Danielle Peterson | 9 comments The cover: I remember it having a castle in the back ground, there is a white stag coming out of the surrounding forest and there is a young girl riding upon his back.

The story: It follows a young girl, she is transported to this magical medieval like world with castles, royalty, talking animals, and all that. She's in danger for some reason and is just wanting to find her way home.
She eventually meets up with a white stag that can talk. He's snarky to her and sometimes rude. They form a friendship though, mainly because they both can help each other, to get home she's going somewhere and something he wants is also there but he can't get it himself, things along that anyway.

I thought this book was called "The White Stag" but the only book I can find of that name is the wrong one that is the "mythical retelling that follows the warrior bands of Huns and Magyars across Asia and into Europe."

{[ SPOILER ]}
The White Stag turns out to be a prince who was cursed. Him and the girl fall in love or at least very close friends.

Danielle, around what year did you read this book?

Where was the heroine before she transported to this fantasy world?

How did she get transported?

Bonnie | 291 comments How about this one. Sounds like what you've described.

Here's a book cover image similar to what you described.

Danielle Peterson | 9 comments @Kirs: This was back in about 1999 to maybe early 2000-2001?
I really don't remember where the girl was before she was transported. I don't want to start saying "Maybe this" and it's a different book I am remembering! :(

@Bonnie: I don't think it was this one. I'll check it out though!

Ket | 163 comments The book you are describing is exactly the plot and characterization present in Into the Land of the Unicorns.

*Girl transported into medieval world
*Is being hunted
*Befriended by talking animals
*Found by snarky back-talking unicorn
*Who is actually a prince among unicorns
*Has to travel to get back to her world
*Unicorn travels with her and she helps him get where he's going too

If possibly the unicorn became a stag in memory, it's uncanny. Only thing missing is a transformation into a human prince at the end, though. Hope this may at least bring you closer if it isn't the match.

Danielle, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments The bit about the girl riding a stag on the cover and the stag being a prince fits Midori Snyder's Soulstring but Ket's suggestion sounds like a better match plotwise. Could you have read either/both of these and blurred them in memory?

Shannon (epeolatrist) | 3 comments Just happened upon this post and I posted a question four years ago about what I think might be the same book:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I got similar answers. I think Soulstring or Gleaming Bright might be the answer.
