Myriam Mansour | 1 comments Hey everyone !!!!!!!
I'm Myriam and I'm from Canada. I'm so glad and happy to be part of this book club. I never really thought of myself as a femenist, but thinking about it, I always wanted equality, justice and that our rights, as women, will be respected (and of course other things, femenism goes beyond this). Futhermore, I really appreciate to read and I love to travel through books. I think this club will be a nice opportunity to learn more about femenism but also about the world we live in. (as you might see my english is not on point, I'm from the french part of Canada ;) )

Big love all, and as Malala said, «education is the key to peace, and success»

Rebecca Wilson | 1 comments My name is Rebecca. I am an almost 40 year old teacher from the United States. I have followed the amazing things that Emma Watson has been doing for equality. A book club based on this is right up my alley. I mostly read books my students read and am looking forward to reading something for myself.

Mary Bronson | 17 comments Hello Everyone!

My name is Mary and I am 26 years old from Johnson City Tennessee in the USA. I am a huge fan of Emma Watson and have been since her first appearance in Harry Potter. I admire her for her courage to stand up for women everywhere. I am excited about this group. I can not wait to start reading the books. I am also a HUGE Book Nerd. I love reading anything and everything.

This year I am trying to continue a reading challenge call #ReadWomen this challenge is to read as many books by female authors as I can. Last year I read I read 68 books by female authors. This year I am hoping to read more.

Hello, my name is Andrea, and I'm from Germany. I'm 14 years old. Please ignore any grammar mistakes, I'm obviously no native English speaker :D.
Emma Watson has been a part of my life since I can think. My siblings are total Harry Potter freaks, so I basically grew up with those movies. But I don't admire her because of her acting skills. I like her because she's founded heforshe. Heforshe has changed my life. I've been thankfully growing up in germany, and not in vietnam, the country my parents were living until they moved. Because in countries like vietnam, women aren't seen as equal to men. And it makes me sad that my feminine cousins have to stay in a country, where they don't have the same chances as me or there male relatives. And organisations like heforshe give me hope. I'm a convinced feminist. I want to know mote about the topic 'Feminism' and 'equality'. That's why I joined this book clup.

Charli Robinson | 1 comments Hello all!
Im Charli 25 from the UK but currently in Australia. I've joined this book club because I am a girl guide leader and in this role I want to empower the girls. I also want to read more feminist books so I'm better informed about the issue and what I can do to further the cause. :-) xx

Hello, Deepthy! That's so awesome that you've traveled! I haven't gone to many places outside of the United States yet, so I'm always curious to hear what others have observed.

Looking forward to your thoughts in this group in the coming months!

message 58: by Queen-Rey (new)

Queen-Rey | 4 comments My name is Ysa, I'm 17 years old from the US. I've been a huge fan of Harry Potter and Emma for years, and her recent work in equality and the feminist movement have been super inspirational to me as a young feminist. Reading has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, and the chance to get my hands on more literature that deals with the experiences of many women and feminism is extremely exciting to me. Equality and justice are two things I am very passionate about, and I'm so glad there's a group here where I can grow in these things by reading books recommended by Emma and others!

message 60: by Molly (new)

Molly | 1 comments Hello all!

My name is Molly, I am 23 years old from the greater San Francisco Bay Area of California in the United States.

I joined this book club for one the obvious, I love to read and two the even more obvious I love Emma Watson! Being a woman, especially in today's time I think many of us feel the pressures that have been dropped onto us since the dawn of time. Feminism is at a rise and to better understand not only ourselves but of the greater population around us I believe reading is a great way to spread the message of unity and love. The world is a harsh place, no matter how old you are, or gender, etc and I believe that this book club gives all of us an opportunity to connect to others as well as ourselves. Reading is by far the greatest invention made by man, without stories we would never be able to learn about the past or present. This enables us to create a better future for all mankind. So I suppose I hope I find even more inspiration and understanding within this world around us.

Remember that you are all beautiful people and no one can take that away from you!

Happy reading.

Aisha Birani | 1 comments HEY EVERYONE : )

My name is Aisha, and I am from Calgary, Alberta, Canada! I am joining this book club for so many reasons.
1. Emma watson has been a huge part of my life since I first started reading the Harry Potter books almost 13 years ago.
2. Reading is literally my life, and my bookshelf is currently so full I have books scattered across my room
3. I want to expand on the types of books I read and try to limit my ignorance on certain topics that are important to me
4. Feminism has become a huge part of my life especially after Emma's HeforShe speech!

PLUS Gloria Steinam will be coming to one of the universities in my city so what better way to be ready for that then to read her book?

message 62: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Hollen | 1 comments Hello, I'm Valerie. I'm 18 and from sunny Singapore. I've always been interested in the topic of feminism and gender equality, but hadn't really known how or where to start learning before this. I hope to gain new perspectives from all of you here! (:

message 63: by Mk (new)

Mk Her | 1 comments Hey, everyone!
My name is Mk, 17 years old and I'm from Madison, WI

I've been Emma's fan since the Harry Potter series and I admire her not only as a great actress but as a brave feminist. I joined this book club to support Emma and the feminists out there because I believe everyone deserves an equal treatment as a human. I'm longing for the day to destroy the barrier that's separating an individual from the other, and I thought this is a great step to take towards that goal.

Well, I'm not going to try to say something about the previous comment with all the new comments flooding in (Sorry).

I'm very interested in listening to other people's perspective because it develops my insights about several things! I'm looking forward to a great times!

