My name is Fanny, I'm 21 years old, from France.
I've been very attached to equality for as far as I can remember, and I've been calling myself a feminist since I was 14.
To know that a great person like Emma is doing such an amazing work for feminism and equality everywhere is so heartwarming !
I'm a big fan of Emma of course, both of her acting career and her UN / humanitarian work.
xoxo :)
Hi everyone
My names Noor im 20 living in the UK a business student :), to be honest i dont know if i consider myself as a feminist but i do believe in the fact that society does sometimes suppress women thinking that we're "weak" but we are the exact opposite.

My name is Elise and I am a librarian in snowy Colorado, USA.
I took a literature class during my undergrad degree called Women in World Thought and Literature. It was so interesting and eye-opening. It's always been an interest of mine to learn about the deleted history of women.
I am very excited to join amazing women from all across the world in the common goal of gender equality and enlightenment.

My mother is who introduced me to feminism, but in the past few years, (thanks to the internet mostly) my interest in feminism has grown so much. I'm so excited to connect with other young feminists and hear what everyone has to say! This is such a great environment in which we can learn from and inspire each other. Best wishes to you all! <3

I'm Neha, an 18-year-old business student from Pakistan.
I love reading and can't wait to read some amazing books about feminism that will open my mind further to things that will help me raise awareness about inequality where I live.
I adore Emma and her work with the UN.
Lovely to meet you all,
Cheers!

I'd love to talk to more readers! Feel free to message me!!

I joined this club because I love reading, I follow the HeForShe movement and I admire Emma Watson as an artist and woman, she is a role model for me.
I hope to read new books out of your recomendations and be an active member of this amazing group :)

I look forward to the empowering books and discussions we will take part in and I hope to get to better know many of you like-minded people!
<3

I'm Camilla from Italy, I'm almost 22 and I'm an interpreter and translator.
I've been a fan of the Harry Potter world ever since I read the first page and I immediately related to Hermione as a character. But when I realized what a great person Emma was, well, that became really inspiring.
I joined the group because I want to learn more about feminism, as I haven't had the occasion to look into it yet. So I'm looking forward to nice discoveries and good life lessons.
So thanks Emma, now let's plunge into the first book!

My name is Diane; I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; and I have been a feminist since the early 1970's. I work for Women Against Abuse, and actively volunteer for Women Organized Against Rape, both in Philadelphia. I am also a licensed attorney.
As a second wave feminist, I joined this group hoping to learn more about current feminist thinking. Onward!

I became interested in this particular group after reading about it online. I am a keen feminist and am hoping to expand my worldview, broaden my literary experience and hopefully make some friends along the way.

My name is Katie and I live in Philadelphia PA. I work at a bookstore and I read all sorts of things, all the time. I was a literature major, and I miss the lively discussion of the classroom so I'm really looking forward to interacting with this group!
Thanks!

I am a teacher of infant school.
I teach about de equality of my students, for my is very important.
I love about this proyect I hope learn more about this and know more books about this issue.

I am joining this book club because not only am I am an avid reader and a huge fan of Emma as an actress and activist, but I am proud to say I am a feminist. I hope to learn more about feminism through this book club, both historical and contemporary and hope to turn that knowledge into action some day soon.
I think this book club is an amazing opportunity to show sceptics that feminism is fun, important and most importantly INCLUSIVE. The openness and postive energy that this club is already generating is an example of that.
Here's to reading and postive change for gender equality in 2016!

I'm Ellie, 20, and I live in England. I'm currently studying biology at university.
I joined this group because I love to talk about books, and I would like to expand the range of books that I read so I can broaden my mind to some new and inspiring material. I also joined because I believe all genders should have equal opportunities, but I don't know very much about modern feminism, so I thought this would be a good way to find out more.
Looking forward to discussing the books with you all :)

I decided to join this club so I can get a better understanding of myself and the world we live in.
I was one of those persons who was afraid to call herself "feminist", as it seemed a bad word. Also, seeing how some of my female teachers were rude to guys who called themselves feminists was weird; I asked myself "Isn't feminism about equality and supporting one another?" I was quite confused!
Then, Emma gave this amazing speech and I understood feminism. Yes, it helps to read some theory books or do gender studies, but life is full of examples of why we need feminism and how more people than we know are feminists! That's what I like of this book club, some of us might study English or some fancy degree, but others might just be interested in reaching a better understanding of themselves, and this book club opens the doors to this dialogue and allows us to find a support system where we can learn and expand our horizons.
I'm thankful for Emma and her initiative to start this platform and allowing us all to be part of it. I hope we all can make the best of this!

I confess I have never watched any Harry Potter, I just read about this group and think it's really what I want/need.

I was so excited to hear about this book club. I have not taken any formal classes on women's issues/ history but as I do research and read more, I find I want and need to educate myself. I think when we as woman are doing 'okay' for ourselves, we forget women all around the world as well as where we live are limited and oppressed. I know that in order to be a better woman and a better advocate in my community and abroad I need to be aware of past and present issues and struggles.
So what I want most from this experience is knowledge and perspective.
"The first step toward speaking for others is speaking for ourselves. "-Gloria Steinem.

My name is Sarah-Eve, and I'm from Montreal, Canada. I'm currently studying Creative Writing in university and I realized I've never actually been in a book club before, which is a tragedy. So, I figured a feminist book club would be the ideal place to start!
I joined this group because I still cannot believe not everyone on planet earth identifies as a feminist. We should all be feminists. I'm sure we'll stumble on books I've read before, but I thought this would be a lovely opportunity to discover new works or new authors, and to discuss things I'm passionate about with like-minded people, and hopefully make a few friends! I can't wait to talk about the first book with everyone at the end of the month! Cheers!

