Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments So after years of successfully completing this challenge, 2015 didn't happen, largely due to having my hands full with a baby/toddler.
I've never been an e-book person, but I caved and started using Kindle a couple of weeks ago. That way, I can read on the app on my phone when I'm caught under a sleeping or nursing child. I'm hoping this helps.
OK, 2016. it's on.

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 1. Shockaholic - Carrie Fisher

Mediocre read. Not terrible, but not as funny as Wishful Drinking was. Quick, though.

Good luck for 2016!

I know how you feel about e-books (I feel the same way about audiobooks, too) -- I want to feel a book in my hand, feel the paper's texture, smell the glue, be able to determine how long the book is by looking at it, or celebrate how far I've come by seeing where my bookmark is... But sometimes e-books and audiobooks are just so much more convenient! Argh! :)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments Thank you! And so glad to hear you get where I'm coming from. :-D

message 5: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 2 The Way To God and How to Find It - DL Moody

Ohhhhh man. The result of downloading a bunch of free e-books. Quaint is the word I'd use to describe this. Mid-19th-Century Christian oratory. Basically a book-length sermon.

Facepalm.

message 6: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 3. Cave in the Snow - Vicki MacKenzie

I've wanted to read this book for a while, and I wasn't disappointed.

message 7: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 4. The Giver - Lois Lowry

I'd never read this book before, despite having taught middle school reading. one of the kids I tutor is reading it, and I promised I'd read it. I finished it in two hours. my heart hurts.

Now there's a book recommendation!

message 9: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments Oh this app is being so finicky today!

5. Bring up the Bodies - Hilary Mantel

The sequel to Wolf Hall. Just as good. Now to wait impatiently for the next book.

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 6. The Practice of the Presence of God - Brother Lawrence

message 11: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 7. Very British Problems - Rob Temple

8. Thoughts in Solitude - Thomas Merton

message 12: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 9. The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck - Sarah Knight

Hahaha this was great. "A practical parody," indeed.

message 13: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 10. After Birth: Unconventional Writings from the Mommylands - Jenny Fiore

Parts of this were good, but overall it wasn't as good as I'd hoped it'd be.

message 14: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 11. When Jesus Wept - Bodie Thoene

message 15: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 12. Toddlers are A**holes (It's Not Your Fault) - Bunmi Laditan

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 14 Oppressed in the Butt by my Inclusive Holiday Cups - Chuck Tingle

message 19: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments And for more "normal" reading...

15. The Happiest Toddler on the Block - Harvey Karp

Finally finished this one. I misplaced it when traveling a few months ago and just found it again yesterday.

message 20: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 16. The Self-sufficient-ish Bible - Andy & Dave Hamilton

message 23: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 19. Reiki: Everything You Need to Know About Reiki Healing - Antonio Barros

Kindle unlimited is a dangerous thing, haha. The Chakra section was useful. Overall, noticeably amateurish in the writing. Sated my curiosity. Good enough.

message 24: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 20. Pounded in the Butt by my Hugo Award Nomination - Chuck Tingle

OK, I think the novelty of this has been fulfilled for me now. I of course needed to read the one connected to the article about this guy.
Each of these books has actually been a double, but I haven't counted them as 4 because they're really short stories. The second book that went with this involved anthropomorphic corn. SO weird, but hilarious in its own way.

message 25: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 21. Cops' True Stories of the Paranormal - Loren W. Christiansen

I really enjoyed this. It was an impulse pick on Kindle Unlimited, so I'm pleased.

message 26: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 22. Suddenly You - Lisa Kleypas

message 27: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 23. Saint Therese of Lisieux: A Model for Our Times - Wyatt North

24. Feeling the Bern in my Butt - Chuck Tingle

hahahahaha! I can't say more without spoilers.

25.The Duke and I - Julia Quinn

I was gifted some bodice-rippers for Christmas last year. Though not my usual style, I'm enjoying them.

26. Ghost Stories: The Most Horrifying Real Ghost Stories from Around the World Including Disturbing- Ghost, Hauntings & Paranormal Stories - Hannah J Tidy

Not worth your time. Thank God for Kindle Unlimited.

message 29: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments I knew I was missing one!

message 33: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 32. They Cage The Animals at Night - Jennings Michael Burch

owwwww my heart. This was a roller coaster

message 34: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 33. God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea: Finding God in the Midst of Everyday Moments - Rose Chandler Johnson

Meh. Not what I was expecting. I've been exploring many different avenues of connecting with the divine, and I suppose I'm culturally removed enough from the type of Christianity this woman is a part of that it mostly fell flat.

Again, thank God for kindle unlimited. There's little sting in reading a clunker.

message 35: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 34. Unmentionable: The Victorian Lady's Guide to Sex, Marriage, and Manners - Therese O'neill

This book was FABULOUS.

message 40: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 39. Slammed in the Butt by my Concept of Linear Time - Chuck Tingle

Sometimes you just want to read self-aware, bizarre, questionably satirical gay erotica, lol. I think the holiday cups one is still my favorite, but this one for very meta, which was interesting.

message 41: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 40. The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: A Magical Christmas Menu - Dinah Buchholz

Underwhelming recipes, but cute blurbs about the parts of the story they come from. A kindle unlimited book, so no real disappointment.

41. All Creation Waits: The Advent Mystery of New Beginnings - Gayle Boss

This was beautiful. Bought it thinking I'd read it to my son, but it's above him still. Looking forward to revisiting it in other years.

message 42: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 2 weeks left to the year, 9 books to hit my goal. I think I may be able to pull this off.

message 43: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments 42. Cold Antler Farm - Jenna Woginrich

message 44: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments Going against my previous assertion and adding in more of my Chuck Tingle adventures, because there's no way I'm hitting 50 :(

42. The State of California Stalks My Gay Butthole - Chuck Tingle

43. Creamed in the Butt by my Handsome Living Corn - Chuck Tingle

Hilarious and twisted.

message 45: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie (trippie) | 506 comments That should have been 43 and 44.
