message 201: by Casey (new)

Casey Anderson | 637 comments Does Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton count as Thriller? I don't usually read Thrillers so that would be outside my genre. But I'm not sure if it's science fiction. I have read some of that before .

message 202: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm not in charge, but my opinion is that it's a sci-fi thriller... it's a mash-up. :)

message 203: by Gwennie (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments Finished my third! New author to me (but definitely one I'll read again!).

Charm & Strange by Stephanie Kuehn

message 206: by Rae (new)

Rae Quigley (raequigley) | 256 comments Post #12 I also finished #3, which was The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater . Which, sidenote, the original post already has me at 3 but I wasn't until yesterday :)

This is counting as new series for my list, but she was also a new author to me and I am SO impressed. So much so that I've immediately started on the second book in the series lol

First of all - how about some reccomendations?"

Hi Rae - Any particular style of books that you'd like to receive..."

Eek, I just saw this! I've been really into fantasy and paranormal again lately, but I also really like contemporary fiction!

message 208: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) Finished my 5th If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch for debut author. It was published in 2013. Updated post #7.

message 209: by Melanie, looking for a partner in crime (new)

Melanie | 1911 comments Just finished #6
Morning Star released and read in February
Post Melanie #17

message 210: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished #6 - This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp - for debut author. Liked this one and stayed up way too late to finish it

Finished #7 - trying for all 10, why not - Trust Me, I'm Lying (Trust Me, #1) by Mary Elizabeth Summer - unusual genre, thriller/mystery. I really wanted to read this because I went to college with the author, and have been hearing good things about it since it came out.

I've already updated post #16

message 211: by Brandi (new)

Brandi (brandireynolds) | 247 comments Just finished The Warrior Heir (The Heir Chronicles, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima -under recommendation. Updated post #10. That leaves me with one book left and I'm done!

message 212: by Gremlin (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments Brandi wrote: "Just finished The Warrior Heir (The Heir Chronicles, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima-under recommendation. Updated post #10. That leaves me with one book left and I'm done!"

Congrats, Brandi! I know that you're striving for 7 - but you've made it to 6 - which still gets some bells and whistles :)

message 213: by R.A. (new)

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments I finished Ask the Passengers by A.S. King for my recommended book :) I think I'm missing the "debut" read in the total count. I should be at 5 books right now. Trying to finish one for every category!

message 214: by Brandi (new)

Brandi (brandireynolds) | 247 comments Thanks Grem!

Fixed the error, thanks, R.A.!

Also, what did you think of Ask the Passengers?

message 216: by R.A. (new)

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments @Gremlin - I enjoyed it, but the pacing felt a little off for me on the beginning. I think it's a great coming of age story for Astrid and any glbt teens about self-acceptance. It has a lot of important messages. I've been reading a lot of books about quirky weird teens lately, and I think I'm anxious for a different perspective. But that's not a fault of the book ;) I liked it, but I do need a change of pace.

message 217: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I've read my fourth, post #4

Morning Star (Red Rising, #3) by Pierce Brown - New Release for February

message 218: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I am about to start that - How was it?

message 219: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Diane.... it was amazing, lol. I finished it last night, and on my drive to work I felt myself tearing up all over again.

message 220: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments OOOh I cannot wait. I decided to do a reread of Jane Eyre because I just needed that comfort of an "old friend" (it is one of my all time favorites and I have not reread it in many years) As soon as I finish I am all over Morning Star!

message 221: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Jane Eyre is my grandma's favorite book too. I've always wanted to read it, I own a copy, but it keeps getting pushed back.

message 222: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments You should give it a try. I must confess that I have not read many classics and usually the old fashioned language slows things down for me. With Jane Eyre I love the story so much that I can enjoy the language and take my time.

message 223: by Linda (last edited Feb 20, 2016 10:15AM) (new)

Linda I finished my fourth book, under the debut category. I read Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard , which was amazing. Post #28 has been updated. I am seriously considering spending the $12 to start Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2) by Victoria Aveyard as my February release!

message 224: by Brandi (new)

Brandi (brandireynolds) | 247 comments Just finished The Book of Ivy (The Book of Ivy, #1) by Amy Engel under debut author which means I am DONE with this challenge! Woot! Updated post #10.

updated post #15

message 228: by Rae (new)

Rae Quigley (raequigley) | 256 comments I am bowing out gracefully lol. It's a good thing, though, because this challenge inspired me to start a new series and that series is so good that I refuse to read anything else until I finish it LOL

message 229: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I love diving head first into a series that I am loving! That is one good thing about reading an older series - they are all out and you can binge. Sometimes when there is a great book and I have to wait for the others in the series I never get back to it because I have lost the momentum for the series. That is another thing that is great about the end of the year finish it challenge - there is always tons I can read for that one :)

message 230: by Gremlin (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments Updated!!! Great work over the weekend, everyone!

message 231: by Gremlin (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments Rae wrote: "I am bowing out gracefully lol. It's a good thing, though, because this challenge inspired me to start a new series and that series is so good that I refuse to read anything else until I finish it LOL"

Bwahahaha! I both love and hate when that happens.

