Until we meet again!

My feminist journey is just beginning. I'm looking so forward to learning from the authors and from this community!
I grew up in a household that didn't acknowledge the differences between men and women. In school, I was oblivious to teachers and peers thinking I couldn't do things because of me: the woman, I thought it was because of me: the human.
In college, I took a strong "I'm not a feminist, things are the way they are because that is how it's always worked" stance. I felt like I could make the system work for me because I understood that I would always be "not enough" or second class.
I've come to understand that things won't change if I keep allowing myself and other women to be second class. Today I happily say I'm a feminist!
Looking so forward to continuing to learn. Learning about feminists, learning about their journeys and learning about what I can do, starting my journey.
Thanks Emma for putting this group together!

I'm 21 years old and I'm joining the group to learn more about feminism and have more arguments for my thoughts. I hope I can keep following the group, I loved the idea of it!

My name is Kathryn Neel. I now live in Daytona Beach, FL, but I have lived in Washington D.C., NYC, Boston and San Francisco. I am joining this book club because human rights and equality for women and girls are near and dear to my heart. I marched in a number of women's rights protests in DC when I was in college and I have worked for LGBT rights as well. I believe women will be the ones who save the world and feminist writers will lead the way.

My name is Sarah, I'm a physiotherapy-student from Austria.
I joined this bookclub because equality is very important to me. Unfortunatelly I haven't (yet) been able to read a lot because of my studies. Joining this bookclub about a topic that is important to me just seemed to be the right motivation to find some spare time to read more :)

I've never considered myself a feminist, I don't really use the word because I know how bad the connotations around it can be, but because I believe in equality, I'm so excited I was invited to join this book group!

I love reading and I always try to read everything I can about feminism. 2015 was an incredible year for the woman ( sorry, I forgot the plural) at least here where I live. My favorite writer is Jojo Moyes, but I like Gayle Forman and Dumas too.

My name is Liesl, I'm 28 and from Miami.
Like many of you I joined because I love to read and always looking for a new book. I enjoy seeing what people enjoy reading especially if it's different than what I normally reach for. The last few years I have been interested in knowing more about feminism to get a better understanding of it.

I've always had a love for reading, compounded with a special interest in feminism- because some of the ideas that I've seen in feminist literature really helped me through some of the struggles I was having with things like my gender identity.
I love the idea of a feminist book club because I think it will broaden my perspectives to read books that I haven't been previously exposed to and to discuss them with a wide range of people with different experiences and situations than mine.
I'm excited to get started! It's nice to meet you all :)

My name is Andreia, i'm 25 five years old and i'm portuguese.
I also love Emma Watson's work and ideals! I consider myself a feminist and i'm eager to discover and learn more about this fight! Beside, i love to read and i always wanted to be a part of a book club, just positive things!

I've been interested in joining a book club for some time now and this seemed the perfect opportunity. I'm looking forward to reading about, and discussing such a worthwhile topic.

As well as this, I want to learn about other issues, have conversations with people who know more about some things than I do and just have a good time!
Nice to meet you all, Erin x

Cheers!

So I'm Francesca and I'm 100% Italian, I absolutely love reading, it's like a source of joy and you can find shelter in it.
I can also say I'm a feminist although I don't know much about this "movement" (I don't know how to call it) so as soon as I saw this group I thought why not? And honestly I'm really excited at the idea of beginning this year in this group!!
I hope to learn a lot of new things and also to make new friends from all over the world!!
I can't wait to buy the book and start reading it!
Bye bye :)

I've loved reading ever since I was a kid, and Emma alongside Harry Potter as well. By starting high school, and using the internet more, I became more educated on social issues. Joining the debate team, even more so, and I feel strongly for feminism, promoting what it stands for and insisting that, yes, it is equality no matter the misconceptions. I recently read A room of one's own by Virginia Woolf which is considered by some the first feminist manifesto and when I heard about this group, I had to join.
So, here I am. I hope it turns into a great experience ;)

I'm so excited for this book club. I just ordered the first book and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I joined this because I love reading and I always feel as though I have not read enough feminist literature. Also, I would love to have more feminist friends.
That quote above me is amazing. "Sisters are doing it for themselves." Love it.

I'm excited to be a part of a large international feminist community and look forward to our interactions this year!

I'm a 42 year old single mother of an 18 year old daughter. I've never considered myself a feminist although I am a fervent supporter of equality as a biracial woman.
The reason I've joined this group is because I love reading, but more than that, my daughter considers herself a feminist and I'd like to understand more.

