Introduction

I'm a raving feminist who loves books, so this group sounded great to me.

My name is Richard
The world is fortunate that there are people like you.
Little by little our society begins to woke up, whether it is a new evolucionary process or man begins to realise that something whit the ystem set up is wrong. A human is ill, he belives society accepted stereotypes and do not realise that many of them are incerrect, but this kind of community is able to cure him. We can no longer stand by and watch all this madness that take place in the world. Thanks to those who are awakened and understand that in the first place has to be human, society, nature.
I have observed many who do not think so at what they do on a daily basis, insults and humiliation sometimes does not seem to significantly, any wrong word can affect other people's for life, unknowingly somebody can make another person's life into a nightmare, so let us think about what kind of message do we provide every day, how we treat our loved ones, friends and strangers. Only way to have a friend is to be a friend :)
In my life i have made number of mistakes, but thank to people like you there are opportunities to develop myself and to learn. One wise man once said to me "make as much as possible mistakes, it will be to learn from".
Thank you to try heal this society, big dreams can make big changes. Do not lose yourself in this era where a human is taking huge steps towards prosperity, technological development and subconscious awakening.
You all are great and i hope that in this group i learn a lot of life wisdom and useful tips.

My name is Caitlin but I go by Cat most days
I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. I joined this book club because I feel that Emma is *my* feminist icon, having grown up with her story. So, when I heard she was going to do a book club, I wanted to be a part of it, to learn more about the trials and tribulations and the other people who are working towards a more equitable world. I want to be part of the change, and this seems a good way to start. Plus I greatly enjoy reading books that I may not have picked up otherwise.

I'm Geeta. I'm 34, from Trinidad and Tobago. I am a Family physician and a feminist. I am an avid reader and I am looking forward to learning and discussing feminism and equality. Usually, I am reading several things at once but hopefully I can keep pace with the group reading and participate in the book discussion.

Nice to meet you all. :)
.My name is Niels
Im a 20 years old and live in Belgium.
I joined this group cuz Im big believer in gender equality and ofc a big fan of Emma's work. I hope it get to know some of u and we can all learn from each other and help each other :)

My motto is -- We are our sisters' keepers. We must speak out. We must be the voices of those who cannot cry, who cannot speak out -- or up -- for themselves, who cannot demand justice, equality or basic human rights.
I'm thrilled that such a Goodreads group exists, and Crystal, I'm thrilled that you elected to take womens' studies classes. And I'm humbled and proud that my great-aunt's story has been taught in womens' studies and other university classes in the US.
The night she was murdered, her belongings were burned and her name was erased from the family. She was barely 16. I had to speak out, tell her story. And I hope that my participation here will inspire others to speak out and up for our sisters who, for any number of reasons, all of them bad, do not have that right and privilege.

I'm Laura and I'm an MA student from Finland, doing my thesis on English literature. I have a BA degree in English and have long harbored a deep love for all kinds of books and stories.
I also joined the group from the start but was not able to get my hands on the first book on time (I will read it after I finish writing my thesis, I promise). Luckily, I managed to order the second one so I can get started soon.
I've long considered myself to be a feminist and I'm excited to read and learn more. I'm always shocked when I hear someone I know talk about feminism as if it's a dirty word or an outdated concept in today's society. Hopefully reading these books will help me articulate some of my personal ideas about the matter to others as well.

While I have a million books on my list, I am always looking for more. I have always respected Emma for her work and her willingness to learn outside of what she knows and to understand the very complex and varied aspects of Feminism.
I'm looking forward to reading books I have never read before and to gain a deeper understanding of Feminism from different vantage points.

My name is Chelsea and I'm 22 years old. I am a test engineer for NASA's Orion spacecraft.
I am a big fan of Emma's and of her work in the UN. I have always been an avid reader, and I joined this book club to read more and be introduced to more books than my usual sci-fi go-to's.

I hope to read a few things that I wouldn't have otherwise by joining this book club. In general, I read a lot of fiction, so it would be nice to branch out a bit or just read fiction that's relevant to feminism. I'm also curious to see what others think--often I feel like I'm reading in a bit of a black box.
As for commenting on the person above me, all I can say is: OMG a rocket scientist!?! This book club certainly has some amazing members. Nice to meet you, @Chelsea!
Lastly, I'd just like to note that I plan on posting reviews of the books we read on my blog (it's a Lifestyle blog with books as one of the main focuses). You can read them at: lifestylebyjoules.com

I am an active reader and writer, and I could not be more thrilled to be in this awesome group.

