Rose I saw the trailer, and it seemed a bit like a movie for teenage girls, much similar to mean girls. And it just seemed to be mocking the book (I haven't seen it, these are just my assumptions) and depriving it of the potential heart-felt emotions.

So I guess I'm appealing to all those who've both read the book and seen the movie, is it more for the 'teenaboppers' of the world?

Mary It only lasted in theaters by me for 1 week. I thought I would wait it out a few weeks to go see it. No such luck. Too many people thought it was another vampire movie and passed I guess.

Taylor I think it stuck to the book very well and you got to remember the first book was more of a teenager book then any of them the series got darker as it went on

Nikita Those who were involved with the movie did a poor job of marketing the movie. The trailer for example, made the movie look stupid or a spoof, which made people not want to go. Another is the movie release. In the US, the movie was released a week early. It also didn't help that it was the same opening weekend as Lego Movie.

I thought they did a good job with the movie. I think they went too fast in some areas and not enough character development but it was still good. And they could have made it longer.

Taylor Nikita wrote: "Those who were involved with the movie did a poor job of marketing the movie. The trailer for example, made the movie look stupid or a spoof, which made people not want to go. Another is the movi..."

Yeah and I honestly believe if the Lego movie didn't come out around the same time it would have gone better

Jayne Honestly I loved the book and probabl couldn't have lasted through the movie had I not been so invested from the characters in the series. They turned this book, which I always felt was mostly serious and intense with some comic releif into a commedy with some serious relief(if that makes sense haha). They played down a lot of that serious tone to appeal to people I guess and did not develop ANY of the characters. Plus, the characters they attempted to develop they developed them all wrong.

Rose I see, I got the impression from the trailer that it was a spoof, which I guess is why I didn't want to see it at the cinema.

Have you all seen the movie Vampires Suck? Well I thought it was like that xD

I ADORE the books so much, that I am scared to go see the movie in case it ruins the books for me.

I really enjoyed the movie and it didn't ruin the series for me in fact I still love the series

Ebony Honestly? I started watching the movie online and I got about five minutes into it and I was so mad. It's horrible!

First off, the actors could not act at all. It all seemed so fake. Also, the actors they chose weren't exactly what you would have envisioned the ones in the book to be. I seriously think the only character that matches the one in the book is the person who played Christian...

Second, it didn't really stick to the book... It just... It makes me so mad because the book is absolutely amazing and the movie looked as if it were mocking it.

I still love the books, don't get me wrong, but I was so excited for the movie but it was a giant flop.

The movie definitely needed a better script, directer, budget, better EVERYTHING.

I was so disappointed. I wished that Richelle was part of the screen-play script writing and also there to over-view the movie in the making (as well as cast picking), it would have been much, much better.

J.C. Do not listen to the people who say it was bad. Yes, they changed things from the book, but they worked really hard on the movie and they did an amazing job. The actors were brilliant and they all understood the characters they were playing and portrayed them very well. It follows the book very closely and they came up with some very entertaining lines. Besides, most of the things they changed just helped you get to the conclusion faster than a 300 paged book would.

Yeah, the trailers sucked, but it was because this movie didn't get all of the support that it deserved. The company wanted something different than what the writers were willing to give them, so they didn't make it as big as they were planning on. Don't believe the trailers and watch movie. I really think that you'll like it if you just give it a chance.

That is true, however, They added way too much comedy than was needed. I don't remember rose cracking so many jokes (view spoiler) The fact that the guy that worked on Mean Girls worked on this really shows.

Their changes made no sense, the dialogue with Christian/Lissa in the chapel attic ALONE was horribly unnecessary. "Don't worry, I don't bite, Well, only literally" WTF is this? His original dialogue was much better in the book and actually made sense, why change it? I'm glad it bombed because I never wanna see any of the other books get this kind of treatment. The fact that the screenwriter mentioned coming up with lines for Adrian makes me cringe, What's the point of adapting if you're just going to come up with your own lines rather than using the books?

I just want to say right now I'm not trying to get into a fight but I reread vampire academy just yesterday and Christian actually did say to Lissa in the book,"don't worry I don't bite, not in the way your thinking anyways" or something very similar to that so that kind of was a line from the book

Gabriela Barisic I saw the movie today. I have mixed feelings about it. Christian and Lissa were great, but connection between Rose and Dimitri was shown poorly. And I expected it would last a bit longer. I didn't like that overly bitchy personalities of both, Lissa and Rose. I don't remember it being pushed that much in books. And I also don't understand the part where they can use laptops, but not cellphone? wtf?

P.S. Mason and Christian are so cuteeeeeeee!

Book Christian: “Don't worry, I won't bite. Well, at least not in the way you're afraid of."

Movie Christian: "Don't worry, I don't bite, Well, only literally."

Not really, It doesn't even make any sense. That alone was an dumb change.

Kirsty Little warning too all. If you love these books as much as i do please dont watch the film they have completly ruined everything about the book the only thing i enjoyed about the film was the fighting. Its a big dissapointment. I hope to go that if they want too do a 2nd film PLEASE PLEASE sell the rights to another company so it can be saved as i want dont want to watch another disney channel tv series turned film

Madeleine Honestly. from a filmmaking standpoint, the only people who could love this movie are the fans. It's a great adaptation, but a bad standalone. So you'd need to read the book to really like it.

Magdalena Huge disappointment ... fight scenes ahhh auful City of Bones was 1000 times better in that department and if i haven't read the book first a would have no idea what's it about ... and huge thing in book is that Lisa have no idea that Rose have feelings for Domitri until his changed...so i hate the movie and i love the book

I agree. I just finished watching the movie and it was a disappointment. Okay so yes they followed book BUT they also changed the characters. It was the little things that buged me like Mia's hair and I think Headmistress Kirova was all wrong. Another thing.. What was up with whole bit with Ms Karp at the end of the movie?!

