Gremlin | 966 comments Folks should be updated, now - but let me know if I missed anything!

message 255: by Gremlin (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments Also, a reminder to any folks hoping to get a February title - you need to have started your Feb release by the end of today! (Thank goodness it's a leap year!).

I was going to ask about this, because I started Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2) by Victoria Aveyard but I can't find my kindle, so I haven't finished it yet. By the way, a misplaced kindle is nearly a tragedy!

If you can't find it, at least you will still have access to your books through your account.

Diane | 1234 comments Casey wrote: "Anyone having luck with books with the word "New" in the title? I've only found a couple and I'm either not interested or already read them"

I am going to read New England Witch Chronicles (New England Witch Chronicles, #1) by Chelsea Luna I have had it on kindle forever so it will be perfect for me

message 259: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished #9, Dead Is the New Black (Dead Is, #1) by Marlene Perez - New in the title.

It was okay. I was going to read something else for this category but I wasn't into it. I saw someone else read it, and saw it was short, and it was really the right fluffy read for me right now. (And it was available at the library with no wait!)

I have to wait until Mid March for Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1) by Cassandra Clare , so I'm done until then! Updated post #16.

message 260: by Anna (new)

Anna | 231 comments I finished 2 more to bring my total up to 9. Now the question is, will I get distracted before I can get my hands on an interesting March release.

- Read a brand new author to you

I read it for the same reason. And since I had just finished the emotionally draining group read, the fact that it was cheesey was good for me too at the time.

Wow, thats an impressive list of some emotionally heavy books.

I thought it was a really good and important book. My favorite part was Riley catching themself trying to place others into a gender category. It's natural, I've caught myself doing it before. I also loved that the gender assigned at birth was never obvious because it doesn't matter.

I thought her parents initial reaction was actually more of a symbol of how society at large deals with trying to understand a new term, by relating it to a term we already know. I also liked that it made it clear that this was just one of many variations that falls under the broad category of genderqueer.

I liked the description of the dial (or compass, I forget which) because at least for girls we are already allowed to freely present within a range, from wearing a dress and heels to pants and baggy shirts. And it is totally normal for different people to have different ranges they are comfortable in.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Post 4, I've read my fifth, new release for March. Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs

message 267: by Melanie, looking for a partner in crime (last edited Mar 08, 2016 10:12AM) (new)

Melanie | 1911 comments #7 /released in March A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes, #1) by Brittany Cavallaro .
I only picked this book because of this challenge, but I liked it. The great-grand kids of Sherlock Holmes (female named Charlotte) and Dr. Watson (male named Jamie) end up at the same boarding school in Connecticut. Obviously there's a murder they need need to solve. It was well done.

*I just had to come back and edit the grammar errors in my post. Proof that I should not internet before coffee!

Hey Brandi,

Crimson Bound was much more different than I thought it was going to be. For one, the I feel that the content was heavier than most YA books (murder, seduction, self-loathing, etc), but I didn't mind that. I read Hodge's Cruel Beauty and loved it. I enjoyed reading her books because there's something about her writing that really digs into me emotionally, makes me really think. She has such a way with words...but overall I think I enjoyed the characters and their development than I did with the plot. Sometimes I get confused with the visuals and the mythology but that's minor. I think the real heart of the book is the characters, I actually liked Eric more than the main character because he's such a good villain. I can keep going haha.

Just finished Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas for my recommendation category. Got it from the recommendation forum. This will be book 8 for me!

Also, I wasn't a huge fan of this book in particular but I heard the second one is better. For anybody who has read the series, should I give the second one a try?

message 291: by Brandi (new)

Brandi (brandireynolds) | 247 comments I thought the 2nd and especially the 3rd books were much better than Throne of Glass. But I find myself stalling on the 4th. I dunno. I am developing a love-hate relationship with this series.

message 295: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela Oh and also, I'm in need of a recommendation, any ideas?

What I don't really read on my own or know much about is thriller, horror, mystery and such; so if someone could recommend a good book from those genres it would be great! But anything is welcome, of course. Thank you!

Try this for horror. Its not grotesque like some in the genre can be, and it has an interesting premise that starts it off. The whole first third of the book has you guessing (in a good way) what is going on)
The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey

If you didn't read this with the group, it is a great suspenseful book.
The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray
