Säcken and Syllabus

Säcken, like "The 9th Technique", had me yelling "don't do it"! I mean, really, how could anybody imagine that sacrificing to some kind of ancient horror, would appease it? Did I say, I really don't get horror?

Syllabus, otoh, was fun. I'm not sure I really got it, and the three "weeks" are completely disjoint (but that's part of the fun), but I really want to be able to discuss "Benches: what will they be originally", and take the side of "We will not rest until global suffering has been eradicated!" (he's not content to eliminate poverty, or malaria, or tainted water, or polio—Miéville says suffering!), and I'm seriously afraid he's right that we're commoditizing not Health-care but sickness.