My name is Juliette, I'm french, I'm 30.
There is french people out there?
I am a librarian in a small village.
I love book and read (I have my own blog about my readings : http://julietdelabib.blogspot.fr/
As a woman, I am attracted about the subject of this book club. I hope I will discover new readings, beautiful books and matter to think about feminism. I hope to share my (french) point of view with people from the entire world.

My name is Andrea from Nebraska in the U.S. I am currently an English major (Brit Lit concentration) with minors in Marketing and Women's and Gender Studies. I've been an avid reader all my life and continually try to grow my bookshelf, knowledge, and understanding of world through the perspectives of others. I can't wait to see how this group goes!

I'm Kyley. I feel like I am never very good at writing introduction posts... I am from Maine, USA. I'm 24 and a college graduate who now needs to figure out what's next which leaves me with quite a lot of time to read. I joined this book club as soon as I heard about it, I'm a huge fan of Emma, and have been trying to join different reading challenges to diversify what I read.

I'm Victoria and I live in California with my husband and 2 teenagers. I work as a teacher's aide in our local high school with special education students. I have loved reading ever since I was a young child. I was glad to discover this group, and hope to enjoy some new (to me), interesting, and thought-provoking books and the resulting discussions of this group. I'm glad our group has members from around the world & am looking forward to the various perspectives everyone will bring.

Happy reading to all!

Excited to join, liking what I see!

I have joined this book club as it is a place that I can learn from and grow with. I need to understand Intersectional Feminism so I can educate my daughter. Feminism taught me that despite being a survivor of many things, I can educate and help others. It has also given me an avenue to keep walking down and learning.
Crystal, the Eurythmics quote made me smile. That band got me through one of the toughest times in my life. x

I have joined this bookclub after I made an effort to start reading books last year and now feel lost without one. Not that I didn't read, I read newspapers mags and study books but at my own leisure only one book a year so rather poor id say. I like reading non fiction because its also educational and found myself looking into feminism curious after a sexual harassment case at work but also to learn more. Thats when I came across this bookclub, after googling Emma after reading newspaper article. Perfect learn more read more and with purpose. Thankyou Emma oh and yes Eurythmics are the best Angharad x

My Name is Destinie I am 24 and I am from California (U.S.A).
I joined because one,I am a huge fan of Emma.
Also because I love having a space to discuss feminism and reading more about it.
I am the only feminist in my family so I don't really have a lot of people to talk to regarding feminist issues. I also minored in Women Studies in college and I like to continue that study on my own.
Look forward to everything :)

I'm Lisa (36) from South Africa, I'm a psychiatrist and a lot of my work focuses on women's mental health and improving care for women with substance use disorders.
I have always considered myself a feminist; but last year when I gave birth to a baby girl, I realized just how severely women are still considered second within our country- (I will never forget how many people would look so very sad and apologize to me once they learnt the sex of my unborn child) boy children are prized but girl children are meant to 'sit there and look pretty'. I want to raise my daughter to be an independent and strong young woman within a social structure that will likely disallow this.
I joined this group because I applaud Emma's work (and I love reading and gaining insight). I think that within our society we need more strong female role models like Emma who by their actions encourage equality among men and women; and who can serve as strong, positive for girls and young women.
Destinie, Women Studies sound fascinating, as does your drive to be a feminist and to continue to grow your knowledge within a family who may not quite understand.
Looking forward to reading with you all.

Thanks to Emma for this chance.

I joined this group not for a number of reasons. first, for a personal interest to dwell deeper into feminism and its related issues [past, present and future ] to be able to learn and grow as a person , and in doing so helping others grow and learn as well.
secondly, as someone who travels a lot to different places around the world, I'm interested in discovering stories and hearing from women/girls from all over the world, and their cultures/traditions/religions,etc as I learning about them enriches everything, life and art.

I'm Ruth, a teacher working in a high school just north of Manchester, UK.
I am interested in all things related to equality issues - but especially related to education!
I also love to read - so thought this book club was a great focus for my reading this year.
I'm rather excited!! Take care all... Rx

Since I'm new, I'm waiting for the March book and will hopefully catch up on the previous ones when I get the time. The reason I was inspired to join this group was because I've always believed in equality whether its on race or gender. And of course since Emma is running this, I knew I'd be in contact with very smart and dedicated people that want to make a change in the world.
I love reading books, but I just tend to be picky. I'm very excited to be learning more about feminism because in my career choice of being a woman in IT, I've experienced judging (underestimated) and competitiveness, instead of teamwork.
Also because I've recently seen a documentary about India and how cruel they are to woman and how strongly they look down on them... it really breaks my heart.