And no worries on the challenge, Rae. Heck - you got 3 read which is a totally respectable stab! :)

message 232: by Day (new)

Day La | 46 comments #56
I just finished blackhearts which is my February read and book number 5 for under challenge. That book was like pulling teeth for me. That and I had a lot of school work this month so that made it hard to read for leisure. Still hoping I can make it to 10!

message 233: by Brandi (new)

Brandi (brandireynolds) | 247 comments Rae wrote: "I am bowing out gracefully lol. It's a good thing, though, because this challenge inspired me to start a new series and that series is so good that I refuse to read anything else until I finish it LOL"

And I want to know what series you found!

message 234: by Rae (new)

Rae Quigley (raequigley) | 256 comments Raven Cycle! My friend has seriously been talking to me about if for years and I was like hell, why not, it'll fit the New challenge and now I'm halfway through the third and completely obsessed lol.

message 235: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) They're literally awesome, right! I LOVE Raven Cycle! I'm dying for the The Raven King!

message 236: by Anna (new)

Anna | 231 comments For some reason I thought Raven King was coming out the end of March but I just checked to see the exact date and it isn't until the end of April. I thought it was so close and now it seems so far away :(

message 237: by Anna (new)

Anna | 231 comments I haven't finished it yet but was wondering if I could use In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters as my debut book. It appears to have been her first book and was released in 2013 but she has written a bunch of stuff since then.

message 238: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberm867) Completed book # 4 - Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor -Recommendation.

Recommended by Ashley *Hufflepuff Kitten* and KdBrand in the recommendations thread.

Updated original post# 13.

(On that note, I'm also reading the other book recommended to me - Seraphina - I just finished this one first.)

message 239: by Rae (new)

Rae Quigley (raequigley) | 256 comments Oh darn, I thought it was out already!! If it doesn't come out until March I might still have time to do some books for this challenge after all

message 240: by Gremlin (new)

Gremlin | 966 comments Rae wrote: "Oh darn, I thought it was out already!! If it doesn't come out until March I might still have time to do some books for this challenge after all"

Rae, you're totally welcome to hop back in at any time. It's not like I'm going to delete your status or anything :)

And yes. I ADORE the Raven Cycle! I'm also waiting anxiously for the next book.

message 241: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hate to break it to you, but it doesn't come out until April 26th, lol. It's been a looooong weight for those of us who read the first book as a new release.

message 242: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments This just makes me glad that I have bought them all and not read them. I mean usually that is something that is bad, sad, and a number of other things...

Bright side I have more time to pre-order a signed & with any luck doodled copy from Fountain! :D

message 243: by Barb (last edited Feb 27, 2016 10:15AM) (new)

Barb Finished #8 finally! It felt like it took me a long time to read but I did take a reading break in the middle.

Riders (Riders, #1) by Veronica Rossi - February release

I really liked this. Different than Under the Never Sky. Heck, not even close. And it's the first four horsemen book I've read, though I'm sure there are others out there, but it was refreshing for me. A little slow in the middle, but that could have been my mood. I resist reading paper books, so it tends to happen for me. The end was very exciting, and I couldn't put it down for the last 60 pages or so. I knew we were leading to an unfinished ending, but I'm mad I'll have to wait for more, but I felt like enough was wrapped up for a satisfying ending. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here.

I've updated post #16.

message 244: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) Finished my 7th Tarnish by Katherine Longshore . I bought this as a gift to myself from Better World Books holiday sale. Updated post #7.

message 245: by Casey (last edited Feb 27, 2016 07:11PM) (new)

Casey Anderson | 637 comments Finished my 4th!
Darkness Raging (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon, #18) by Yasmine Galenorn
For the category read a book the month it is released! Non YA
Updated my post #22

message 246: by Casey (new)

Casey Anderson | 637 comments Anyone having luck with books with the word "New" in the title? I've only found a couple and I'm either not interested or already read them

message 247: by R.A. (new)

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments I finished Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin today and wow... I'm still trying to find words. In a good way. In a very good way. I think I just confronted the part of myself I dislike (the part that needs to categorize and label things) and bashed it into the ground. Seriously, mind blown, perspective on life shifted, etc. etc. I'm still processing.

It was my new book for February. Squeezed in at the last second :)

message 248: by Day (last edited Feb 27, 2016 11:14PM) (new)

Day La | 46 comments #56
I just finished A Curious Beginning (Veronica Speedwell Mystery, #1) by Deanna Raybourn . This was actually a great book! I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, really fun and I love the characters. I highly recommend it, especially mystery fans!

This will book number 6 for new authors for me :)

New Horizons looks interesting. Thanks. Does the Warriors book count as YA?
