Introduction

Im Joyce Anne, 27 years old, Philippines. Studied Psychology and was a Guidance Counselor for a couple and a half years.
Im a big Harry Potter/Hermione fan. So basically I joined this group because of Emma. But more than that i am a bookworm. :)
Also, I was once a speaker for Gender and Equality seminar workshop and from then on I became interested on gender equality and want to be able to fully understand feminism.
I am for equality.
I am glad to be apart of this group and hoping to gain new friends.
:)

It's a great opportunity that have you all in this discussion.
I am Iqbal 29 from Afghanistan. When I first listen to Emmm's speech in late 2014, she really impressed me. The reason I joint the group is to gather ideas from all over the world about the feminism.

my name is Rebekka, I'm 17 years old and I live in the Netherlands.
I love reading and I try to make time for it whenever possible. I love to be in a whole other world, to fall in love with characters, to feel their emotions. In most books the world is more ideal than the actual world we live in, so what I hope is that we can all make the world a little better by reading about a world where it's already better, and then take action to make this world a bit better as well. If that makes any sense.
Also, I absolutely love Emma for her acting and for her work at the UN.
I'm very excited about this :))

I'm not a mega fan of Emma, but I love her work on equality and acting. I think it's amazing that she's inspired so many people. So I would say I'm a fan, but just not a mega one.
I'm very excited to join this book club and I will start reading the book as soon as I can!

I'm very excited to join this book club and I will start reading the book as soon as I can!

I joined because of two reasons, the first being my love to read, and the second being I am a feminist. I love Emma's work for the UN, and hope to help change the world someday on such a positive way.

My name is Arista.
I am 18 years old. I am from India though I am currently studying in Portland, Oregon.
I am really excited for the journey we are about to take and the tales we will discover. These are stories that need to be told.

My name is Heather. I am 44 and I live in Denver (USA). I joined the book club because I have been "out of the loop" for too long and I feel that I am almost brain dead. :) My time taking Women's Studies courses while completing my Bachelors degree were some of the most enlightening times of my life and I am hoping to find that again. I think that Emma is a phenomenal woman and I look forward to seeing what her positive and far reaching influence can bring to this group. It will be amazing to see how people from all over the world interpret these books differently and to possibly have the authors here to comment is an opportunity that "common" people do not usually have.
Thanks Emma for thinking of this and for spreading your wonderfulness everywhere.
Arista...Congrats on being able to travel so far from home at such a young age. Maybe you have something in common with our first author, and that is amazing company to be in!

I'm Ella, I'm 18 and from sunny England! I joined this group because I am a book-loving feminist so when one of my by biggest role models started a feminist book club, I just couldn't say no.
I am currently in my final year of college where I am studying Combined English, Law and Psychology and I hope to go on to study English at The University of York.
Happy reading, honeys! xxx

I'm Christiane. I'm 24 years old and I'm from Austria.
I'm a teacher (german and history) and i study at university beside my job.
I always wanted to read more feminist books and this book club is now the chance to really do it.
The wishes of feminists are so mine and I want to learn more about it...also with this book club.

My name's Sara and I'm a 22 years old girl from Genoa, Italy.
I've never "officially" called myself a feminist, as I'm not as deeply awared and especially active as I'd like to be. And that's the main reason why I joined this group!
Besides, I'm a recently graduated speech and language therapist (and a huge reader) , so words and readings are my daily life.
Nice to meet you all!

I'm Mara. I'm 21 years old and I'm from Madrid, Spain.
I want to read more about feminism. When I watched Emma's speech I was so happy and proud of her and it means a lot for me. I think that this Club is a very good idea. I can't wait for more comments!!

