Just starting Fobbit, a military satire along the lines of Catch-22:Fobbit \’fä-bit\, noun. Definition: A U.S. soldier stationed at a Forward Operating Base who avoids combat by remaining at the base, esp. during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2011). Pejorative.
Half way through Dreamstreets: A Journey Through Britain’s Village Utopias. It isn't bad, but it isn't great either. Have got Weatherland: Writers & Artists Under English Skies to read over the weekend too
Just started Night Waking by Sarah Moss for the book hunter challenge and also because I am seeing Sarah Moss at the Kibworth book festival in a couple of weeks. Really enjoying it so far!
Paul wrote: "I have only read Names for the Sea: Strangers in Iceland by her. It was really good though"Yes that is the only other one of her books I have read so far, really enjoyed it. I have a bit of a fascination with Iceland.
Going to start The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz today. Loved the other books by Stieg Larsson.
I started The Forgotten Waltz. I was looking for The Green Road in the library, but this was the only book by Anne Enright that they had, so I thought I'd give it a try. At first it felt like Anne Tyler (who I like) but it lacks her lightness of touch and after reading about a third I've given up. It was just so inward-looking and circumscribed.I'll see if I can get hold of The Green Road at another library for June's group read as I think I voted for it (!) but I don't feel like buying it.
Started Climbing Days a day or so ago, but haven't had much chance to read it as we have had visitors.
Recently finished The Revenant by Michael Punke. It's a sizzler so my review is careful not to give anything away.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just starting Field Notes from the Edge & On the Road... with Kids: One Family's Life-Changing Gap Year
Started reading A Bend in the River the other day. On page 85 so far and enjoying it. I wish I'd thought of nominating it for one of the month's classic reads.
Read your review Jan and added the book to my TBR list!

I am listening to Moving by Jenny Eclair which is absolutely not what you would expect from her. Not remotely fluffy or funny, as I believe her other books have been.
I love it.
I love it.
I've just started reading Those We Left Behind by Stuart Neville. I'm preparing myself for it to be quite a hard read emotionally!

Great! Are we talking about Village of Secrets? Hope you enjoy.
I'm going to see Jenny Eclair in her Grumpy Old Women show. Thought I'd treat my mum & sister to an evening out - not sure what they think about it lol.I've started Blacklands by Belinda Bauer. It's the second book I'll have read by this author. She has a very easy to read writing style.
This weekends and next weeks books are:
How to Fly a Horse: The Secret History of Creation, Invention, and Discovery by Kevin Ashto[author:Amit Chaudhurin|7075586]
It's on the Meter: One Taxi, Three Mates and 43,000 Miles of Misadventures around the World by Paul Archer & Johno Ellison
Hunter Killer: Inside the lethal world of drone warfare by T. Mark McCurley & Kevin Maurer
Life from Elsewhere: Journeys Through World Literature by

I am reading At the Edge of the Orchard by Tracy Chevalier and listening to Try Not to Breathe by Holly Seddon.
I'm am loving the Ransom Riggs trilogy of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. My son recommended the first book which I borrowed from him. I just finished the second book Hollow City which I borrowed from Overdrive. I will check out the third book Library of Souls from my local library. (I'm #10 on the Overdrive waiting list for the third book but don't want to wait that long!).

Oooh, me too Jackie! How funny. Let me know what you think of it. So far I'm enjoying it very much although I suspect it won't sustain its promise to the end!
Just starting:
The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Non-fiction by Neil Gaiman
Quartz and Feldspar: Dartmoor - A British Landscape in Modern Times by Matthew Kelly
The White Rock: an exploration of the Inca heartland by Hugh Thomson

Hiya Lisa!I really enjoyed Girl on the Train. Gave it 4 stars. Only thing that very slightly spoiled it for me was that I guessed who had done it a while before the end - and that's unusual for me lol. Are you still enjoying it?
Just starting Innocent Traitor it was given to me by a lovely lady some years ago. I haven't read any Tudor fiction for a long time, so will see how it goes.

I hope not. It is frustrating that we have 1700 plus members and about 20 who contribute regularly!!!

Hi Jackie
Glad it hit the spot for you! I'm just over halfway now – not a lot of reading time currently as it's manic at work – and so far it is better than I thought it would be (thought it would be overhyped like Gone Girl, etc). I have an idea whodunnit too but am not certain I am right yet so it's not spoiling it for me. :)

This happens on every list I have ever been on. People join many things, don't have time for it all, so only browse occasionally.
We have quality over quantity, imo!

Yes that does seem to happen, Lisa. I don't seem to get the notifications from this thread anymore, I have to remind myself to check it. Maybe if that's happening to others it could be a factor too.
Just started 31 Treats and a Marriage by Lynn Farley-Rose. My verdict so far: light, touching, and humorous.

Jackie, my notifications don't seem to work properly, so I often miss updates on a thread for a while, then remember to go in and look and have a catch up.

I have my set so I get everything from here. It is the only way to pick up the spam we occasionally get.
I don't know why I've stopped receiving them; I haven't altered any settings on the site or my phone. I still get them from other groups - it's very odd.
The only place to change that is account settings Jackie. You would need to be on the web page though.
Interestingly enough, I am finding/making time to read books outside of the "required" reading of the clubs and challenges I have taken on. I just finished The Things They Carried and I will finish Things Fall Apart this weekend. Neither fit any categories other than "that sounds good". I did finish One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest this week so I'm not completely off track!
I know, Paul, that's why it's so strange as I haven't touched anything.I'm starting Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline today. A fair few on my friends list have read & rated this book pretty highly, so I'm looking forward to reading it myself.
