2 men: a priest and a man who lives/learns through traveling round.

Gosh, I'm not sure when written. I'd like to say early 70s, but may go back to a few decades earlier in its first print.

I'm even having trouble remembering what time period the book was in…maybe medieval? Definitely based in Europe. Book has 2 men who learn and live through very different methods - one ascetic/one life

It's not Kipling. The book was first written sometime between the 1930s-early 1970s. I believe it's an English or American author, though I could be wrong. There was a school in the book, if I remember correctly. That's all I can remember, but I am wanting to find that book again…sigh...