My name is Kathryn, I am 22 and am from Manitoba, Canada.
I've decided to join this group simply because I love to read, and I believe that knowledge is power. Also, the topic of human rights is a very important issue for me. Whenever I watch the news I am usually saddened by the things that I see, and can't believe that my fellow human beings are treated the way that they are. I want to help people achieve the basic human rights and get the education that I take for granted every day.
Being educated on this subject is the first step, and I am really looking forward to learning more about how I can help, and to discuss with you all about these issues and the books we'll be reading!
This book club is such a great idea!!

I am Breanne and I am from Brooklyn, New York. Currently, I attend a City University where I have studied multitudes of subjects, and some I found most intriguing were Women in History and Feminist Thought/Theory. I joined this book club not only because of my belief in feminism, but to expand what I know to be feminism, and to broaden my ideas by seeing the thoughts shared by others.
Sara Lavaghi,
It is nice to meet you and hear you are from Italy, I have much family from there and I cannot wait to visit one day. It is nice to see someone who is willing to learn more about something because they are unsure about self proclaiming themselves a feminist. I hope throughout this you become as active in the feminist movement as you desired.

My name is Sarah, and I'm Irish and Canadian. I live in Calgary, Canada. I'm 41 years old and a mother to two girls aged 10 and 7.
I am an avid reader and I love strong women who make changes for the better in this world. I'm very excited to join this book club, and I'm sure the reading and comments will be inspirational. Two of my reading resolutions this year are to join a book club and to read more feminist literature, so this is perfect!
Thank you to Emma Watson for starting this book club. It is a wonderful idea.

I am Zsuzsi From Hungary, I turned 30 in 2015, finished my university education a couple of years ago and joining the job force made me realise a couple of things. One of these is that equal rights, pay, opportunity for women is critically important, so we women can feel respected, appreciated and have the economic means as well as the confidence to represent our own interests! This is why it is so important for me to get to know the history of women's struggle to reach equality, so I, we, women can build upon the achievements of the feminist movement and can create a modern-feminism.
I joined this book club in the hope that i will find a like-minded community and to get inspired and to get the confidence to become a feminist activist in my local community.
Thanks Emma to start this book club, its an excellent idea and looking forward to spend 2016 with inspiring books!

My name is Nina, I'm 28 and I'm a 2nd year medical student from Switzerland. I joined this group because I love reading and feminism and I admire Emma Watson!
Sadly my friends in Switzerland don't want to talk about feminism and are even reluctant to call themselves that. That's why I'm looking forward to some great discussions on here. A topic that is particularly close to my heart is intersectionality. There are a lot of different perspectives out there depending on one's race, culture, sexuality, body and experience and we can all learn a lot from each other :)

Is anyone here from Budapest, Hungary? If yes, we could meet up each month in person and discuss the books! Let me know if you are interested!

My name is Dana, I'm from rural Nebraska, U.S.A. I have always spoken out in support for equal rights but in the last 10 years, I have become much more active in advocating for them, specifically within the realm of domestic violence and sexual assault.
I have been searching online for new reads on intersectional feminism and was excited when I read Emma Watson created this group! I look forward to the book recommendations and thought-provoking discussions.

Plus I am a huge fan of Emma Watson, and I deeply admire the work she has done as gender equality ambassador at the UN

I decided to join for a few reasons. First, my friends have been telling me I need to read to read more to become a faster reader and to discover others thoughts on life and subjects that they write about. I already had a cart full of books ready to order on amazon.com, so I added "Life on the Road" to the list.
I also LOVE Emma and everything she is doing in this world, especially for women. I strive to help this world as passionately as she does while continuing to have such elegance and light. I was curious about the books and discussions she would spark in all of us, and I immediately knew I would enjoy this.
All in all, I thought that this was a great opportunity to read great books, share great ideas with great people, and become a faster reader in the process. I look forward to some great discussions!

