Why do libraries not have the complete series? My wife and I have found that our libraries and Overdrive do not have all books in a series. For example, Overdrive has 7 of 10 Myron Bolitar series (Harlan Coben) and only 17 of the Sue Grafton alphabet series.

Oh, good question!!! Drives me nuts sometimes.
maybe not all available for purchased via overdrive - libraries have to pick which books they want - overdrive is just the method of distributing them - or decided to not spend their precious funds on them - since the audiobooks they have to buy are often times 4x (or more) what we pay for them
Good question... and it's not just libraries. There are a number of incomplete series on Audible as well, even though there is an audio recording out there.
On Audible it sometimes is because of other publishers/rights/regions, sigh... When I log off and view the series they are there, when logged on they are not - no rights for my country.And the libraries over here sometimes buy books on request, but they do have a budget. So if someone asked for a #3 of a series, they may buy it, but not have the rest.
There's been some kind of snag with the Poldark series by Winston Graham. The first three became available on Audible -- I snapped those up -- and waited for #4, Warleggan. I began noticing that #4 was available in Australia and the UK but not the U.S. Now Audible has books 5 and 6 as coming in March 2016. Lots of us are questioning the problem with the U.S. getting #4. I did find a page that stated that #4 Warleggan would be released internationally in early Feb. 2016. I hope that's true.

You know how you can recommend that your library buys a book? Some aren't even there to recommend.
It doesn't have so much to do with Overdrive itself , it is a matter of money for most libraries each of those audiobooks (the Harlan Coben's) are $60 each and the Sue Grafton ones are $95 a piece so it may just be that to buy backlist might not be financially feasible. At least this is what I have found as a buyer for our Overdrive consortium. I can only buy as much as I have the budget for and need to buy the new releases so doesn't leave much for older books. I just put an order in I got 16 audiobooks for $1000. I really wish I could share my audible books with my library because I can get them so much cheaper on there!

There are a number of incomplete series on Audible as well, even though there is an audio recording out there."Some of that specific circumstance could be a matter of those books having received significantly poor reviews than the rest of the series, so the publisher or Audible, made the decision to skip them. Very recently I broke down and read the print copy of one of those skipped books in series (Feathering mysteries by Simon Brett) that is available to British listeners. I ended up bailing on it, being glad that I hadn't purchased the title at Audible, where I may well have returned it.
