Introduction

Really looking forward to reading some interesting books and making friends! feel free to send a friend request!
Happy reading!

Ok, well, my name is Verónica (with the accent, but you can call me Veronica) I'm 24 and I'm from Portugal! :D I'm a book lover (duh) and I also love photography and making bookmarks :3
I joined this group mostly for book recs and to get to know more people here on GR. Why book recs? Heh, it's rather hard for me to keep up with book clubs' reading lists considering most books either aren't published here yet or I can't buy them :\ But! I'm looking forward to hear about more books and adding them to my never-ending TBR list :D
I'm also here cuz Emma said so xP And I love what she's doing now, it's an inspiration :)
And yeah, that's it ^^

I'm Katie a 30yr old from Colorado. I have always believed in the importance of feminism and equal rights, but never felt like I had a leg to stand on when it came to speaking out. I'm hoping that by joining this book club it will give me the courage I need to stand strong. This club will be my sounding board and backbone so to speak. A place I can go not only for great books to read, but also support.

I'm a 25 year old trainee teacher in England. I'm here based on a burgeoning interest in women's rights, alongside a lifelong passion for reading.
Hello, Goodreads group!

I'm from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I'm 31 and work at a university in student services; additionally I'm a graduate student in a Masters of Public Health program.
Excited to join this group and continue some online dialogue about feminism, intersectionality and equity.

I've always been a reader, but it is my first time joining a page like Goodreads. After realizing that maybe my country kinda needs feminism I decided to investigate more. This seems like the perfect opportunity to do that! I'm really excited to get to know everyone and to read all the future books. It's wonderful to meet all of you!

I absolutely love your introduction! ;) I would love to visit Middle Earth someday!

My name is Brittany and I am 25 in two weeks (quarter life crisis!) I live in Melbourne, Australia. I am passionate about both reading and feminism, so this book club is perfect for me.
I deeply admire Emma Watson and her passion for activism.
My favourite books are the Harry Potter series, Pride and Prejudice and the Outlander series.
xxx

I joined this group because Emma was starting it. However, when I found out what was the focus, I thought that it would be a nice balance for me. I work as a social worker so activism and being an advocate is part of my makeup.

I have been following Emma's career through my whole life it feels starting with Harry Potter. When she got the spot in the UN and worked on her He for She campaign, I got very interested in her view points. I am here because I know very little about modern feminism, and would love to know more. I am a bookworm so this will be fun!
:)

Like many others here, I stumbled upon this book club through following Emmas career, especially since her work with UN. As soon as I heard about it, I thought "This is perfect"! I feel like feminism has helped me during my recovery from mental illness and I'd like to read as much as I can, but don't really know where to start - so for me, this club is a great opportunity to get to know and discuss feminist literature and, well, get started.
So hello everyone :-)

I hope to find many wonderful book and article recommandations here and to just have a good time reading with all of you together. Have a wonderful day :) !

I've been a fan of both books and Emma Watson for a log time, and I've been Reading a lot about feminism the last couple of years, so I hope this group will help me understand more about feminism and the world.
It's a pleasure to meet you all.

My name is Becky and I am from Michigan. I am 55 years old and was raised in the 60s. The interesting thing is, I have always been a strong feminist, but felt that woman just had to push their way in, being strong and positive. I am learning that doesn't always work - I have just learned that I am the lowest paid manager in my organization, and even more to the point, the only female manager. So it's time to wake up and I think this will be very good for me.
Time for a change. Thanks all!

I'm Stefania and I'm 22. I live in the north of Italy and I'm very excited to be joining this group! I'm very busy studying so I can't keep up with all the conversations, but from the few I read I can see this group is full of very open-minded and clever people, and this makes me even happier :)
I've always been a feminist and I deeply admire women like Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie who use their visibility and celeb-status to really try and do something to change the still very discriminatory world we live in...
I would have liked to read this month's book but it's very hard to find here in Italy... I'll try with next month's book ;)

My name is Veronika and I'm 20 y.o. woman from Czech republic. I'm currently studying czech language/literature and theatre studies. I've joind this group because - as you may say from what I'm studying - I love to read in the first place. I admire Emmas work and want to join a community, which is interested in feminism.
Canť wait to read together and discuss the books and feminism!
Nice to meet you all!
PS: Sorry for my english :D

I joined this group because from what I've heard and read I love what it stands for. First off reading is awesome, being a woman is awesome, and learning more of our struggle past and present is awesome. I think it is so important and I hope to learn whateve I can about the feminist movement.

A) i would like to go back to read as many books as i can like i used to before lawschool.
B) history of feminism is interesting and i always found myself reading books about strong women who some how succedded in their life by sticking to their beliefes.
C) i love Emma Watson and her idea of this bookclub.
my favorite author is Patrick Rothfuss. he wrote "The name of the wind" and "A wise man's fear". if you red his books you probably know that his main character is a young man, but what i like about his books that the women characters are strong, smart, beautiful and well, not in the edge of the story but part of it. read his books, you'll know what i mean.
I hope to learn a lot from you guys!
enjoy the reading!

I'm from Israel too. I don't know if there are more from Israel, I hope there are more.
Loved that book too, in February the second will be published in Hebrew and I can't wait to read it.
בהצלחה בהמשךהדרך

My name is Bryan from the heart of the USA in the midwest. I'm probably the most liberal person within 100 miles of where I live.
Anyways, I am a 22 year confused college graduate lost in limbo right now. So my goal is to read 100 books in about 6 months.
I guess I joined this because I have a huge interest in feminism right now. I even started an informative Youtube series where I talk about it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer plus Emma Watson put me onto this movement which is both a blessing and a curse.
Anyways, I should probably go to sleep.

