I just started reading it last night. Not a traditional biography at all, but so far quite interesting and enjoyable.

I blush. But am delighted to see you here.

I am speechless. :-}

My comment to Everyman was based on the insight and analysis that he provides in his comments. On any online discussion there are comments which are rote and seem to apply to any number of books. There are people who I follow in any number of forums that I value their opinions and reviews
I am retired, read more and hope to read more classics.

Oh, so tempting. So tempting.
But be still, my fingers. Be still."
Chicken. :-}

Welcome to the club Maureen. You'll find that Everyman is one of my favorite people to pick on (that means that I like him but don't tell him). :-}

As I said in the introductory comment, I'd rather open new threads on the novel on Sundays - as usual. Doing it earlier would probably involve some spoilers for those who are not very far ahead in the week's reading assignment. Actually, I have not even started yet - but I may in a few minutes.

Sorry. I missed that. I was going by the home page which still says that the book starts on May 1st.

Oh, don't let a little thing like that stop you.

Oh, Kim, there will be plenty of opportunities to call us grumps in the course of our reading experience - even though I like Chuzzlewit much better than Oliver or TOCS.

We actually did start on May 1st, but as with Barnaby I think it is not too good to start the thread on the very first reading day.

Books mentioned in this topic
Nicholas Nickleby (other topics)Oliver Twist (other topics)
Barnaby Rudge (other topics)
the poll may not have finished yet but Everman's idea of reading Martin Chuzzlewit according to the instalments the novel appeared in has convinced most, if not all, of the active members, even those who make it a point of honour never to be convinced by grumpy people at all.

I am quite satisfied with this arrangement because I know for sure that Martin Chuzzlewit will make an excellent companion for the summer as it is one of the funniest Dickens novels.
As usual I will open the threads on Sundays, but should you find me remiss in doing so do not hesitate to open the new thread yourselves.
In case you may find any inconsistencies in the above reading schedule, please let me know and I will correct them.
I am very much looking forward to this wonderful novel!!! So much so that I actually indulged in the luxury of three quotation marks, which is a thing I normally associate with puberty.
