The NYT magazine gave a lengthy review of the new version of "Anne of Green Gables," and not sure I'll like it. Focuses somewhat on her abusive past and supposedly updated. I'll wait and see. they said this original book transcends time unlike many other children's books of it's era.

Watched many times, "It Happened One Night," and then once again last night and this time actually looked at Claudette Colbert's facial expressions and she was amazing. No wonder she won the Oscar. The first movie to win all five Oscars and not another one until "A Cuckoo Flew Over the Bird Nest," and then on other won all five the "Hannibal movie" and I forgot the entire title. Just some trivia

We saw "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" last night & went to dinner. James & Lauren bought us dinner while Erin & Josh took us to the movie, our big celebration for our 35th wedding anniversary. The movie was a lot of fun, but a far different story line than the cartoon took. Star Lord's father was well played by Kurt Russell, perfect for the part.

Watched Rogue One recently. Besides the first Star Wars movie, I believe that was episode 4, I liked this one more than the others. Perhaps it was that it was more like the first one. Last night my wife and I watched La La Land. 2/3 rds through I was not sure what to make of it, but the last third drew me in.

I watched "La La Land". Then I skimmed through some reviews at:

First of all, who has time to read the long reviews linked above?

Second of all, I can only give my own impression, without all the complicated considerations in the reviews. I thought there was great chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. There was a little too much music and not enough plot for my taste. The plot was nostalgic in a sad way. As one review suggested, the theme was romance versus ambition, indicating the sacrifices that performers make to attain success.

I enjoyed the dancing scenes between Gosling and Stone. There are a lot of "dreamy" scenes which the viewer must interpret in order to get the gist of the real plot. Parts of the movie were on the sad side and I wasn't ready for that.

I found the movie to be a very unusual presentation, not a straightforward story, more of a musical with surrealistic scenes.

All in all, I enjoyed seeing Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a couple.

Thanks for the birthday wishes and I'll pass them along to my husband. Last year when he reached ninety was the big celebrtion with out of town visitors etc. Yet, yesterday his cousins were in town from Milwaukee so I had them all over to lunch and he enjoyed being with them and it was like a pre-celilbration. My husband is originally from MIlwaukee WI.

Tonight we are going with a friend to a local hamburger establishment that has been here since 1940. It was one of the first drive in's in the country when it opened and I went there as a teen ager. Of course it is no longer a drive in but still has wonderful hamburgers and thick milkshakes which he loves. This hamburger place is located at the entrance of our Plaza shopping area which was the first outdoor shopping establishment in the US. Enough history. Thanks for listening.