I joined because i believe its going to be a great place to meet like minded people and educate myself further in the world of feminism.
Soraya, your name is beautiful!!

I'm Ann, 48 years old & live on borders of Essex & East London.
I'm a latecomer to exploring feminism and feminist issues but looking forward to discovering more through the recommended books and subsequent discussions,

As a quasi-tomboy, I've never liked being told that I had to do this or that, or I must dress like this or that simply because I'm female. This tends to seep into each strong female character I write. I love that I found this group, and I look forward to reading the books of the month! I joined just in time for March's read.

My name is lena 23, I'm from Geece and I work as a food and beverage manager. I believe that every woman is unique and shouldn't be confiend by society. My family has stong women that aren't afraid to speak their mind and live their lives the way the want. I admire them so much and I aspire to be one of them! One of you! So lets get it started with that bookclub, shall we?

my name is Britt, I am 44 and living in Wiesbaden, Germany.
I have loved books - and women ;-) - for all my life and I am totally convinced that any decent and sensitive human being simply *has to be* be a feminist.
Stumbled across this club because I am a huge fan of Emma's work both on the movie screen and for UN.
I am just about to finish "My life on the road" (loving it!) and looking forward to reading a lot more interesting new stuff with this group. :-)

I joined this club since I saw that in a new about Emma Watson. I am a hug fan of her since her first Harry Potter movie (I am potterhead too). I love to read and fighting for equality, so this group would be great for me!
I want to know about feminism in other countries too, and the vision of feminism in books that I don't kmow.
See you!

Hi, my name is Elena, I'm 26 and frm Italy. I have a degree in Print Culture and Journalism and now I'm studying to become a librarian.
I think that the struggle for gender equality is important, and if we want a change, we have to work in order to make it happen.
See you around!

Hello everyone. My name is Tehreem but my friends call me Terry.
I joined the book club a while back but I have a tendency of getting distracted by books on goodreads.com and, well, I neglected to introduce myself.
I love to read and aspire to be a writer one day. A fledgling dream.
I joined this book club-my very first- because although I identify as a feminist, I have not read that many books based on the issue.
Looking forward to learning more about all of you and broadening my horizons.
edit: I forgot to mention I am from Pakistan :P and a sobering 26 years old.

Hello Elena. Nice to virtually meet you :)

I am Vaishnavi, a 16 year old feminist living in India.
I consider Emma Watson an inspiring role-model for this generation and I have been a huge fan of hers ever since Harry Potter! Kudos and thank you to Emma for organising this!
I am joining this book club as gender equality is something that I am passionate about and something in my opinion, should have been achieved a long time ago. I also like writing about generally misinterpreted issues, controversial topics and . You can read my opinionated articles in my blog: outspokenspeakers.blogspot.in
Can't wait to learn and grow from this platform and looking forward to all the engaging discussions!

Excited to continue reading.

I'm Robert and I thought I would add some more diversity to the introductions. I am a man and I am over 55. I have been a feminist for 40 years since I dated a woman enrolled in the brand new "Women's Studies" major at UC Santa Cruz here in California.
In my professional life I have mentored many women helping them attain senior technical positions here in Silicon Valley. One of my biggest concerns is the toxic masculinity I see in technical communities. The hazing and sexist put downs. I have seen most of the women in my field, web farm server wrangler and software development, leave the field after 10-15 years. As I like to say, the women keep waiting for the boys to grow into men, but they don't. I am involved with many technical meetups. I am trying to engage young women on this topic helping them articulate their problem of working in a toxic environment, set boundaries and find allies in other women in senior management.
I am the father of two wonderful adult daughters. A favorite quote:
"Something interesting often happens to men when they become fathers to girls: they develop a deep and new found sense of empathy and compassion for women, and why? Because they see these atrocities happening to other women and know deep down that it could just as easily happen to their daughters."
Josh Misner, Good Men Project

Thank you, Robert, for doing good work in the Tech Field. Did you read the recent article in the New York Times magazine about the Google research that shows meetings are more productive when everybody feels that they're in a 'safe' environment? It relates directly to what you mention in your intro.

My name is Cami and I live in the heart of Chicago. I am currently a graduate student studying public health with a focus in global health (specifically women's health). Having had the privilege to work abroad I have seen how disparities between men and women have the power to negatively influence health.
I am super excited for this group and can't wait to discuss with all of you!!
