Mine is 200 because I usually read about 5 to 6 books a week...
I've given myself 30 books as a challenge.... realistic for me, depsite wishing I could put it higher, as I have an idea of how little time I'll have for books :(
Thanks Hallie.Hopefully this year I can get a better idea of what I can manage now without the studying in my way, but a low goal easily surpassed suits me more than a high goal I struggle to reach :)

My goal for 2016 is 70 books. I slacked last year, but still made it over 50, so I hope this year will be better.
I completed it twice, doubling it every time. So, first fifty books, then a hundred books, and now I'm eighty percent of the way to my two hundred goal. (=160 books so far this year)Thinking about making my 2017 challenge fifty long books instead of just "books".
Just looking through this thread I'm impressed to see how many books some of you can read. I've only read maybe 5 books this year, but a lot of my time has been absorbed writing my 2nd book. Out of all the books you've read this year, what was your favorite?

I've got so many favourites! I can't name all of them because I've read around 121 books (I think), and there were so many good ones.

Depends on what you mean by favorite. Sometimes I'm in the mood for 'old favorites'. The tried and trues that I can pick up and maybe only read parts of. Like visiting an old friend. I tend to buy more than I can read which means they accumulate in stacks until the time is right. Scary book - might not be right when I'm already on edge from work or life or whatever. And "great literature" again, not for every moment in life. One of my favorite books is War and Peace but despite it's length it's not quite right for a plane ride distraction. What are you in the mood for? I'm sure we can come up with some ideas!
My goal for 2016 is 60 Books. Super impressed reading the above goals for 2016.
Hope everyone is on track to reach their 2016 goal.
My goal is 30 books cause I didn't have time when school was and I read just two books till now so this summer I am totally into reading and trying to read things I wanted to read for long time.... Now I read 8 of 30 .
I originally had set mine at 300 for the year but working full time and being so busy all the time I changed it to 100. I am currently half way through number 20, so I still have quite a ways to go.I get through mine by literally taking my book with me everywhere I go. waiting for my husband to come to the car? read a couple pages. use the restroom? read a couple pages. go outside to smoke at work? read a couple pages. then power read on my lunch break and at nights and on days off. the shortest book I read was about 106 pages.
My goal is 30 books. Busy wife and teacher here. I find time nearly everyday for reading, but I'm also a wee slow at reading, I like to digest every word on the page and really sink into the worlds created by the authors. Also, the internet is not my friend... I should probably be reading now but instead I am here writing this. Oh the struggle is real~ .
Original goal: 50Current goal: 200
Books read so far this year: 193
My sister encourages me to make the next goal 300.
My goal started as 25, bumped it to 50, and I'm sitting at 46 books read right now. Probably gonna end up bumping that up a bit.
Hoping to get to 100 books a year for 2017 :)

Last couple of years I've read 85 a year. looks like I won't make it this year because I've spent more time writing my book than reading.
I set my goal at 50 books. So far I read about 37 for my reading challenge. In fact I read way more books but the goal I set for myself was 50 substantial books (i.e. 'real' literature or classics)
@marieke, a friend of mine a few years ago, set a nonfiction only goal, 50 of them. It was an educational year. ;)
I set mine at 12 because right now I need to focus on studying math to pass my certification exam and start working as a math teacher. So 1 book a month seemed reasonable. I have to say that so far I have read 11 and I'm already on number 12 and I'm not stoping just yet so we will see how many I end up reading before the year ends.
My goal was originally 13, but has grown to 25. This is only my summer reading goal, because extra curricular activities and schoolwork restrain me from reading much during school.
I set mine for 18. Last year I set it high and found myself picking up books of small sizes more often rather than enjoying a good, engaging read.
My goal is 30, I'm currently at 32 and still going. Last year it was 68 books read, but I have a new job this year and can only read on my lunch break.
Mine is twenty but I read alot more I just forget to update
I think people shouldn't worry about other peoples' reading goals, there's different amounts of time available to read, it's a challenge for yourself, based on your time and needs. If you want to read 10, that's great! I was humbled when I saw how many Patrick Rothfuss had set. My goal is 50, and I set a "stretch goal" of 58, to round out my "books read" number. The overall plan I have is to read more of my TBRs, and donate more of those books. Also, read more science and classics.
