Stephen (smellincoffee) As 2015 winds down, what books on spirituality, church history, etc. most affected you?

"The Seven Deadly Sins" by Kevin Vost proved to be one of my more insightful reads, though for author-induced bliss, C.S. Lewis' "The Weight of Glory" is unmatched. I also read a couple of books by Scott Hahn -- "Consuming the Word" and "The Lamb's Supper". One quite interesting book was "The Way", by an Eastern Orthodox author, on the fundamental problems of Protestantism.

In church history, I read "Early Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism", which I do not remember much about, and Phillip Jenkins' "The Lost History of Christianity", which alleges to be about the Church in Asia, Africa, and the middle east, but which is really about the decline of Nestorianism in the wake of Islam. The book is mostly about the middle east.

Jessica (jessical1961) I read Rome Sweet Home: Our Journey to Catholicism by Scott and Kimberly Hahn, If Protestantism is True by Devin Rose and My Journey to the Land of More by Leona Choy.

Right now I am readingAnswering the New Atheism: Dismantling Dawkins' Case Against God by Scott Hahn. It is an answer to Richard Dawkins book The God Delusion which has apparently been very popular on college campuses and has been instrumental in many Christians, including many Catholics, losing their faith. Answering the New Atheism pick apart Dawkins arguments piece by piece without resorting to scripture. The reason being that Dawkins does not believe in God and based on his works it would have been a waste of time to argue with him based on scripture since he would simply dismiss the arguements out of hand.

You can find a shorter answer to Dawkins book in my blog:

Jessica (jessical1961) Is it more authoritative than the book by Scott Hahn?

Of course not! But it is much shorter and easier to get.

I am totally persuaded that my friend Alfonseca and the big apologetic writer Scott Hahn have writen an excellent reply to Richard Dawkins.

Not sure what you mean by easier to get, but I am having no trouble understanding the book. When I finish it I will go to your blog and read your response to Dawkins. Looking forward to it.

I just meant that it's easier to read a short post in a blog than buy a book and read it! I wasn't speaking for you, who already have the book and are reading it, but for others who may be interested.

Happy New Year!
