Maryanne | 246 comments You love Mal? @WinterRose
I like him in the first book the best...then he started to slip.

message 52: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments Lol nooo. I'm not a big fan of his.

message 53: by Maryanne (new)

Maryanne | 246 comments Haha, I hear you sister. :D

message 54: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneynicolee) | 48 comments @winter rose: yes if anything Kit could be one of the Grisha at the little palace, definitely attractive enough to be grisha !(;

message 55: by Cari (last edited Apr 24, 2014 09:24PM) (new)

Cari I know they're working on it. The part that worries me the most about adapting a book for a movie is the casting.

Somehow, once the characters have an actual face I can't shake it off even when I don't like the casting and that has ruined books for me.

(That's why I avoid reading books with actual people on the covers too. It's a pet peeve of mine.)

But I don't know... it could be interesting.

message 56: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments It really needs the right screenwriter and director. That's crucial. Casting is important too obviously, but I've seen amazing casts produce crappy movies due to the crappy script.

message 57: by Hiba (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments WinterRose, you put a lot of thought into it!
Oh my, how did I not think of Emilia Clarke? She's beautiful, but isn't she kind of old to be playing Alina?

Anyways, Kit Harrington omg. He is my soul mate!!! I would love for him to be in the movies!!

message 58: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments It's strange because age doesn't always translate to film. Like half of the Teen Wolf cast who play high school students are 25-30 years old. :P But when you put them in the right setting and costume design, it works. I think Rachel McAdams was 25 when she played in Mean Girls for example.

message 59: by WinterRose (last edited Apr 24, 2014 09:42PM) (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments I forgot a Baghra casting. Wait for it..

Marion Cotillard. :) Or Helena Bonham Carter, or Cate Blanchett. Can't go wrong with any of them.

message 60: by Hiba (last edited Apr 24, 2014 09:41PM) (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments That is true. It all depends on perception!
Isn't Ian Somerhalder 35 and he plays a high school boy on Vampire Academy?

How old is Baghra by the way? I always pictured her as an older woman.

message 61: by WinterRose (last edited Apr 24, 2014 09:46PM) (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments I always did too. I actually originally imagined Judi Dench the first time I read it. But Leigh said she's younger and I went back and noticed Baghra has dark hair, no grey. :P I assume she looks 30-40 but with sharp features.

I think it's the way she talks, it reminds us of an older woman. And she IS older, which is funny; she just doesn't look it. :P

message 62: by Hiba (last edited Apr 24, 2014 09:47PM) (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments Oh my, I'm rereading the first book and there is so much that I forgot that happened!!!

Anyways, that's insightful to know!!! As I meet each character again I'm going to compile my dream cast!

Anyways, I'm off to bed!

Let the conversations commence!!!

Cari WinterRose wrote: "It's strange because age doesn't always translate to film. Like half of the Teen Wolf cast who play high school students are 25-30 years old. :P But when you put them in the right setting and costu..."

Yes, in general they cast older actors to play teens and I'm really used to that. If they start to cast actual teens they'll look too young! ;)

I always pictured Bahgra like Mother Gothel in Tangled. She's described as having the body of a dancer and black, I think curly, hair. XD
Then, in S&S, I pictured her like an old woman.

Helena Bonham Carter would be a great Bahgra... but perhaps too intense? I don't know. Bahgra is instense after all.

You're right about the screenwriter and director being really important too. I hope they get right the "tsarpunk" feel of Ravka.

message 64: by Georjandavis (new)

Georjandavis | 12 comments These are great choices, agree with Sean O'Pry for the Darling & Holland Roden for sure!

And I think someone similar to Rooney Mara would be a good choice for Alina. Maybe even a dark haired Dakota Fanning? It will be interesting to see who they choose... I'll be at the midnight showing for sure :-D

message 65: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneynicolee) | 48 comments Midnight showing for this is a MUST !(:

message 66: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments @ Cari. Helena would indeed be intense, but you're right Baghra is pretty intense, haha. She's such a great actress.

Kaya Scodelario is another good option for Alina.

Vera the Escutcheon of Wolves (escutcheonofwolves) If they do a movie I would rather they put it into a series show so they can get all the detail in without having to cut ANYTHING out. Movies have limits but unless you want it like Lord of the Rings then I suggest it be into a show series like A Game of Thrones.

message 68: by Hiba (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments That is true.

