Emma is possibly one of the most loyal characters of Austen, always wanting better for those around her and doing all she possibly can to make it happen. Her motives sometimes get in the way of her good intentions and her own opinions can end up ruling her actions, but she has a good heart. She loves to be social and is welcoming to most, unless they are too silly to tolerate. While she sometimes changes her behavior to make others feel comfortable, she knows who she is and is always bettering herself.

As Marianne's older sister, Elinor lives at the other end of the emotional spectrum. She rarely reveals her intense feelings and is more concerned with being honest and loyal than having what she deserves. Even though her intentions are pure, she sets herself up for loss by constantly placing other people before her own needs. Overall, Elinor is gentle and rational but is just as capable of radical emotions (despite her withholding them) as her sister.

Hey Lyndsay! Thanks for posting! This quiz is very fun and tends to make people think. I was a "tie" with the tie-breaker question leaning to Ms. Bennet. Good fun and thanks for sharing your results! Nice to "see" you!

I mostly agree with my results. I have always thought that I am like Marianne Dashwood just maybe not as outgoing as her. I am like Emma too, I like setting people up. I think everyone can relate to Elizabeth in one way or another. Fun quiz!

I am a little concerned about the total absence of Anne Elliotts and Fanny Prices. It can't just be that there are no women out there gentle enough (Anne) or passive enough (Fanny)to count. Do you think maybe the person who developed the quiz hasn't read Persuasion or Mansfield Park?
I would say I'm like Elinor Dashwood or Elizabeth Bennet (as is everyone else it seems)
And wow, I just realized this is a really old thread! Why is my Goodreads telling me these are new posts? That's confusing.

Kim, I haven't read Persuasion and I've noticed most people read Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and maybe Mansfield Park. At least, that's what I've learned by talking to others.
Plus Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility both have movie adaptations. Maybe that influences something?

It is a pretty old thread, but I only just got around to looking at it! I think that both Lizzie and Elinor are women with personalities that 21st century young women can identify with. Anne Elliott and Fanny Price - not so much.
Elisa - you really should read Persuasion when you have the chance. It is absolutely my favourite Jane Austen and pretty much my favourite novel full-stop! Although not as sparkling as P and P or Emma, it is very romantic and very funny in parts and contains quite the most beautiful letter in literature.
Kim, I think you're right. Most women these days marry for love and follow their passions because they can. Prudence and logic isn't exactly the young adult motto.
I will have to look into that for sure. Add it to my list of Austen books to read before I die. Haha.

As someone who would rather see the good in people, Jane is a true pacifist and caregiver. At times, her shy temperament and naive outlook of people can land her in a compliant position, but those who know her love her for her positive spirit and cheerful view of what surrounds her.
