book.
I joined the group because I like what that young girl like Emma promotes and encourages reading. Congratulations!
I hope you happy socializing and adventure in reading. Kiss to all :-)

I'm Lacey from Melbourne. I have always called myself a feminist but am only coming to realise what that truly means. I joined this group because I want to learn more and be apart of a group of amazing, strong feminists.

My name is Cortney, 22 years old, and from Mississippi. I've always had a passion for reading and I consider myself to be a bit of a bookworm and a feminist. I'm joining OSS not only to expand my bookshelves and my mind, but to have discussions with like-minded individuals. I've always admired Emma Watson and her role as my fictitious childhood hero, Hermione Granger. And as I've grown, Emma Watson herself has become a role model for me with her many works for equality. I'm so thankful that something like OSS exists and excited to start reading materials that I may not have picked up on my own.

I'm Laura, 31 years old, from the North of Spain. I'm a Psychologist and I'm currently doing a master in Clinical Psychology. When I finish I'd like to work with couples and families, that's why I need to know more and more about feminism and I think this group will help me a lot. I knew about it because of Emma's initiative of leaving books on the underground, what a great idea! I love reading and writing women stories, so I'm very excited and looking forward to discussing and learning from all of you.

I'm Lynnda. I am an Empathic Consultant and the author of Trusting the Currents, a spiritual novel. I never expected to be a writer until I started hearing a black, Southern woman's voice telling me a story. She changed my life. Now I am committed to helping people through profound change in their lives. My book is a guide. To my surprise, its won 12 awards. I believe women helping women is how the world will be transformed. Good to meet you all.

I'm Chantel, I'm 25 years old. Born and raised in Spain, Málaga. My dad is Spanish and my mum is English. I studied tourism and I am head of reception at a hotel in Marbella. Although I am currently on holiday and decided to come to Lyon for two weeks to do an intensive French course. I am absolutely loving the student life

I am Tabea, 19 years old and originally from Germany I am currently living in Uganda for work reasons. I followed OSS from the beginning and read the books but came only today around goodreads to sign up here to participate in discussions.
I am looking forward to great ideas, thoughts and others with an open mind for everything equality and
feminism in specific.

my name is Ines and I'm a computer scientist living in Germany. I hope joining this club will motivate me to take part in your interesting discussions. A few years ago I loved group reading and talking about books, but, you know... life happened and stuff. ;) I hope to get started with a more active reading life again and plan to join you in reading your current books in January.

Hi. My name is Lily, I'm from NYC and I'm so glad that I joined this group. I've been a fan of Emma Watson for a long time. I followed her career and now I'm following her work at the United Nations. She is an amazing and inspiring role model. I can't wait to see her Belle next year. I love to read and comment on books that I'm currently enjoying. I'm still learning what it means to be a feminist; and so far I'm just happy to have found my way here.

I was never really a big reader and have only about a month ago started reading as much as possible, it's hard to believe that until last month I hadn't read a book for self entertainment in 4 years! I am part of this group as I think Emma Watson is a inspirational women who's views on feminism and equality are something I too feel passionate about. I joined this group so I can also broaden my knowledge on equality and meet new people as well as hopefully making some new friends.
This is the perfect place to share my views on topics I feel strongly on, and hopefully get some good book recommendations so I can read as much as possible. Thanks

Like Emma, I'm an avid reader and a writer too. I'm also passionate about women issues and I believe in equality for women. I look forward to knowing all of you and reading books together.

Ciao, hi!!
I'm Francesca from Italy. I knew about Goodreads and this book club for a long time, but I've joined only a little time ago.
This group unites one thing I love, reading, and one thing I didn't think about very often, feminism. To me, we are all born equal and, I admit, it took me some time to realize that "some animals are more equal than others".
I have some personal reasons and experiences to read and talk about women issues, but I know I need more knowledge about a lot of themes and also different points of view.
I will try to read all the books already discussed and the topics in this book club. I hope they can help me to understand better some issues.
One last thing, surely something a lot of people have already said: the idea of this book club is brilliant, well done!
Bye!

My name is Naomi priddy I am a sophomore in higschool and live in Idaho. My town is quite conservative so I do my best to get out there, involve my self in the world and find my passion for what I care about. I have always sort of considered my self a feminist and I think and joining this book club was a way for me to learn more about feminism and articulate my points better. Emma Watson is a huge inspiration to me, her work with Un woman is quite fantastic and I am a huge he for she advocate! After college my goal is to eventually land a job at Un woman and I thanks Emma for inspiring me to do so. I knew I wanted to work to better the world but I was never really sure where that would land, or what form it would take. when I researched more about Emma Watson and her involvement I think I found my path! once I heard her one young world speech I was sold!

Feel free to message me or add me, I'd like to interact with more people who are interested in feminism & literature. This is the link to my book by the way, Dancing With Ghosts

Anyways, I hope all are well, and may you have a great year ahead.

my name is Lena and I´m from Germany. I`m 18 years old and I finished School in june 2016. Currently I´m living and working in peru, because I don´t know what I want to study yet. Here in Lima lot´s of persons think that womens are less important than mens. I´m also living in a patriachial society here. Everyday I learn so much about feminism and how important it is. I try to discuss this with the People here, but it´s a little bit difficult. I didn´t speak one word spanish before. Now I understand everything, but it´s still difficult to speak for me. No that´s not right. I speak and the People look at me like they haven´t got any idea of what I´m talking about.
So I found my shared shelf and I love the idea, that everyone can join and take part in the conversations.
By the way I love books and I read nearly everything.

I am Dixie, I am from Bridgeville, DE. I joined this group because I want to educate myself more on feminism so that I could use my knowledge and spread it to my peers. I figured what better way to do so than joining the book club of the UN Ambassador herself? I am excited to learn about everyone's perspectives and learning more from all of you. :)
