Neko Sooo, I'm trying something a bit different this year..I'm not entirely sure if it'll work but whatever, hey?

My plan is this...To be able to purchase a new book I have to finish off a book I already own be it on the Kindle or on my shelf. However, I'm giving myself a little "bonus" to help kick things off...I'm allowed to purchase 5 books of my choosing without needing to finish 5 old books.

I will also give myself the goal of reading 50 books in the year so that'll help with some guidance too.

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Hmm... are you going to make exceptions for sales and special offers? What about "buy two, get one free" deals? Or "free shipping for a limited time"?

Now you can tell what my weaknesses are!

message 3: by Neko (new)

Neko Hahaha...Susan I didn't even think of those things!! Except when all my "wish list" books on my Kindle went dirt cheap.

But you do bring up a good point tho!

Anna | 477 comments Good luck :) I should probably do this too. My partner is constantly asking "What did you buy on Amazon now?!" when he looks at the credit card transactions :p

You know if you buy yourself a gift card at Amazon, it just reduces that as you buy, plus you don't pay any international fees on your credit card...took me a long time (too long) to learn that, but that's what I do now:)

message 10: by Neko (new)

Neko 28 Degree CC has no international fees..it's what i use online n when traveling..it great...worth it i think if you shop internationally alot :)

Wow, good luck with that Laura! It's a really good goal but will take a lot of will power :)

message 12: by Neko (new)

Neko Thanks :) Atleast I gave a bonus of 5 books to purchase at my will!! Lol

Kinda doing the same with my gaming purchases...I actually took a massive break from gaming...Nothing has piled on top of what i already own...but i figure i need to polish some of those older games off...So, I've finished about 5 or 6 games since pucking up the controller again in Dec.

message 13: by Neko (new)

Neko picking not pucking..lolol! And that wasn't an auto correct either XDD

Neko Okay so I noticed a sale on the US Amazon and it had one of my books for only $3ish so I HAD to purchase it ($6 saving).

Neko 4) Mill Girl: A Victorian Girl's Diary, 1842-1843
This is in a series but don't need to be read in any order..It's historically acute but done in a fun way..Looking through the eyes of a girl who works at a cotton factory between the age of 13/14.

Neko Since finishing 5 books I've actually purchased some books..Ones I don't want to go towards my Bonus books....However, I can't purchase anymore books without finishing MORE or they HAVE to go into my Bonus books.

I recently picked up LEGO Ninjago: Character Encyclopedia, LEGO NINJAGO Brickmaster (but mine is the updated version), LEGO Minifigure Year by Year: A Visual History, Frog Music and Ethan Grout

So, yeah....Not entirely killing my TBR by buying more but with two books on the go I'm still making some sort of inroads.

Neko 7) Grandpa And Thomas And The Green Umbrella

Technically I don't own this book...I read it at work...But I'm also using this for the 50 book challenge so it's going here as well.

And due to the condition of the LEGO Minifigure book I had to send that back....So my latest purchase Australia's Most Murderous Prison: Behind the Walls of Goulburn Jail doesn't count towards the bonus book...I should have another book finished before the LEGO book comes back to me.

Neko 11) Spot Goes to the Beach
Heh..A work read but again it's going toward my 50 read for the year goal. I should be able to list this multiple times as I've probably read it 10 plus times already since last week!! Lol

message 32: by Neko (new)

Neko 12) Spot Goes to School
Another work read :P Didn't really make any effort to read this weekend..Maybe next weekend or hopefully during the week unless I come home dead tired as per usual..lol
