I found a brand new copy of Underworld at a thrift store last month for a dollar. I'm more interested in White Noise, but if you guys start an Underworld group then I'll join in!

Okay, there have been a couple of suggestions for autumn (perhaps September or October) Buddy Reads tossed about so I thought I would log them in here to see what kind of interest they generate.1) The Magic Mountain for a Thomas Mann reading
2) The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings for a Tolkien reading
Hope we get some more takers - they should be lots of fun!!! ;-)
Bat-Cat we also currently have:War and Peace in Sept/Oct
Dr. Zhivago in Nov/Dec
No reason why people can't participate in both groups ;)
Likewise, I would join a group read of The Magic Mountain.

I know Brina - yikes! - it may be a very busy end of the year for some people. ;-) These Buddy Read ideas have been tossed about in other threads and I just wanted to get them listed in this thread so that everyone can know about them and comment if interested. I'm definitely in for War & Peace but the others are kind of up in the air.
Bat-Cat knows I'm up for the Tolkien reads, but figured I'd mention it again here, too. :) I'm also currently reading War & Peace and expect to finish that this month or early July, but I'll definitely participate in the fall discussion of that, too.
These buddy reads are helping me shape my reading schedule for the rest of the year. Even if the books I'd like don't win for the group reads, I can still read them. After Gone With the Wind, I'll still have 3 long books in these buddy reads. Maybe I can squeeze in one more.

Definitely in for a Tolkien reading, Bat-Cat!
You guys are killing me with the War & Peace. I really want to read it, but there is no way in the world I'm getting to it in 2016.

If everything is going well for all the challenges and such that I have committed to, I will join in :)
Though I'm sure it would fill spots in a couple of things if I plan it right!

If Dr. Zhivago doesn't win for July, I'll participate in the Nov/Dec .
Are we still going to do Life on the Mississippi in July as a Buddy read Brina if it doesn't win?

I would love to participate in The Magic Mountain, but I'm hoping it can be August or October. September is bad for me.
Bat-Cat, I'll throw in with you on the LOTR read this fall...if The Magic Mountain buddy read doesn't come together over the summer.
Sue I will be ready to read Life on the Mississppi as soon as I finish Gone With the Wind. I am 90/959 done and will order from the library when I get halfway done.
Here is a summary of what we discussed today. Can anyone let me know if this sounds right?Life on the Mississippi- July/ August
War and Peace- September/October
Lord of the Rings- September/October/November
The Magic Mountain- October/November
Dr. Zhivago- November/ December
Thanks Steve. I'm not participating in that one and I was unsure of the length. I will edit the post .

Looks like a fairly accurate synopsis, Brina.

And Group Reads too!
And Group Reads too!
Kathy, the group reads the next few months are what my kids say "not my taste". Between the buddy reads, nonfiction pulitzers, and guilty pleasure mysteries, I have my reading mapped out for the rest of the year :)

We seem to have 4 interested already - is this enough to get it Scheduled for August?
I know, Kathy and Brina, there's a lot of reading stuff happening between now and the end of the year. I can only hope to find the time to get at least a fraction of them read - Buddy and Group Reads. My reading schedule for the year is just about filled up already. ;-)

That so happens to me also. I do not think I will ever catch up on all of the Group read, as you said, "Some are just not my taste." I haven't voted for a poll winner in a while it seems like -- but sometimes I am pleasantly surprised too.
Gotta love the chance for a buddy read!

All you need is 2 for a buddy read.

Filled indeed, but then I seem to change my mind at the last minute & read something else entirely. :)

I must say I would even thought about Gone With the Wind or War and Peace if it weren't for this group so I am so glad I have these buddy reads to keep me motivated.

Glad to know we're all in the same boat.
So many books, so little time!
And since it looks like it won't win for old school read for August, I have to figure out when I'm going to squeeze The Divine Comedy in as well. Its one of the books I picked for my challenge so I have to get it done this year.
Really tempted to join you for War&Peace and LOTR. First, I need to find some space for Gone with the Wind :0)
I think I might be interested in LOTR too :)
Also, there are a few of us hoping to read The Moonstone October. Feel free to join in!

Okay all of you busy buddy readers. I've updated the schedule list to include these - Life on the Mississippi- July/ August
War and Peace- September/October
Lord of the Rings- September/October/November
The Magic Mountain- October/November
Dr. Zhivago- November/ December
Plus I've added Underworld for August and The Moonstone for October.
I'll include links to all discussion threads once they're set up.
Let me know if anything changes and I'll try to keep everything up to date!
Also, I may as well mention now. If The Odyssey doesn't win the August Old School poll (currently 2nd place with 31 votes, behind The Professor with 36 votes) I plan on reading it anyway. So if anyone wants to join me in August...I'll wait for poll results before setting anything up though.
Pink - Thanks for your efforts and for including Underworld - looks like I'm committed now! (gulp!)I will also join in with The Magic Mountain - I've already bought it, and it's part of my 2016 Personal Challenge, so that's highly convenient!
Haha, no commitment needed, you can back out whenever you want! I'm glad that The Magic Mountain fits in with your other plans too :)

Thanks Pink! You're awesome :)

I'm also planning on reading my nomination for the new school read, even though it's definitely not going to win (only has 5 votes, last I checked). So anyone that wants to read and discuss The Beach, I'm in. :)

Me too, Sarah. Divine Comedy is on my Bingo Challenge so... when to put it in? I could always change it to another book but then I would have to fit that one in too. I guess that is why it is called a challenge. ;-)
