i want to follow your comments so let me know where you plan to post. I have already read this book but I still love talking about it.
Great that you´ll join in Kimberley and Linda! There´s a link to a list of existing threads in post #2006, so we plan to use these.

A buddy read may be just the thing for me to stop putting it off!! Plus reading it together over time will help me pace it out better with other books. I took a peek at the threads, and it looks like they're set up perfectly for what you were thinking.
I have been reading War and Peace since January, and am at 35%. I could use the motivation of a buddy read. May I join? Bonus, I speak Russian and would be glad to clarify (or at least ask my mom) any questions that come up.
Awesome so many people are joining! It will be so fun. I’ve been slowly reading since January too, Milena, and I’m about 45% done. I planned on it taking all year. It’s my “slow” read. 😄
Piyangie wrote: "I like to join in too. It's in my TBR for the year, and July is about a good time to start. :)"Excellent! This will be great to have so many people reading together.
Natalie wrote: "Awesome so many people are joining! It will be so fun. I’ve been slowly reading since January too, Milena, and I’m about 45% done. I planned on it taking all year. It’s my “slow” read. 😄"
Glad I am not the only one.
I'd also like to join, I've been looking for a buddy read and War and Peace just keeps popping up everywhere I go.
Anyone want to read Kristin Lavransdatter with me? It can be in July or we can wait for later in the year.
Just a reminder that A View of the Harbour is scheduled for July. I set up the thread (thank you Diane for reminding me I had not done that!) Hope to see you all there!
Matt wrote: "When I saw Elizabeth Taylor, I thought the famous actress had written a book. 😁"Oh, Matt -- thank you for clearing that up for me!! I thought that too! I never even looked to see anything about the author, but I had never heard of the actress writing any books! ;)

I'm so glad to see we have a growing group of people ready to tackle W+P together! I've been doing some preliminary context reading about the time period. There's a great thread already started on background stuff if anyone is interested. 😊
BACKGROUND THREAD
Ashley wrote: "Anyone want to read Kristin Lavransdatter with me? It can be in July or we can wait for later in the year."Any takers on this yet? I've been meaning to get to this one for a while, so I'd be happy to join in. Later in the year would be better for me, but if July is the target, I'll make it happen!
I'm planning on reading Kristin Lavransdatter, but will only be able to start in October. Would love a buddy read if that works for anyone.

Ashley, Peter, Carolien- yay, I have owned and wanted to read Kristin Lavransdatter for a few years now. Unfortunately this seems to be my year of doorstoppers and non-reading interruptions (the nerve!) …I am in the middle of Lonesome Dove right now and cannot read another huge book in July. If any of you read it September or after, and would like a buddy, please check with me…..thx!
Hi, W&P readers, I had wanted to join buddy read in July but I had expected to be done with Lonesome Dove. Instead I am slowly making my way through it because of summer’s fun interruptions, and I am not good at reading 2 books at once. I would try it but they both have sooooo many characters, I am afraid they are not the 2 to read together. I am still meeting new people in LD! It is such a fun book and deserves to be read at a quicker pace than I am giving it.
I’d also love to join Kristin Lavransdatter if it’s in October. I’m a bit over committed until then!
Pamela wrote: "I’d also love to join Kristin Lavransdatter if it’s in October. I’m a bit over committed until then!"October would be perfect for me. Ashley, does that work for you?
Okay--question. I was about to nominate Travels with Charley: In Search of America for Sept New School. Some of us had talked about a buddy read earlier in the year. But then I remembered we talked about nominating The Wings of the Dove in September, to continue reading Henry James after our The Aspern Papers buddy read in August.
Does anyone interested in either of these have suggestions? Is September still good for Wings? Anyone for Charley? Best time for that?
Thanks!
I have The Wings of the Dove penciled in for September, Kathleen. Not sure if that was a firm date for us, and I am willing to postpone if needed.
Travels with Charley: In Search of America is the kind of book that reads easily and went quickly for me, which isn't going to be the case with Henry James!

Very true, I'm sure! I like the idea of starting Wings in September, because I think it may take more than a month, for me anyway. We'll see if anyone else has opinions.
I've already read Travels with Charley (Loved it!). But I'm up for The Aspern Papers in August, and can probably do The Wings of the Dove in September. I really need to read that one, finally.
I am behind on the schedule for buddy reads. If you have a buddy read scheduled could you please go to the Buddy Read Schedule and request that I put a link in for the read?
Thanks so much.
Thanks so much.
Thanks everybody! I'll wait til tomorrow morning to be sure, then I'll put on the Buddy Read Schedule thread requests for Wings for September, and make sure Aspern Papers is on for August.Cynda, I think everyone else I remember who was going to read this has finished, so maybe you and I can read the second half of August? Would be nice to get it in before the summer is over. Should be fun!

I am in for Wings in September and may join The Aspern Papers read depending on how busy I am. The Booker longist comes out the end of July and I expect to be occupied with that. Should we nominate Wings for a club read in September? It probably wouldn't win, but might draw the attention of other new readers to the buddy read.
It may be too late to change but I wouldn't mind moving Wings to October and we could try and nominate it for the 4th quarter long read too. I still have it on my list for September and plan to read it slow either way. I agree with Sam that if we read Wings in Sept we should nominate it also. I've also read Travels with Charley and loved it. I agree with Sara that it goes pretty quickly.
Thank you, Sue! I think I had a vague memory of you mentioning that before. That works for me, so maybe we'll see if the others chime in. Either way, I'll be reading it slow too!So which works better for everyone October or September?

I will be also reading slow, but September or October is good with me.
Sara and Terris, do you have any thoughts about changing The Wings of the Dove to October? Would that work for you?
It would be fine for me, Kathleen. In fact, it might be useful for me, since I am really over-extended at the moment and it would give me some catch-up time.
Sam, would that work for you?

Beginning September 15th, a group of us will be reading Enemy Women. Everyone, of course, is welcomed!

Thanks, Sara! I think Sam already said October would be okay, so just hoping to hear from Terris.

Hello! I’m trying to find a buddy read for Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. Let me know if you would like to read this with me!! :)

We have threads already set up to read this. Let me know when you decide to read.

I'm curious now what language you're reading it in- the Russian?

My apologies, I did not see this. October is fine. James', The Bostonians has been running neck and neck in the poll for September. If it does not win, I will definitely nominare Wings for October.

Thanks, Sam! We're on the schedule for October for Wings, and if you want to make it a whole season of Henry James, join us for the short The Aspern Papers in August. :-)

I think the use of the threads in the way you propose makes sense, Michaela. And, I like your plan of one volume a month.