It's so great to meet everyone! And it's so lovely to see that so many people have decided to join this group!
I am Julia, 23, from Spain but living in the UK for a couple of years now.
I decided to join this book club, first of all, because I love to read and because I am a feminist. Also, because I am an English major and recently graduated from a Contemporary Arts Master, in which I realized how little feminist literature I had read and how much I liked it.
Looking forward to learning, discussing and meeting everyone! :)

I'm Patricia and I'm 16 years old.
Since I was little I like Emma because I think she's a very intelligent girl. She's a role model for me.
I joined this club because I love reading and I'm feminist and I think it's a great idea to have a place where we can talk about feminism and books and express our opinion. I'm so excited about this club!!

My name is Isabella, I am from Austria and I live in Vienna.
I am here to learn and find new information about all the topics on feminism with like-minded persons and I am very happy about it. Also I love reading but hadn't had so much time lately, so it's a perfect opportunity :)

I used to read a lot, but I lost this good habit in the last few years of high school. I want to start reading again like I used to! Also, I'm obviously a feminist, and a passionate one, so I thought I could combine business with pleasure joining this book club.
My favorite writer is Jeanette Winterson, I hope we'll be able to read some of her books.

My name is Luiza and I'm from Brazil. I'm 19 years old.
I'm a huge fan of Emma and I really love to read. I really want to read more feminist literature and this group will help me a lot with that.
I hope to learn more about Feminism and also meet people from different countries.
I'm looking forward to discussing with you and reading great books! :D

Elisa, I hit post and realized that I forgot to comment on the person before me, thank you for your kind words. I wonder if Emma realized what she started, all of us working together to change the world.

My name is Léa, I'm french and I'm 20 years old. As a lot of people here, I really appreciate Emma Watson as actress and for her work as "He for She" ambassador !
Feminist since few years now, I would like to read books on this subject, not just reports, to learn more about ! I hope I'll discover interesting books and people (and must be improve my english too) :)
Have a good reading year !

My name is Alyssa. I'm 23 years old and live in Ohio (USA). I'm sensing a theme of everyone's love for Emma Watson - both onscreen and off screen. I think the work that she doing to shape and change the feminist movement is incredible. and I'm very much looking forward to adding more reads about feminism to my reading list this year. I'm hoping that through this group I'll be able to not only learn more about feminism, but to assist everyone in propelling the feminist movement forward.
Looking forward to reading and discussing all of these books with you!

my name is Donna and I am from New York. Of course, I'm a huge fan of Emma Watson as well as books.
I must admit most of my life has been spent with my nose in a book, therefore I'm slightly I'll informed on current events.
I have been trying to expand my reading palate by reading all genres, mainly topics that piqued my interest.
feminist studies are on the top of the list though I didn't know where to start, and thought this would be the perfect place.
I look forward to learning/discussing with all of you!

I'm Kristiina and I'm from Finland. Reading is my favorite hobby but it's been sidelined by life in the past few years. Getting back to it, especially with feminism as a topic seems too good to be true. Can't wait to get started, in both reading and discussing. :)

The 2015 New Years Eve Attacks in #Cologne (#Köln)
Oh I guess they have to do more important things...Like starting a bookclub...I guess women getting raped and sexually assaulted doesn't count on the Feminist list of priorities, I mean unless they can blame it on White Men..Then they are all in. Feminist are such liars and cowards. If anyone wishes to Learn more about the Attack against women in Cologne here is a great video link. Please everyone spread the information that extremist progressives are afraid to talk about. Everyone please reject Feminist ideology and become Humanist.

I am Hillary, from Ohio in the U.S. I am currently a Literary and Textual Studies Master's student, and I hope to graduate in May, especially since I am applying to Ph.D programs in Fall 2016 for Rhetoric and Writing!
I am always reading for my classes, and while I do enjoy these texts, I decided it would be nice to read for pleasure as well. I've never been in a book club (but I always wanted to be!) even though one of my greatest pleasures is discussing wonderful texts. Also, since I will no longer have literature classes come May, I wanted to push myself to join and keep up with this book club. My schedule is hectic (as everyone's is), but it's important to do something you enjoy even when you feel like you don't have time. (Oh, and also, I think Emma is a true inspiration for people everywhere, so that is another reason why I joined.)
Part of my hectic schedule includes writing my master's thesis, which is about how trans* individuals who pass as cisgender and its complexities, and writing my Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies certificate capstone project about Parks and Recreation and women's sexuality in the TV show. But I look forward to learning and discussing with you all! :)

I'm not very old, but I always have been insterested about feminism, and now I can call myself a feminist. Emma Watson really inspire me and I couldn't wait to join this book club.
I believe in the power that everyone should have to choose whatever they want to their lives, and that's the main reason I'm part of this movement, and I hope to learn more about this with you and the books.

