Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I watched the trailer to "Goodbye Christopher Robin". I can rent it from Amazon for $5.99. I might do that.

Nina | 6069 comments Watched "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," one more time and it was fun; just pleasant to sit and dream after watching a bit about Kate Spade's funeral which by the way was held at our church.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, that was a good way to keep your thoughts from being too sad.

Nina | 6069 comments Just watched another Megan Markel movie, "The Dater's Handbook," and it was good. She really was a good actress and very pretty and perky.

Cheaper than going to the movies!
I'm going to add to my list of movies to see. Maybe by the time I get around to watching it will be free. Ha ha

Nina | 6069 comments Watched "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," last night and I had forgotten how beautiful Marilyn Monroe was as a young actress.

Yes, Nina, she was lovely.

I'm reading a library ebook in my browser:
Audrey Hepburn: A Charmed Life BY Robyn Karney
See my review at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Audrey was lovely too.

message 964: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments I have read an autobio about her but can't remember the name now. She did lead a fascinating but difficult life; especially when young.

message 965: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I had forgotten so much about Audrey Hepburn's life. This ebook is happily bringing it all back. Lots of detail too, plus the photos!

Nina | 6069 comments Just watched again after many years ago, "Chitty Chitty Band Bang," and didn't realize until now that it was written by Ian Fleming and
seems amazing to me that the creator of the James Bond series could come up with such a varied two movies. I think he is actually a creative genius. Even though Dick Van Dyke was starring in the Chitty movie I didn't think it was up to his role in "Mary Poppins."

Fast paced with international and domestic relations and issues; good interactions with office staff, daily political nuances, and family and more.

Doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy, but thanks for posting, Linda. At least now I'm aware of it. :)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Growing up I truly enjoyed the Andy Hardy movies and everything with Mickey Rooney.

"Pure fun" a very good description!

message 974: by Nina (last edited Jul 22, 2018 11:47AM) (new)

Nina | 6069 comments "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation" is a fascinating movie set in the seventies in Brazil about parents leaving a child with a grandfather who they didn't know had just died. How did a twelve year old cope with this? It does have subtitles if that is uncomfortable for you; great acting.

message 975: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation" (2006)
IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0857355/...
"A boy is left alone in a Jewish neighborhood in the year of 1970, where both world cup and dictatorship happen in Brazil."

Sounds interesting, Nina.

message 976: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Subtitles - sometimes its easy to follow along and sometimes not. Maybe depends on movie or one's mood?

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Who is/was your favorite actor/actress?
Mine growing up was Jimmy Stewart and Susan Hayward.

Nina | 6069 comments Gregory Peck and not because we share our last names.

message 979: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Saw a really good movie last night; kept me on the edge of my seat and couldn't guess the end; "The Mountain Between Us," and it is on Netflex but not Stream perhaps.

The Mountain Between Us (2017)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2226597/...
"Stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow-covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across the wilderness."

Stars: Idris Elba, Kate Winslet, Beau Bridges

Sounds like a thiller!

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments RE-Watching the second season of The Big Bang Theory. I have seen most of the episodesbefore; enjoyable to watch the cd set with no commercials!

Sheldon and Leonard are great characters, as are the supporting actors. They have long odd titles , but I found "The Bath Gift Item Hypothesis" especially pleasant. Season 2, Episode 11.

A very funny, short half hour series if you have never seen it.

message 984: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Yes, Mary, I agree, The Big Bang Theory is a great TV series. Sheldon is the most interesting character.

message 985: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We love the BBT, too. My favorite character is Penny. Besides being good looking, she's quite the equestrian in real life. We like Sheldon, too. We're really enjoying Young Sheldon. I thought it would be awful, but it isn't. It's as funny as the BBT.

message 986: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I enjoy Sheldon's girlfriend. They have a strange and funny relationship.

message 987: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments Glad to hear "Young Sheldon" is enjoyable, Jim. I'll try to watch a few.

message 988: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments Joy, Sheldon is a very interesting character! But he is especially funny when interacting with the others in the show. One of the few comedy shows I like---it appeals to the inner nerd in me.

Nina | 6069 comments Another good movie in case you haven't already seen it. "The Post" starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina wrote: "Another good movie in case you haven't already seen it. "The Post" starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep."

Yes, I've seen clips of it but haven't seen the full movie. Seems like we already know the story from current events. Why slog through it again? I guess we'd get a different perspective from Streep's character's point of view.

The Post (2017)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6294822/...
"A cover-up that spanned four U.S. Presidents pushed the country's first female newspaper publisher and a hard-driving editor to join an unprecedented battle between the press and the government."
CAST:
Meryl Streep - Kay Graham
Tom Hanks - Ben Bradlee

PS-Mary JL, I enjoy seeing Sheldon (Jim Parsons) on talk shows playing himself. He has an interesting personality.

Thanks for reminding me about this movie. I would give it a try just to see Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. Both are very good.

Nina | 6069 comments Watched another Alfred Hitchcock old movie, "To Catch A Thief," and still was impressed with Grace Kelly's beauty. Her bio is one of the most interesting I've ever read and also very interesting was the one I listened to by a different author. One of my long ago friends knew her as a teenager in Philadelphia. She apparently ran around with her brother's crowd. My friend said she always remember Grace wore bright red lipstick.

message 996: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, a while ago I read a biography of Grace Kelly by Robert Lacey.
Yes, it was very interesting!

Nina | 6069 comments Interesting review and I think I read the same book. You might like the audio bio but perhaps you've read enough.

message 998: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I like audio versions when my eyes get tired.
But I think I absorb more when I read, rather than listen.