My name is Lidiana and I am from Brazil. I am 29 years old and I am a literature and languages teacher. The topic of feminism, gender and sexuality is something I consider very interesting and that I like to research about. I have a Masters in Literary Theory, and I plan on taking my PhD in Cultural Studies, so I decided to join the group because I knew its audience is going to be massive, and that will help me to have a better understanding how the topics discussed here are being approached but different generations and cultures.
I plan to follow all the reading, however I am a bit worried regarding on how to get the books in time or if it is going to be affordable. Steinem's book was already on my TBR list, but I haven't bought it before because here in Brazil it is very expensive, and if I try to buy online in one of the cheaper websites such as Abe books or Amazon, it will arrive after the discussion deadline.
Please, feel free to friend me on Goodreads. I love having bookish friends with whom I can exchange, and book comments and recommendations.

I'm a Emma's fan and I saw her tweet about feminism and his organization and I was interested about equality so I follow his organization and I read an article about these book club and my curiosity made me inquire and I joined there becouse I do really love read, and it would be dandy find books about feminism and his history.
It would be wonderful if these web page were be trasleted to my mother language (spanish).

I joined the club for 2 reasons.
First I am a huge fan and admirer of Emma's both for her acting and for her involvement with the United Nations and Equality campaign.
2nd I am an English major and I love being exposed to new and exciting books as much as I can. I am looking forward to this new and rewarding experience in a book club.

Nice to meet you all and hope we have a great and productive discussion :)

My name is Rose. I joined this bookclub because a) Emma Watson and b) feminism: two of my favorite things! I hope to read all the books we look at and to meet new people.

I wanted to join this book club because I love reading. Reading helps me understand the world that we live in and also let me escape the world that I live in.
Feminism is something that I quite believe in but I want to learn more and understand it better so that one day when someone asks if I am a feminist and why I am, then I can reply with confidence why I chose this great decision. I am so excited to be here and read with everyone and to learn!

I love reading and joined with the hope of new input for my political work and general knowledge. I only started in the field of feminism due to my personal experiences. (I don't want to go into details. Please understand.)
Hello all! I'm Catherine, coming to the group 22 years from the lovely Coventry, UK. I hold a dual diplomas in international business and international relations and currently am working towards an internship with the UN to begin in the next year.
I've always had an immense love of reading to increase not only my imagination, but also my knowledge of the vast society that we are intertwined in. I could not hope for a better group base than one that truly holds my interest such as feminist discourses and readings while learning from men and women from all over the world.
I look forward to this new adventure with all of you wonderful people and if you have any book recommendations above the books we are reading for this group please let me know! XX

Julia wrote: "Hi! I am Julia, 33 years old and from Germany. I hold a diploma in Biology and work in clinical research. I am an active member of the German Social Democrats, focusing on health and queer politics..."
Hi Julia! To see how much you are involved in politics within your own community is actually quite amazing.
Everyone's journey is their own, and I respect and understand your choice on feminism being personal. I hope to hear more from you as the book club continues throughout the months. Hope you are having a wonderful January so far. - Catherine

My name is Samantha from New Orleans and I am 21. I am currently a senior English major at ULL.
I joined this book club because I have a vigorous passion for reading and writing and am continually looking for inspiration from friends, authors, and books.
As far as Feminism goes, I'd love to learn more about the subject as I only know the basics.
Since I was a child I have been inspired by Emma Watson with her work in the Harry Potter films and everything else she has accomplished since then. She is the perfect image of Feminism and independence and I admire her strength, intelligence and beauty.
I'm eager to read and discuss these books with yall. Read on, sisters

I joined this book club because I use to be an avid reader. Once I became a mother, I kind of put all of my interests to the side. One of the things that I miss the most is reading for leisure. I use to be able to finish a book within hours of sitting down with it. I do not have that luxury anymore, but I still love to read outside of studying. I am hoping that by joining this book club I will be able to reignite that love and be able to discover a new genre of books that interest me.