Amanda Patrisha wrote: "Magdalena wrote: "Huge disappointment ... fight scenes ahhh auful City of Bones was 1000 times better in that department and if i haveMyan't read the book first a would have no idea what's it about..."
Sorry, there are spoilers, I don't know how to hide them lol
Out of all the horribleness this movie was, I think the thing that irritated me the most was them making it look like Headmistress Kirova was a villain... what the heck was up with the syringe?? The way Lissa "cut" herself, the fact that Rose went and told all the teachers what was happening.
If that wasn't bad enough, what was with Lissa's speech at the end of the movie? explaining that she has a rare magic called spirit and that Victor kidnapped her and tried to use her, telling the Queen off?? In the books you watch Lissa grow into the Queen she deserves to be, they keep spirit a secret for quite a while... I could go on and on. In all honesty I could have gotten over how bad the movie was, until that speech at the end... that speech in front of the school should never have happened... kind of makes the rest of the movies they would make a little more pointless.

That's the whole point of adapting a book and making it a movie! It's to make it your own. And as for the changes I wasn't talking about the lines--I was talking about the changes they made involving Soyna Karp. That was all very interesting. Besides, a lot of people found it confusing in the books, but the movie really made it come to life. And as for Christian's line it was a shortened version of the line from the book. Get over it.

Then it's not really an adaptation if you're just making it "your own", The Sonya Karp stuff is an complete laugh though and ruins any mystery of what happened to her after she turned Strigoi.

Shortened and changed for no good reason. That's terrible writing.

Pegs099 it was a DISASTER ! i hated it so much, i wanted to burn my eyes ! Dimitri was not hansome at all..... and the characters in the movie seemed shallow ( we had that idea about Rose in the book too but only at first)so many things were wrong and uuurggg they have to make this movie again and right this time

Agreed! I even went in accepting that it would not be exactly what I would like to see (since that is how it always is) and that didn't even work.... I still ended up frustrated and disappointed at the end. I went with some friends who never read the book, they had only heard me talk about it and even they didn't like the movie. They said it seemed like it was on fast forward and it was confusing... after the movie we went for coffee and they spent a couple of hours just asking me questions and getting me to describe the book.

I see all these petitions and such to have frost bite done because the first one didn't sell like they were hoping. I want to sign them, yet I feel like they butchered the first one so bad that unless they find a new director I won't sign it.

.·:*¨ × Shannon♥Stelena&Bamon&Sydrian × ¨*: Mana wrote: "unless they find a new director I won't sign it."

And an new screenwriter, They just weren't cut out for VA. They should have did The DUFF instead.

Amanda Yes and a new screenwriter ... Maybe they should get us fans to go in and show them how it needs to be done? ... Actually that would be so cool if we could :)

Evelyn Scott The Movie was so bad !!!How did Mead even approve it?? Mason who was supposed to be cool was such a dork and don't even get me started on Lissa and Natalie

Evelyn Scott Nice point, Shannon

Crystal I believe the movie could have been much better than what it was. I was actually shocked that it was so bad.

I've been wondering, what has Richelle Mead said about that movie? Honestly, did she like it ? Was it the way she had it in her mind ? Because the fans (of older age and not the 12year olds -no offence- ) i think had imaginedit diferently ! ...or is it just me?

I've noticed that older viewers didn't like the movie where the younger viewers loved it. So maybe that was their main focus after all.

Even if she didn't, there is no way she'd tell us fans. There was already backlash for the trailers, poster and clips that were released that if she, herself, said anything bad about it, even the tiniest thing, it would have done even worst at the box office because fans would outcry "See? Even she hated what they did to it!".

She didn't even mention the fact that the screenwriter originally wanted Christian an blond and making Jesse Latin for some reason, she just kept gushing on and on about how they loved VA too, how much they wanted to do VA justice and how close they were sticking to the book. Does anyone remember when she went on and on just because they had posters in the Library set?

I don't get why they wanted Christian blond and I see why they wanted Jesse Latin but I don't understand it.

They are just dumb changes. I also have no idea why things that DON'T need to be changed are even considered being changed.

Which is why I refuse to support it and hope that the plans for Frostbite are dead and gone.

I was given a free copy of the movie. I didn't see it in the movie theater. I didnt even know that they were thinking about making a second movie. I thought with the bad office box numbers they were not willing to go any further with VA.

Oh, VA's facebook has been teasing about Frostbite and even Adrian for months now.

Also Mark had did an podcast and talked about Frostbite.

He says, "my producers are trying to figure out a way if they could possibly make it, make Frostbite." I also can't believe he's blaming the critics not liking it just because of no early screening, How childish. Why can't he just acknowledge he and his brother screwed up big time?

Oh, no they are going to ruin another book and they are to ruin Adrian. They already ruined Dimitri.

The weird think is that the actor playing Dimitri is actualy a hot one, considering further photos on imbd but in the movie he seemed so unatractive to me!!!! i was reading the book and i was like "omg this in a movie will be so awweeesome" and yet.... i was soo wrong ... take the scene where they are charmed from the pendant and make out...it was such a disapointment .. i wanted to cry for a fovever ruined magical awesome moment... why was he so not cool in the movie whereas he is actually cute ??

He does look a little older in the movie. I remember when Rose was like "he's old enough to be my.. Not my father more like my uncle a disturbingly sexy uncle" in my mind I was like 'he may not be old enough but he looks it' but as I watched the movie more I got use to it and personally I never heard an accent, not a very think one anyways but he didn't talk much ether though