I don't think I could wait a whole week until the next episode!!!
But that is a smart idea!!!

Game of Thrones is a wonderful show!

I'll also be at the midnight premiere!!

Ha, I thought that I'm the only person who thinks that Sebastian Stan would be a good choice for The Darkling role. Glad I'm not alone! I haven't seen Winter Soldier yet, but I saw him in "Once Upon a Time" where he plays The Mad Hatter. He can play a character who is both charming and terrifying, cunning and a little bit insane, but also very focused on his goal. He would be perfect as the Darkling!

message 70: by Cassidy (new)

Cassidy (cassidyleora) I will for sure go to see it at Midnight!
Also--am I the only one that pictured Benedict Cumberbatch as the Darkling?
This only went on for, like, the very first book, but for some reason that's the only person who jumped into my head! Especially the voice.
I don't know.

message 71: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments @ Anna. Not alone! Omg he's amazing in the Winter Soldier without even talking much. I think that's what was so intimidating about him. He's a silent badass. And gorgeous. He rocks the long hair and got 100x hotter.

message 72: by Hiba (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments @WinterRose and Anna: I just googled Sebastian Stand and im swooning right now. I could totally picture The Darkling as him.
Oh my god!!!! Can he please send a searing glance towards me?!

message 73: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments Hehe, he's definitely swoonworthy. <3 I too would gladly take the searing glance. (Or be shoved against the door in a heated make out session you know, whatever.)

message 74: by Cari (last edited Apr 25, 2014 09:28PM) (new)

Cari I'd like Charlie Hunnam as Mal and Sean O'Pry as the Darkling <33
I dunno if Sean can act though, and I'd love to see someone who's as magnetic and haunting as Michael Fassbender for the Darkling, but he'd have to be a lot younger, unfortunately >.<

I don't know about Nikolai though.

message 75: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments Yeah that's the issue with Sean. No idea if he can act. Tom Hiddleston also has that magnetic personality, but again too old. Actually Dylan O'Brien from Teen Wolf has outstanding acting chops and could be an amazing Darkling. He recently played a VERY dark side to his usually funny character. He nailed it though.

Here's a clip actually that features him and Holland Roden (who is the fan favorite for Genya)

message 76: by WinterRose (last edited Apr 25, 2014 09:57PM) (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments There's also Daniel Sharman, who says he wants to play a baddie. :) He's gorgeous and charming and stunning too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xJOUO...

"I've never done any evil." lmao

He's probably my number one pick at the moment for the Darkling. If Sean can act, he's on the list too. I also like Sebastian Stan.

message 77: by Hiba (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments Sean O'Pry and Seb Stan are on the top! As you guys mentioned before, he's just a model, and we don't know if he can actually act!!!

Anyways, I think Sam Claflin would be perf as Mal!
Charlie Hunnam is kind of too bad ass looking. I imagined Mal as gorgeous and pretty and Hunnam is like the opposite.

O Nikolai, hmmm...

message 78: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments I love Hunnam but he's 34 so a bit too old.

Armie Hammer is my Nikolai. He's very princely. lol

message 79: by Hiba (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments Yes he is. I remember him from Mirror Mirror!

message 80: by Isabelle (new)

Isabelle (izzybelle_17) | 14 comments Armie Hammer will be a good Nikolai. I agree with WinterRose. Sean O'Pry to me is the best choice for the Darkling.

message 81: by Isabelle (new)

Isabelle (izzybelle_17) | 14 comments Adelaide Kane would make a good Alina. She is on the TV show Reign.

message 82: by Hiba (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments Adelaide is a good choice. But idk I've always pictured Rooney Mara as Alina.

All my choices are much too old... Henry Cavill as the Darkling!! XD He can get gray contacts and he's got the most alluring stare of all. Alina and everyone in the set would melt instantly.

I actually googled Dylan O'Brien and Daniel Sharman and I approve as well.

Mirou | 87 comments Alicia wrote: "Lol I agree with Courtney, I imagined Tom Hiddleston as The Darkling XD
I thought he had grayish eyes though 0-0"

Ian Somerhalder is definitely the best choice for the Darkling .