My name is Ciara (pronounced like Keira Knightley) ,I'm 16 years old and I live in England.
I never really know what to say on these sorts of things however I'll try my best. I love acting and it's my dream to be able to do it professionally. I think one of the reasons I love it is that I'm able to be so many different people at once, a lot like a reader can be! It started when I was in primary school because I was unbelievably shy and I felt that acting was a form of escape for me, because I often felt like I was trapped in a shy persons body and I wasn't allowed to leave. So, I found that if I acted, I was allowed to be whoever I wanted to be and nobody would judge me. Now, I'm a lot more confident and I enjoy speaking my mind, especially on political subjects. I occasionally write on a blog however the pressure from school has stopped it from happening.
I joined this book club because I'm really interested in feminism and equality, I've always loved following Emma and I'm looking forward to meeting people who think the same way!

1) I was so surprised & pleased to see Emma's work to revive feminism, and make it again a positive force once again. We still have such a long way to go towards equality.
2) I'm interested in young women's perspectives on feminism and current issues of equality.
3) I look forward to re-reading some classic works on feminism and finding new ones.

My name's Amábile, I'm 19, and I'm from Porto Alegre, Brazil!
I study Letters (translation) at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), and my interest in feminism has started at the university. As everyone here, Harry Potter series is one of my favorite sagas and showed me the incredible things that a book can do to someone.
I think that Hermione is one of the best female characters found in literature and the movies. Also, her importance is even bigger for being in a book which is designated to children and teenagers.
I'm looking forward to a constructive debate and increase my knowledge about feminism with you, girls!

My name is Maria although people call me Mary at times. I live in Germany but I am actually Greek! I decided to join this book club because I have finished with my BA in English Literature, I love reading books as well as participating in discussions about them! During my studies, I was introduced to the feminist view and found it remarkable and quite interesting. However, I was disappointed as we did not linger any longer on it. Nevertheless, I have been reading about feminism and equality is something rather important as well as something we should all be involved it!
Hey!
My name is Lorrayne, but you can call me Lola. I'm from Brazil and I'm 28 years old. I decided to join this book club because reading is my passion and also because I'm a proud feminist and I think this might be a good chance to get to know other women and other points of view about equality in general. I'm starting my graduation in Sociology this year.

I am joining this badass gang of literate people because I clearly consider myself a feminist but I also feel like I don't have enough knowledge on the subject. I hope this will give me the little kick that I need to read even more books about feminism (Simone de Beauvoir I'm coming for you!...).
Moreover, I believe such movements as feminism should be about gathering forces and exchanging ideas as much as possible. So I'm glad to be a part of this community, especially since it was created by the so very graceful and inspiring Ms. Emma Watson herself.
Much respect to you all, ladies and gentlemen!

I'm Erin, 32 years old, I live in Illinois, USA. Currently, I teach English and am working on finding a job as a school counselor. I love to read, and am working on becoming more of a well-read reader this year. Being a part of this group is a great opportunity for me to work on that as well as giving me an opportunity to read about and discuss something I'm passionate about.
Really looking forward to some great discussion!

I have always loved reading and am a strong standing feminist, so combining them is something that I would love to do.
Emma is one of my heros, because what she does is inspiring to people of any age, any culture and any gender, she has covered all the bases flawlessly. Her first UN speech was so eloquent and powerful, it made me feel empowered just for watching it and I haven't done anything as wonderful as her.
This is going to be a wonderful place full of wonderful people!
Thank you Emma xx

My name is Staci, I'm 24 years old and I'm from a small city in California.
I admire strength and passion for equality and justice. Seeing how devastating political topics have been as of late so close to home for me has left me heart broken and craving for change. Emma Watson is a huge inspiration, and I couldn't resist joining something I feel is going to have a huge positive influence!
Please don't be shy, I'm open to new friends and any conversation! Glad to be a part of this with you all.

My name is Calixta, I'm 16, French and I live in Bordeaux.
I am very interested in Women Rights and Gender Equality and I even did my TPE about that (french people here will know what I am talking about ;) )
I have always admired Emma, first as the character of Hermione Granger and then I found out about her fight for gender equality and she really became a model for me !