Amy Kaeser | 1 comments Hi, I'm Amy. I'm 33 from the U.S. - California. I love to read and am currently in a grad program where my thesis will very much be about the influence of feminism on art and art history. When I'm not reading theory, I really enjoy a good fiction/fantasy/sci-fi story. I want really well developed characters with intelligent things to say and who more the narratives along. I'm with Valerie - looking for other good perspectives within this group!

Cecilia | 1 comments Hey! I'm Cecilia, I'm 16 and I'm from Ohio.

I love all of Emma's work for the UN and she's inspired me so much to be more outspoken on my views of feminism and equality. Also I think this is a great idea and it'll give me interesting books to read and hopefully good conversation to follow❤️

Nice to meet you all!!(:

message 74: by Hajin (new)

message 75: by Jason (new)

Jason My name is Jason; I'm 40, married, and I live in Wyoming. I have an MA in English Literature and work in radio advertising.

I joined the group as I consider myself a feminist and as I'm a staunch believer in the importance of book clubs. What we believe about what we read deepens and complicates when we share the experience with others. I'm not sure how active I'll be (I moderate two book clubs of my own and am a slow reader), but I hope to participate in the conversation when I can, to learn from all of you and share some of what I've learned over the years.

Emma Watson is someone for whom my admiration seems to just grow and grow.

Looking forward to the journey.

I have always been a huge Emma fan, and a even bigger feminist! This is something I am very passionate about, and I will soon be going to school with a major in respiratory therapy, and a minor in woman's studies. I'm hoping to learn enough information so that I can become a local advocate in my community. Happy reading everyone!!!

message 78: by Alexis (new)

Alexis Hudson | 1 comments My name is Lexy Hudson, from the US, and I'm 22 years old.

I joined this book club because it's time to change society's idea of feminism, where feminists are horrible and men hating, etc. and I believe that sitting here and reading books that not only empower women but also empower the idea of equality will not only help and shape ideas for the younger generation, but also may help change this idea that feminism is bad. To have this book club be owned and moderated by such an influential woman in today's world, I have so much hope of how many eyes this will open, and hopefully how much good change will come.

message 79: by Lucía (new)

Lucía Bengochea Paz Hey everybody!

My name is Lucía Bengochea Paz, I'm 20. I was born and raised in Uruguay.
I'm a huge fan of Emma Watson because of the Harry Potter world. However, her involvement in gender equality promotion is outstanding, and I can't help but be immensely happy that she is one of the faces of feminism.
This topic means a great deal to me, and I would be glad if there's anything I can do for it. This is why I also see reading books around the subject as a crucial step for me to take.
I hope we can work magic in here!

Love

I am new to Goodreads and I am looking forward to learning and sharing with likeminded individuals. I think Emma Watson is a very empowered woman, one who I have always admired. Looking forward to sharing this experience with her and all of you lovely people.

message 81: by MaryGrace (new)

MaryGrace Hello! My name is MaryGrace and I'll be turning 25 in March. I'm from California and currently reside in the westside of Los Angeles. I graduated from UCLA with a BA in Gender Studies and before taking a Women's Studies class at a community college, never had a word for the way I was trying to live my life and the decisions I was making, as I grew up in an immigrant and highly patriarchal household -- behold feminism! Super excited to join this book club because I'm a fan of the work Emma is doing with the UN -- confession: only started reading Harry Potter this year and watched the first three movies only a month ago! Hence why I want to supplement the fiction I've been reading with some non-fiction that will be exciting to discuss and help me grew and think critically.

Probs a way longer post than that needed to be, but in any case, super excited about this! :)

Zoe Bastone (zoe-bastone) | 4 comments Hello everyone!

My name is Zoe and I am from the United States. In the last year, I graduated with a BA in English Literature, with a specialty in British literature. I love analyzing literature and seeing how the thoughts of another can connect me with another time and another place.

The subject of gender equality has been something that I have also paid attention too. I think that it is extremely easy to look at a piece of literature that was written two hundred years ago and see the state of feminism--right now it isn't as easy. I hope that in following and engaging in this book club that I can engage such an important issue and develop a clear idea on where feminism stands today.

Finally, I truly believe that Emma Watson has the power and influence to make this a wonderful group. She has a wonderfully engaging voice. I look forward to reading her picks.

I am Julie, from Billings, Montana, USA. I am 53 years old and I am a Reading Interventionist in a low income school.

I have become quite passionate about equal rights for all in the past few years, as my country's political parties have become more and more polarized, and extremely conservative politicians have tried to return our society/country to a time when white men had all the power.

I have loved the Harry Potter books personally, and as a teacher, I have seen them transform my struggling students into avid readers. I LOVE that my favorite character in those books/movies is an even more awesome inspiration in real life! I look forward to reading what is suggested, and will be suggesting them to my own book group, which is all women.

On Faery Stories (onfaerystories) Hello everyone!
My name's also Jessica, I'm 20 years old and I'm from Québec, Canada (so many Canadians, it's insane! :P).

I've joined this book club because I want to know more about feminism and read more books written by women. I wasn't really interested in this subject before following Emma's projects, but I've been so inspired by everything she's done and the realities she put on the table that I just couldn't turn my eyes away anymore. I know talking about it will only be beneficial and I believe it'll change my perspective on life and make me grow as a person. I used to have preconceived ideas about what being a feminist meant and I'm now willing to put them behind and start anew. I obviously love reading and I can't wait to discover amazing books! :D

Thank you Emma for this gift! I'm so excited!
