I actually liked the movie, "Dr. Ziavago," I know I misspelled it, equally as well as the book but mostly I agree the movies aren't as good.

Just saw an old movie starring Edward G, Robinson, Bogart and Anne Southern, "Brother Orchid," that was made in 1940/and that is when I saw it. I was thirteen and was staying overnight in Dallas, TX. I wondered if I'd remember any of it and all I did remember was he was in monastery. Actually, it was pretty good as a period of the times.
I enjoyed reading the comments. Actually I enjoyed watching the movie from the perspectives of a thirteen year old and a ninety year old. How often can you do that?

Movies; "The Darkest Hour," was getting rave reviews so I watched it last night. It was good, I thought but not as great as I had anticipated. Almost too many long speeches to keep my attention; however someone on Good reads recommended "Shining Through," and both my husband and I thought it excellent.
"Shining Through" (1992)"An American woman of Irish, Jewish-German parentage goes undercover in Nazi Germany."
Stars: Michael Douglas, Melanie Griffith, Liam Neeson

Sounds like a great cast, Nina.
" John Gielgud ... AS ... Sunflower "https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105391/
Here's a picture of him: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&a...
Oh yes. WIKI SAYS: . "Gielgud had the rare distinction of winning an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Tony. He was famous from the start of his career for his voice and his mastery of Shakespearean verse."
You always come up with such interesting data on actors. Thanks for that info. I hadn't realized how many awards he was given, well deserved. I recommended that movie. It was gripping. I almost cried in parts.

Mary - agree!

Mary - seen them all. Growing up we had the records from these movies as well. Got pretty worn out!!
Last night watch on Netflix, "Wish You Well"My husband said I found a movie by one of the authors you like - David Baldacci.
Starring Josh Lucas and Ellen Burstyn (great actress)
Set in Virginia. Panoramic shots of the fields at fall time. Beautiful.
Little boy who plays Oz has the most adorable face. Young girl and her brother due to a tragedy go to live with their grandmother played by Ellen Burstyn in Virginia.
Movie is good. Don't want to have any spoilers - so I will just say there were loose spots in the movie - such as when someone was ill no one stayed to care for them - they all went out for the day as usual.

Enjoyable - beautiful scenery.
Thanks for the link, Linda.Wish You Well BY David Baldacci
Adapted to film: "Filmed entirely in beautiful southwest Virginia, Wish You Well stars Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama), Mackenzie Foy (The Twilight Saga, Interstellar) and Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn."
Here's the Amazon page for "Wish You Well".https://www.amazon.com/Wish-You-Well-...
"A tragic accident forces Lou and her brother Oz to move from New York to live with their great grandmother on a farm in Virginia. Their family is threatened to be torn apart again when a coal company tries to steal their land. "
Sounds good so I'll check it out on Netflex. Saw "A Dog in Flanders" and the photography was excellent. It is worth your time to check this one out as it is almost like being in Belgium..Such beautiful colors.;good story also.
Nina, I searched IMDb for "A Dog in Flanders".I found 5 different movies called "A Dog of Flanders".
See the links below:

I had no idea there were five movies. The one we saw was the third one on your list staring Donald Crisp.
Thanks, Nina. I'll repeat the link:A Dog of Flanders (1960)

"The emotional story of a boy, his grandfather, and his dog. The boy's dream of becoming a great classical painter appears shattered when his loving grandfather dies."
Stars: David Ladd, Donald Crisp, Theodore Bikel
Sometimes movies are worth watching just because of the scenery and location. "A Dog of Flanders" is going on my list. Thanks Nina and Joy.
Watched "Follow Me Boys," about the boy Scouts last night and wondered about the girls entering this group of boys. I think my two boys would not have been in favor even though they had four sisters.. Could that be the reason?
"Follow Me, Boys! is a 1966 family film produced by Walt Disney Productions. It is an adaptation of the 1954 novel God and My Country by MacKinlay Kantor...FROM: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Follow_...!

Just watched, "A Room with a View," again after not seeing it for many years and so good; Maggie Smith and Judy Dench and others are great actors.
Watching another old movie; "Funny Girl" and it was good. Isn't Omar Shariff the most handsome man ever? Good acting and interesting story that I saw years ago but didn't remember much of it.
"Funny Girl" was a good movie. I like Barbra Streisand with Robert Redford in "The Way We Were" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070903/...
Saw this in movie theatre on a date - had to be the last ones to leave because I cried so very hard. Didn't even want my date to see me but alas at one point I had to get up. Hid my face when we got to the lobby. Then, it was nighttime so I didn't have to be concerned. (I'm fair skinned and my face gets red and blotchy when I have a deep cry.)
Watching old movies with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly and had forgotten how young they once looked. But, didn't we all?
Yes, those old movies with Sinatra and Kelly were so entertaining. Loved the music and the dancing. Frank Sinatra danced pretty welll!
Last night the most memorable song was , "Time After Time, and of course my husband's favorite from the night before was "Anchors Away," and no wonder as he was in the Navy.
Joy, the Chanel book title follows; "Mademoiselle Chanel: A novel" by C. W. Cortner In spite of the mistake it really was a good fascinating book with many characters you would be familiar with in case you want to check it out.
Just watched a good movie based on real life and filmed in the autumn in VA. The characters well done and beautiful setting and very good premise. After a tragedy, the two children and their comatose mother move to a farm in VA that belongs to their great grandmother. Later on a coal company tries to get the farm away from her by cunning almost criminal tactics.