My name is Dora, and I’m an editor from Belgium, 28 years old. I’m so excited to join this book club, there’s such a good vibe. I’ve been wanting to read up on feminism and gender equality and I really look forward to explore the thoughts of strong writers and avid readers alike.
And thank you, Emma Watson, for inspiring this, you're an amazing person.

I am from Louisiana!
I love reading and I hope I can read 100 books this year. It is a goal of mine. I hope that this book club will help me accomplish some as well as give me some book suggestions

I'm Akhénaton, a 22 years old guy from Montpellier, in France.
I follow the HeforShe movement since his creation and I'm really amazed by everything done yet. And still sad when I see everything that we must still achieve. This Interessed of me for the feminism is really new and only 2 or 3 years old, and I still looking for more and more informations to have a better understanding of it and to help after.
It's natural I'm interested in this book club, since it's entirely dedicated to feminism book. And I can't wait to read more about it !
Thx a lot for everything done so far and I'm hoping that we will get along :)

I'm looking forward to discussing these books with everyone.

My mother instilled in me the belief that I could accomplish anything I decided to do, as long as I was willing to work for it, and that my gender, size, age, nor current circumstances were reasons or excuses for not working toward my goals. She was an excellent example; she raised two daughters, became the first woman manager of a convenience store chain in the nation, and learned to drive at the age of 34. She was an amazing role model.
I am the first person in my very large extended family to go to college. I earned my masters and doctorate while raising my own children. I join in honor of her, myself, my three daughters, my two sons, and my six granddaughters and five grandsons. Equality is not a buzz word in our family. It is a way of life.

i joined this club because i'm a huge fan of Emma and her work.
I love to read. I consider myself feminist, so i want to learn more about it. i'm happy to be here, this is big and amaizing. Thanks to Emma forputting us together. x

I'm Sofia, 15, and I am from Brazil.
I joined this bookclub because I've always loved Emma, since the Harry Potter movies, until her speeches and feminist movements.
And, of course, I love reading so bad. I'd like to see your recommendations and stuff.

I'd love to get to know everyone. Intersectionality is a very important concept, especially when we're talking about helping young people develop. Everyone's growth and experiences don't happen in a vacuum!
I'm also a bit of a nerd, and enjoy reading through a variety of genres.
In short, hello! Glad to meet everyone!

Hi, my name is Nenia. I'm 26-years-old. I'm a self-published author, but also work some other jobs, too. :) I like board games, good food, going for walks, and chess.
I joined this group because I'm really interested in feminism. My to-read list on this subject is extensive. I was also really interested in connecting with progressive, like-minded women, and maybe finding inspiration and new friends, to boot!

I've been an avid reader all my life (started with Harry Potter) and love to be constantly learning and broadening my horizons.
After 18 months at uni I decided that it wasn't for me but have been struggling since to find an academic use for my brain. Discussing a book and ideas and beliefs and the changes that are necessary and how we can all work together to get there seems perfect for me right now.
I'm not sure yet if I'd call myself a feminist. Certainly I believe in equality and am hoping to learn more through this book club, to understand the points of view of others and maybe become more certain of my own.

My name is Sidalia do Rego, 27 years old, from Timor Leste. For those who doesn't know where it is, It's 13 years old country in Southeast Asian. It's very new, small and beautiful country.
Anyway, I want to join this group because gender equality is a big issue in my country.
From my experience working as a coordinator for women's health and social worker, here's what i can conclude about women in my country "women in Timor know their duties and their responsibility, but they don't their right."
I am so looking forward to learn from you all.
Pleasure to meet you all.

I'm Nicole, I'm 26, and I'm from Iowa (US) but moving to Michigan in March.
I joined this group because it's nigh impossible to find fellow feminists in a small, red neck town and I desperately need some feminist company! I've been a Harry Potter fan since I was 9 which made this particular group so appealing!