I'm from Israel too. I don't know if there are more from Israel, I hope there are more.

i red the second one in english.. but i would love to read it again!
i hope the third will come out this year.. can't wait!
amazing news! enjoy the reading!

I'm Cloé, a 23 year-old from France.
I've decided to join this book club because I think it's a great way to bring people together and to discuss such an important topic as feminism. I think it's also a great way to be motivated to read more about this great subject, as everyone is reading the same book at the same time !
I see some people talking about their favorite writers, mine is Elizabeth Gilbert. I love her books and admire everything she does in order to empower women to be more creative in their lives!

I joined this book club because I wanted to read more this year and I also needed some inspiration to achieve more things. Feminism is a topic that makes me feel empowered and I feel like reading about it already makes me more motivated. I also love Emma Watson of course so when I read the news about this I felt like this was just what I needed.
My goal this year is to read two books each month: the one on the book club and one that I choose. As I am studying right now I know that I may not complete this each month and that's fine (although I'm motivated I need to be realistic jajaja) so my 2016 goal is to read at least 12 books.
I'm happy to learn lots of new things and see the perspective of women of all ages and from all over the world!

I joined this book club because I figured that this would be similar to Brandon's HONY in that people would be respectful and we'd all actually learn from each other here! I'm really excited to become more familiar with what feminism truly is and to learn more about how it is approached globally. I love reading, but I haven't read any books that are primarily about feminism - what better place to find them than here?? I also joined because I respect everything that Emma has accomplished in her life thus far and I want to be able to make positive change in the world, as well.
Thank you and happy reading!!

I joined this group because I want to learn more about feminism and equality. I consider myself as a feminist. And reading is the best way to learn.
Thanks!

My name is Ieva and I am 22. I am originally from Lithuania but have been living in the UK for the last four years.
I have always heard the 'feminism' term thrown around, especially whilst at university, in both negative and positive light. As I come from an ex-Soviet Union country, discussions about issues like these are not very common back home. I guess people just 'get on with it', thats why I was never really educated on this topic.
However, I find it really important and interesting. Especially as a young woman trying to make it in the business world.
I am very glad I have stumbled upon Emma's book club- I look forward to learning more and meeting likeminded people from all over the World.
All the best ,
Ieva
P.S. I only bought 'My Life on the Road' yesterday and have not been able to put it down since.

I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am 31 years old and run the towns local Waterstones bookshop in Dorking, Surrey. I just started our stores first bookclub, but I wanted to join a virtual one as well to see how they are run, and to keep myself from falling into a book-rutt. I love the work that Emma is doing with UN Women and wanted to read some more books on feminism and human rights.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what else we will be reading and discussing, and getting to know you all better.

My name's Caroline, I'm 23 years old and living in Switzerland (near Zurich).
I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and I love reading so I thought I'd join Emma's book club and get to know not only new books but also people from around the world. I also hope to learn some new point of views :)

My name is Tessa, I live in The Netherlands, am 24 years old and currently conducting my PhD research in science education.
I loved Emma's inspirational speech for UN, and I wanted to educate myself by trying to understand more about (in)equality. I also love to read good books, especially on a topic so close to my heart, That is why I joined.
Thank you Emma, what you are doing is very important and very admirable. I am looking forward to reading and sharing in this book community!
Have a great day everyone!

I'm Fatima, and I live in Dubai. I'm seventeen and in my last year of high school. Reading has always been a big part of my life and I thought, why not make it into something more than just a good novel on a sunny day (no rain here)? This year I want to read more books that can change my life, either because it's the story of someone's journey I can learn from, or an eye opener that will change me.

I am Justine, 23 and I live in France.
I just created my account on Goodreads to be able to join this group, an amazing initiative that I look forward to participating in! Sometimes, when reading feminist essays, it can be frustrating not to find someone who read it too or would like to read it, or even doesn't keep asking if we should be feminist instead of discussing the issues brought up in the book. So I am really glad this exist (worldwide moreover!) and look forward to reading everyone's stories and opinions on here!
Also, after noticing many of us are more or less in our twenties, so we grew up with Hermione's brave intellectual character and JK Rowling's success story to look up to, I found the parallel with this bookclub and what it stands for wonderful !
Have a great day :)

I love reading, so my happyness arribed when she created this group.

My name is Maggie, and I'm from Wisconsin. I joined this group because for the last two years, feminism has been very important to me. And for all my life reading has been one of the most important things! What better way to marry my two passions?
I hope to find some great books to use in my classroom eventually to talk to my students about feminism. Looking forward to starting!

My name is Andrea, I'm from Austria, I have a bachelors degree in translation studies (English and Russian) I'm currently working on getting my teaching degree for English and German, because I love teaching, languages and - duh - books.
I joined this club because I'm a feminist since I-don't-know-when and I obviously love Emma and her efforts. But most of all, I hope that I can find fellow believers in equality and discuss great books with them here. Plus, I hope that this group will help raise awareness :)
Unfortunately, I will have to wait for the February book to join discussions, since it's finals right now in Austria, but I'm sooo excited!!!

Well said! I tell my students that all the time--sadly, most don't believe me.
