Marko (mlazaric) I added this edition yesterday but wasn't aware you could get the ISBN10 from http://pcn.loc.gov/isbncnvt.html so I only put in ISBN13 (ISBN13 is 9789533200613 and according to that site ISBN10 is 9533200618). As well as I tried to add Zlatko Crnković as translator and Fritz Eichenberg as illustrator but it doesn't seem to have worked. So would you be as kind as to add those and check if I made any silly mistakes as it was my first addition?

On a related note: how important is ISBN10 if you already put in ISBN13? And how accurate is that site?

Thanks, have a nice day and happy holidays! :]

lethe | 16359 comments Added their names and the ISBN-10. There were no silly mistakes that I could see, it looks good!

Personally, I only add both ISBNs if they are mentioned in the book, but there are others who do use these converters. It prevents the same edition being added twice, once with the ISBN-10 and once with the matching ISBN-13 (because unfortunately ISBNs on GR are not linked).

I think the site is accurate. When I put in the ISBN-10 I didn't get an error message upon saving, which I would have got if it had been incorrect.

Marko (mlazaric) I have a pair of questions... when you have a book that is technically two books in one like:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Which *should* contain both https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... and https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7... even though there is a significant page number discrepancy, what to do about it? Can you have it as edition of both or just leave it as edition of neither?

On a related note, what to do about books that are two parts of the same book. Example: we have this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... and the Croatian translation of it is split into two pieces. Do we just list both as editions normally, or is there anything special?

Thank you for being so nice and maintaining this great site! :)

Renske | 12223 comments A book that is two books in one is not combined with the separated books, only with other editions that contain the same two works.

If a work is split into multiple parts those parts are not combined with the whole work or with each other. And if a book is split in different ways, like in 2 parts and in 3 parts, those parts are also not combined with each other.

Marko (mlazaric) If a book is old enough not to have ISBN (pretty old Croatian edition of https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... from 1938-1940), should we still add it on GoodReads? Is there an "age limit" or are any books/editions, no matter how old welcome here? And how might one find a cover for it? Is just scanning the book cover a viable option?

Lastly, if I run into any mistakes or find better covers/whatever else, should I create a new thread or post a comment here?

Thank you so much for your help! :)

1. All books are wanted to be created, so yes, if you have a pre-ISBN books, by all means create a new edition if one does not already exist.

2. You can scan your cover and upload it. You can also do this with existing editions you come across that do not already have covers.

3. Yes, please create a new thread for new issues you come across. GR librarians find it easier to deal with new threads because then they know the issue hasn't been resolved.
