Emily Caruso The book The Fault In Our Stars is about a girl named Hazel Grace who is 16 living with thyroid cancer. Hazel's mother forced her to attend a support group because she "believed (she) needed treatment", where she met Augustus Waters, who is 17 and has osteosarcoma, bone cancer (Green, 1). Hazel and Augustus become friends and eventually fall in love. As a cancer patient Augustus uses his wish to go to Amsterdam with Hazel to meet the author of An Imperial Affliction, a book they both very much enjoyed. While meeting Peter Van Houton, they come to find he is not the person the two were expecting him to be. Before leaving their trip, Augustus inflicts important information about his health. Not much later, after their return, Augustus is sent to the hospital because of his cancer and soon after is deceased. This story ends when Hazel reaches out to author Peter to reads the letter Augustus had wrote to the author.

The two main characters of this story are Hazel grace and Augustus Waters. Hazel is a 16 year old cancer patient who is one minded, cynical and pessimistic. She is "depressed" and spends most of her "abundant free time thinking about death" (Green, 1). Throughout the story Hazel learns that life is worth living, and realized although life is short, life goes on.

Augustus is a 17 year old cancer patient who is optimistic and adventurous. Augustus "fears oblivion" and does not want to have his life end, which is the opposite of Hazel (Green, 281). As the story continues Augustus learns that you do not need t be well known to be loved, that small things will get you through.

I enjoyed this book because it was a dramatic and tragic love story that left you "thinking about death" and "rather blushy" (Green, 1 &10). The book left you wanting to keep reading and never failed to give me passion. It was an insightful and bold story that was very enjoyable.

The metaphoric phrase "You put the this that does the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do it's killing" was used by Augustus (Green, 20). This metaphor shows how people can not control everything that happens in your life but the things you do have control of are cared for in the best way. Next Augustus also used the metaphor "the world is not a wish-granting factory" which means that the world does not just give you whatever you want when you want it, you have to work for what you have and get in life. (Green, 214). Last the simile "like a clap of thunder unaccompanied by lightning" meaning he cried and sobbed so loudly and sadly that it was like thunder without the flash and light. (Green, 215)

This was an amazing book by John green that is just unbelievable well written and will want you to continue reading until the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fictional, dramatic romance and comedy stories. It is a very good book to read and I think anyone who reads it will also enjoy it.
