Jennifer (bplayfuli) I'm referring to the stereotype that Americans are ignorant of other cultures and countries. Like most stereotypes it's a generalization and not true for every American. In fact, I tend to agree with most of the stereotypes about the US.

The US history curriculum was designed to inspire patriotism rather than educate. It's whitewashed and completely focused on the western world. They should call it historical fiction tbh.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for good (and factual) Eastern history & lit. Thanks in advance!

Harsha Varma (masternamer) India After Gandhi: The History of the World's Largest Democracy by Ramachandra Guha... An interesting read if you're curious about how India has ventured after its independence and has still remained united and a vibrant democracy despite its astounding diversity of religions, languages, and cultures..

Read any of William Dalrymple's books. Planning to read "The Last Mughal" myself.
