I liked the Dresden Files & would also love to see Anita Blake or Merry Gentry made into a show, so long as they keep most of the kinky sex stuff out of it & stick to the action.

I thought it was awful because it was SO different from the books.
I've had many years of practice keeping books separate from TV or the movies. It doesn't always work for me, but for Sookie/True Blood & the Dresden Files, it's been OK. I guess I read & watched them at close to the same time & don't really have anything invested in them.I thought the Lord of the Rings was amazingly well done, but I had too many years of reading & re-reading them to be terribly impressed by the movie versions. They were good, but will never be my favorite movies. Ditto with the first couple of Harry Potter movies. The last couple that have that horrible Dumbledore (I hear the guy never read the books - no wonder he sucks.) really disappointed me.
It's kind of like remakes of old shows I loved; Bewitched & such. I think I get images in my head, so putting it on the screen or redoing it just isn't possible to do well for me. If the books didn't really wow me, then a well done movie is good. If they did, the best they'll ever be able to do is OK.
Does that make any sense?
I makes a lot of sense, Jim. I feel the same way.I would LOVE to see Karen Moning's Fever series made into movies! Don't know if it would be possible to do it well or not. Hmmm.
I'm not a big fan of movies from books, I like the way books create the scenes in my mind, with movies they cut and change things and for me it is never for the better.
I'd like to see The Mortal Instruments, The Hunger Games, The Host, Shiver, The Book Thief and I heard they're making the movie adaptation of Perks of Being A Wallflower, which I'm currently reading. I'd like to see those. I agree that most movies might not be as great as the book but sometimes they're worth watching.
I'd love to see Richard Laymon's Savage made into a movie and I am really looking forward to Dean Lorey's Nightmare Academy being made into a film.
Jo wrote: "I didn't know that about Perks of Being a Wallflower. I hope they don't ruin it!"yep, it's on imdb and I think it's going to be released next year. I also hope that they won't ruin it. they'll have to find the perfect Charlie, though!
I have always wanted to see a definitive film of "The Hound of the Baskervilles". It has been done a few times, but always on the cheap. I think it would be a perfect project for someone like M Night Shyamalan (sp) who gravitates toward themes that incorporate the supernatural with mystery and drama, and who has a good feel for atmosphere.
I am looking forward to the release of the third book next month. The Nightmare Academy books are so awesome. I read them first and then my son and I read them together. They are a blast and Dean Lorey's website is so awesome looking too. As for the perfect Charlie, that is a tough one and I hope they find some one good for it. I'm going with Hal Holbrook as the Director of the Academy.
One I'd like to see is actually being made into a movie. Afraid by Jack Kilborn. We'll see how they handle it. But I don't have hope since the last word was that the studio was interested in making a franchise with it.

They would translate well to film, like HP.
