Greetings, and welcome to the new - and I think improved - reading challenge for 2016!

Here are a few general guidelines for participating in this group. We don't have strict rules for how one should work on the challenge because frankly, that just sets everyone up for failure. We are a friendly, relaxed group where everyone is welcome to share their reading discoveries and challenge progress through the year, without competition or pressure.

1. Work on the challenge in any order you like.

2. As you read books from the various categories, add a new topic under that category for your title. Start a new post and select the appropriate folder. Check to see if there's already a thread for your title, and add to it instead of starting a new thread. But don't worry if you create a new thread for a book that's already there - nobody will be upset.

3. The app is sometimes sketchy. If possible, double-check your posts from a computer now and then to make sure they're in the right folder. If not, check the "Orphans" folder.

4. Feel free to start a conversation in the Side Topics folder (new for 2016!). This is for you to get to know each other beyond the reading categories.

5. Be kind to one another. The diversity and international representation of this group is fantastic! Sharing a passion for reading is one of the better ways I know to bridge cultural gaps.

6. Lurk if you wish. All are welcome, even if you only read one book of the challenge!

7. Participate in discussions when you feel like it.

Have fun!

Justme Are there any tips for finding your post among half a dozen or more? (I've already memorized my #, but it takes a LOT of pg downs to get there.

Justme Thanks so much; I'm off to try that!

Frogli | 118 comments @ Adriana I've only added links but I assume they are using html.

if you look at the comment box on the top right it says (some html is ok) click that and it gives you a few of the common ones

message 7: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) Yeah, some basic html tags. Google it for how to use it.

At the bottom right of your comments you should see an "edit" button along with "reply" and "delete."

Thankyou! I was looking at the top right, not bottom right.

Judy Question: if I started a book last year but finish it this year, can I count it? I've got a few that are hanging...

message 13: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) I'm gonna do that. It's your/my own list after all :)

Yes! I did that too.

Roberta Parry I'm brand new to Goodreads. Just joined the group; it looks like the right one for me. But I can't do my widget 'cause I don't understand how. Which hmtl do I choose and why, what does it do? As you can tell, I do not have a computer gene. I don't even know how to get a different picture in where the stack of books are. I think I'm doing good just to have got this far. Kind souls help me. Thanks.

Looks like you solved the picture problem! You may not have the computer gene but you're ahead of me 'cause I don't even know what a widget is,

message 17: by Roberta (new)

Roberta Parry I don't know what a widget is either, Judy. And I have no idea how I solved the problem of getting my photo up. It just happened, as far as I can tell. Being brand new to Goodreads, may I recommend a good book for you: KILLING TIME, by Roberta Parry. Take a read of Elyse's review. Elyse Walters, that is. She's a fantastic reviewer and person!

Nihar Suthar (niharsuthar) Hi everybody! I'm joining this group a bit late unfortunately (almost towards the end of 2016...haha!), but I hope to be able to read some books and discuss with you all. Looking forward to it :)

Tracy (mickeycat) | 6 comments HI all - I am a regular lurker around here. I have challenged myself to 75 books the past 5 years and love every page. At this time, I *should* know this, but I don't...a couple times a year I get a Goodreads email that has a widget imbedded that posts fun personal stats - like the number of pages you've read total for the year, etc. (a personal zeitgeist, you could say). I can't figure out how to find this page for myself. I think it will be motivating for me to see how many individual page turns I've put in this year (5 more books to go before the end of the month!)
Thank you!
Tracy (Mickeycat)

message 22: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) On the home page (not the app) go to your books page. Up in the right corner there should be a link called stats or something like that. Go nuts!

I can't believe I didn't know this sooner! Thank you for sharing this information.

THANK YOU!!!! :-)

message 25: by Sharmon (new)

Sharmon (tpgirl) I love the stats! I love to see the number of pages for each year compared with the number of books. I also like using the duplicates to get rid of books that are in my to-read/read as duplicates.

message 26: by Pat (new)

Pat | 2 comments Will the 2017 challenge post statistics to our home page like the 2015/2016 challenges? For example, percent complete, ahead or behind in our reading challenge?

message 27: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) No, that's GoodReads' own challenge.