I'm interested in following this group and reading the suggested books.

I love Emma - that's obviously part of why I joined this group. I admire her bravery, her tenacity and strong-willed fight for He for She and in bringing in equality. Another reason why is because I myself had faced some racism and slight, subtle sexism when I interact with other people outside of my country, or even in it (there are quite a lot of different sub-races and religions and dialects here), and I also actively partake in the feminism movement (or equality, or womanism, whatever it's labelled) and I want to better myself about the topic in here. This seems like such a cool place to just be discussing about stuff all of us are so passionate about, and I hopefully can make some new book buddies too!
Hey Sebastian - welcome! Also, how cool is that that you've studied film? I'm interested in that, too. You sound really amazing, glad to meet ya!

Have a great day everyone! :D

My copy of the first book should be arriving today! Excited to get started!
Hello Everyone! My name is Beth, I'm 23 and I live in Delaware in the U.S. .
I am so excited to learn about some new books written by some incredible women.
I am so excited to learn about some new books written by some incredible women.

I'm Bee, I'm from London but currently based in Newcastle, UK. I am a feminist and a christian. I'm really interested in the crossover between the two and gaining broader perspective of what feminism means to people.

Women's rights and gender studies have been a personal interest of mine since I began college. I have also been an active member of women engineer' socities in Turkey, where I observed many hardships women face on a daily basis - and realized that I, too, was facing constant discrimination in insidious forms myself. These all made me a generally more aware person regarding gender issues. So, I eventually decided to take a course on gender and politics to have a solid academic knowledge, but I have never been able to actively discuss what I learned in the course. I also don't want to limit myself to the course content and learn from the others' views and experiences as well. Thus I think this group will be the perfect platform to do so!
No need to mention that I grew up with Harry Potter series and Hermione Granger was my imaginary best friend and role model for a looong time - our personalities and attitudes are very similar that it's an inside joke in the family. They call me Hermione when I lose myself in a heated debate or start explaining random stuff to clueless folks.

I decided to join this group because while i've always been a feminist, and believed in equality, i don't always have the chance to have discussions on books about it. I also want to read more about this topic, so i love all the recommendations so far. I can't wait to see how the discussions go!

My name is Heidi, I am 30 years old and from Denmark. I am currently studying to take my masters in Litterature and Social studies. I am writing my thesis on gender and find this discussion board very inspiring.
I'm very excited to read and discuss gender issues with you all.

My name is Chaya, and I'm a student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks studying Elementary Education and Biology. I've been interested in exploring feminism more deeply and critically for some time now, and this book club gave me the perfect opportunity to do so!
I'm looking forward to reading a wide selection of books and discussing topics that will thoroughly distract me from my schoolwork ;)

i'm Serena, 21 years old from Rome (Italy).
i'm a books lover, feminist, theatre actress. i'm here 'cause on April/May i'm going to write down and act my own monologue about feminism and equality and this group is so inspiring!
you are all going to be my ispiration! thanks a lot <3

I have joined this book club because I aspire to work towards gender equality in South Asia, with the hope that this platform will help me expand my knowledge along various gender dimensions. Also, Emma is such an inspiration! Really looking forward to some amazing conversations and great stuff to read.<3 much love.

My name is Jessica, I'm 30 years old and living in the United States.
I am an avid reader of everything and anything and I have been collecting books since I was a child. I love learning and getting the opportunity to discuss things that I have read. For years I have been searching for a Book Club that would not only introduce me to great books but also give me a platform to talk with others about what I had read and to be able to learn from others in the process.
Ever since college I have identified myself as a feminist and am very excited for this opportunity to branch out and learn more about feminism and hear from others.
Thank You Emma for this incredible opportunity!!!

One way to do that is for me to share as many stories of diverse women and their stories--fiction and nonfiction--so that she knows both that she is not alone, and that there is room in the world for all of us, in all of our variety.
I very much admire Emma's work to better the lives of women around the world, and am delighted to be able to participate in this group as much as I can.

I had planned before Christmas to make 2016 my year of woman's studies. By concentrating on consuming women created/written content (whether it's books, films, art, TV show, comedy shows, scientific papers… etc, suggestions more than welcome). I'm also doing a free online Stanford University course on International woman's health & Human rights (It's free so join me!! https://lagunita.stanford.edu/courses... ). I was talking of my plan to my little sister who is 16 and she told me about this club and I punched the air with excitement!
I hope to achieve a better understanding of woman's issues and to consume as much female generated content as possible to offset the ridiculously large amount of male created content I've consumed in my lifetime. Having a little sister who is 8 years younger than me has also made me want to make the world a better place for her.

Hi Tragic Sandwich,
I can assure you that just by being a triathlete you cannot be lazy!
I used to work in a primary school in London as a Teaching assistant and loved working with the autistic children in my classes, the way they communicate and see the world was so inspiring.
I forget the reach Emma Watson has, as a brit of a similar age I've kind of grown up with her about and was so excited reading this feed, realising how much of an international community this will be. So hello from the very grey UK and I hope we can all make this planet a better place for our daughters.

I'm learning a great deal from my daughter, and am always grateful for the people who help others. Thank you!

Anyway, I am Mary. I'm 32, from Los Angeles, CA. I joined for a lot of reasons.
1. I've never participated in a book club beyond my little two person book club at my work.
2. I love all the work and effort Emma Watson is doing to bring gender equality to the world. To see women use their fame for good makes me so very happy. Plus, I'm a giant Harry Potter nerd.
3. I love to read.
Looking forward to this!!
M.