Too bad that he is a little older for a guy who looks like 19 years old. Anyway, I heard that David Heyman, Harry POtter producer, will produce Shadow and Bone, along with Jeffrey Clifford (Up in the Air). It’s not clear yet who would direct the project, or adapt the screenplay but I think it will be a movie someday, maybe in two, three years ?

message 85: by Hiba (new)

Hiba (hibashakes) | 30 comments Is Leigh going to help write the screenplay?

I know that John Greene is writing the screenplay for his upcoming book adaptation movie, Paper Towns.

message 86: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneynicolee) | 48 comments Ooo Somerhalder is another good pick ! But yeah possibly a little too but I always pictured The Darkling as young 20-22ish years old but it says 19?? Haha whoops my bad

message 87: by Anna (last edited Apr 26, 2014 11:09AM) (new)

Anna | 22 comments Courtney wrote: "Ooo Somerhalder is another good pick ! But yeah possibly a little too but I always pictured The Darkling as young 20-22ish years old but it says 19?? Haha whoops my bad"

The only thing that we know about how old The Darkling looks, is that he looks few years older than Alina (and Alina is 17), so probably he looks like someone in his early twenties. You were not wrong ;) I always pictured him as someone who is 21-23 years old.

message 88: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneynicolee) | 48 comments Ok that's what I thought, thanks for reassuring me !(: haha

message 89: by Maddi (new)

Maddi | 57 comments Terry Crews as Mal (It's not like they will choose an actor that looks anything like the character, if past YA book to movie adaptations are any indication)

message 90: by Diana (new)

Diana | 9 comments I would be interested in seeing a movie rendition done. I think there is the potential for some amazing special effects like the movie "Avatar."

However, I know that the best actor around will not be able to capture the essence of The Darkling. Also, I don't think the movie will be as magical as the book. Most of the book is centred around the thoughts & feelings of Alina...those cannot be captured or conveyed on the big screen.

message 91: by gonkeyhong (new)

gonkeyhong @Maddie
OLD SPICE IS SO POWERFUL IT CAN LAST FOR 24 HOURS!!! Man, I loved those commercials. They always made me snort and choke on whatever I'm eating. (I'm always eating. And no, I am NOT fat. Okay, maybe a little.)

message 92: by WinterRose (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments Omg the old spice mom commercials are the best thing I have ever seen. Idk how old spice got brought up but they are hilarious.

I actually googled Dylan O'Brien and Daniel Sharman and I approve as well.

They are awesome actors. Dylan is starring in The Mazerunner (another YA series) and Daniel has read the audio book for one of Cassandra Clare's books, so both are familiar with the genre. I think Daniel is probably the best choice since he's got the right look, has interest in being a "villain," and he's a great actor. He's also VERY charming. :)

message 93: by Sofia (new)

Sofia | 7 comments For the Darkling BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH is like amazing. But he looks a little too old. Like even in Sherlock. But i looked up Sean O'Pry a d Daniel Sharman and i TOTALLY agree.
I also agree with making it into a show cuz there r so many small details that cant be missed. AT ALL.

I don't think that Benedict would be a good one, he is too...(I don't know what I'm trying to say... LOL)

Daniel Sherman should be Mal, actually.

Now, Sean O'Pry should definitely be Darkling he is hoot like the Darkling.

message 95: by WinterRose (last edited Apr 27, 2014 06:52PM) (new)

WinterRose | 843 comments I love the idea of a show if they will give it a big budget. Shows (especially with fantasy elements) can come across cheesy and cheap if they aren't given a big budget. Game of Thrones has a HUGE budget, which is why it looks so legit.

So Idk..really the plot isn't too packed to the point where it's action, action, action. I think a movie would work well.

message 96: by Maryanne (new)

Maryanne | 246 comments I think so too. I wonder who would Zoe be....???

message 97: by Sofia (new)

Sofia | 7 comments Yeah i mean i think BC is too old...
And oh hahahaha whoopsies
EXACTLY. we should start some petition on how they should cast him, but actually i dont know if he would have any acting skills because hes a model sooo......?

HE can, because the Darkling is HOOOOT! You would fall on your own two legs because of his hotness.

message 99: by gonkeyhong (new)

The old spice came up because one of the comments said that Terry Crews should be Mal. Search Old Spice Terry Crews commercials on Youtube. I will say nothing more.
