Funny, we watched this last week - guess I didn't write anything about this movie - probably because I couldn't post.

Thought it was a good movie. We watched via You Tube and streamed it to our large tv - first time we used this method.

My ninety three year old husband went up into the attic to check the walls so see where the leak was coming from and fell and cut his wrist but at least he didn't fall through the ceiling but said he was afraid he was going to do so. He promised me he'd never go up there again. Keep you posted.

Watched "The White Cliffs of Dover," and it wasn't great but good acting; Irene Dunne, Van Johnson, Roddy McDowell, and beautiful little girl Elizabeth Taylor. Too sad and I guess it was supposedly for the war effort but a bit silly with all the dialect in poetry.

I have finished five seasons of "Downton A bbey" this month and really, really enjoyed it. I will see season six this week. Then, the Downton Abbey movie opens on September 20th! Looking forward to it!

Saw a very good trailer of Downton.. and so good to see those characters one more time. Interview with Tom and he said appearing one more time is like riding a bicycle. Easy as falling off a log once you've done it. I especially liked his character. And Mary looks stunning in her new bob haircut. Also, Tom said the movie takes place about six to seven months after the last episode.

Nina, which "Tom"? Do you mean Allen Leech, the one who plays the role of Tom Branson?

Watched "Mary Poppins Returns" on DVd with two friends. Very good movie, enjoyable; mixture of animation and live action. Music was good---my favorites being "The cover is not the Book " and "Trip the light fantastic".Nice ending which includes Angela Lansbury as The Balloon Lady. Not quite as good as the original Mary Poppins movie with Julie Andrews, but pretty close. Treat you family to a fun evening or two and watch both "Poppins" movies. '

I came across some documentaries by Humphrey Jennings that he did for the Ministry of Information (United Kingdom) today. Interesting stuff.


"A Defeated People" Germany After WWII (1946) is about the British occupation & administration of one part of Germany after WWII. Pretty brutal, even beneath the propaganda. Very strict rules & rations.


The Farm (1938) is a very nice tour of a good sized farm. No mention of a tractor; they use a horse drawn seeder. Quite a few cute babies & fun commentary. It's actually unintentionally hilarious in parts. The commentator talks about corn while they're actually working on barley, wheat, or rye. And then it becomes hay rather than straw. City guy, I guess.

I look forward to watching more of these.

I lived on a farm from 1929 until 1936. I don't remember too much as I was only two when we moved there and six when we left. My parents worked in the city and I stayed with my grandparents who also lived on the same property but in a different house. Also, living there were my paternal grandparents and great grandparents and great great uncle. It was the Depression and I think they all lived in the same place to save money. There was no tractor; just horses and a wagon and I suppose a plow.

Interesting but sad to read about the mistreatment but was it understandable? Probably not. War is so cruel to so many undesereable.
