Clara 1-Jaime and Company are watching what the war has left. They are in Maidenpool, in which pool it was said Florian saw Jonquil for the first time, which I forgot. The water had a grey.green color because of the dead, and it’s awful. The burn lands reminded Jaime of Aerys. I forgot how much he thinks of Aerys.

2-It seems Jaime and Cersei started quite young. They saw horses and dogs and did the same, I don’t want to imagine how young they were. Joanna’s maid saw them and told their mother. Jaime’s bedchamber was moved far away, and their mother told them to never do it again, or else she’ll tell their father. She died not long after that, and Jaime didn’t remember how she looked. Again, I don’t want to think how young they were he doesn’t remember her face.

3-Jaime wonders why he can’t marry Cersei, when the Targaryens did no one stopped them. I mean, he has a point, but I remember people often said they fall because they married each other. I totally forgot he thought Joffrey and Myrcella could get married as well, and I don’t agree at all. If he wants to fuck his sister is one thing, but why his kids have to do the same? But he did think it would be to prove the Lannisters were above people’s laws, so maybe he thought it because it would be amusing. Still, I don’t agree.

4-Jaime would return Sansa, not to prove his honor, but because it would be amusing to keep his word when everyone though he wouldn’t. He has a sense of humor I really like I have to say. But I do like he would sent the girl back.

5-Arrows were falling on them, Cleos hit the ground with his head, and Brienne had an arrow in her back and one in her leg and was still ahorse. She didn’t seem to be hurt, she’s so badass! Jaime charged and she went as well. The archer run, as Jaime knew he would. He seems to know how they fight, and he does not like them at all.

6-Ser Cleos was dead, and Jaime wanted his horse, clothes and swords. He said she needed him to be armed to do the watches. As usual, she said no, and told them to step back from his cousin. He was tired of her in general, but I think it really bothered him she didn’t trust him at all. So, he took Cleos’ sword, and they started to fight. He felt alive again, he was meant to fight. Brienne was not bad at all, so much he couldn’t say how long they fought. She cut him above his eye, him in her leg. He knew he was rusted after all the time he spent in Riverrun, and he really pissed a woman was stronger than he was. He could take other men were, but not women. I don’t think he ever knew a woman who fought at all, but I think he was surprised as well.

7-Brienne told him to yield, but he would not do so. They rolled and kick each other, she told Jaime to yield or she would drown him, but when he asked her if she will break her oath of keeping him safe like he broke his, she stopped. And they heard a laugh. Jaime said he was chastising his wife, but the man thought it was the other way around. Jaime could tell he lacked his nose, and he was seeing the Brave Companions. When Brienne offered the stags, Rorge said he would take them and then rape her. He is as disgusting as I remembered in this part.

8-Urswyck, who was the man in charge, recognised Jaime. He said Vargo would be pleased to see him, he was now Lord of Harrenhal. Of course, Jaime didn’t knew things changed, and asked them to take his chains off. They told him they served Lord Bolton and Robb. When they hit Jaime, Brienne said Catelyn sent her in a misión, they didn’t give a shit and hit her as well. They clearly don’t serve Robb.

9-Jaime was sorry for Brienne, he knew she would lose her maidenhood that night, and probably quite a few brothers will rape her. He told Brienne not to fight, and when he asked what would he do if he was a woman, he thought he’d be Cersei, but said he would ask them to kill him. I think at this point she respects her way more than he did before, and I don’t think he wants them to rape her.

10-Jaime told Urswyck to take him to King’s Landing and claim the ransom, he would get a royal pardon, and make him a knight. He also said Brienne was highborn, from the Sapphire Islands. But this Urswyck knew Tywin would be resentful for what they did, he slapped Jaime, and he realised the man didn’t fear him. And that terrified him. Urswyck said he was an oathbreaker, and didn’t believe him. It always went back to Aerys.

11-Brienne said the Sapphire Islands were called like that for the color of the water, but Jaime said it was better if they thought she was rich, and it was a smart thing to say. They found Vargo Hoat, who was wearing a chain of linked coins, and Jaime could tell he was greedy, and thought he could turn him again. I always thought Vargo was one of the worst characters, he just likes to hurt people everytime he gets the chance.

12-Vargo said he wanted to send a message to Tywin, his men grabbed Jaime, and he thought they just wanted to scare him. They put his arms in front of him, and the Dothraki had his arakh. Jaime thought he would not scream, he was a Lannister, but when that blade went down, he did screamed. Man, what an ending!

Half of Maidenpool’s town was burned and is left abandoned, but the castle still stands. Of course Jaime bursts out in song. Brienne, and even his cousin, tells him to be quiet; Maidenpool is sword to Riverrun and they don’t need him alerting them with his bantering. They’re just passing through to get to Duskendale.

2. Lady Joanna was Jaime and Cersei’s mother. Once she caught them sexually fooling around when they were little. Horrified, she separated them into different bedrooms on far ends of the castle and made them swear never to do that again or she’d tell their father. That seems a bit harsh, if you ask me. I can’t help but wonder if she thought of Aerys Targaryen when this happened. Young kids play and explore themselves all the time. It doesn’t have to mean anything; they’re learning. However, they did develop strong feelings for each other anyway. A bit of a Targaryen trait. Maybe Joanna feared her husband would think they weren’t his. King Aerys wanted her bad; that’s no secret. He publicly announced it at a tourney once.

3. Jaime would love to marry Cersei. The rumors are going around about them so it wouldn’t be a shocker. Interesting he muses over Joffrey marrying Myrcella. It’s like he wants to be a Targaryen.

4. I really like how he decides he wants to return Sansa, and Arya if they can find her, not out of the goodness of his heart but because it amuses him how no one would expect him to keep his word. At this point Jaime still doesn’t seem to care about anything, other than his sister and brother.

5. They are attacked from behind. Brienne is a beast. They charge the archers in the fields, who break away and run off. Brienne asks how he knew they’d run and he says archers always run when they’re in danger of being plowed down by knights on horses. Seemed gutsy; I would have thought they’d shoot the horses down for sure. Ser Cleos had disappeared on his spooked horse so they have to go find him. Turns out he died; the horse dragged his head along the ground till it became mush. Lovely. He seemed an expendable character, lol. Jaime wants his possessions with seemingly no feelings for his cousin. He has too many cousins, he tells Brienne when she stares at him in shock.

6. Brienne keeps telling him she will not arm him so he takes Ser Cleos’ sword and they fight, Jaime still in chains around his hands. He is arrogant and thinks he can win. She reminds him she will not harm him. She swore a vow. They fight on until he loses strength, realizing she’s better than him. She keeps telling him to yield but he is too stubborn. They put up a pretty good fight.

7. Suddenly they have an audience. Armed men surround them in the forest. Lol, Jaime says he was just chastising his wife and one of the men says it looks like she was the one chastising him. One of them is Rorge; it’s the Brave Companions, uh oh. They aren’t the same men who shot arrows at them from before. Brienne says she has a hundred stags, thinking she can buy their way out of this. They joke about raping her and how ugly she is, of course. It’s Rorge. Even Jaime doesn’t think she deserves to get raped by these men.

8. They know who Jaime is, despite how awful he looks. A man named Urswyck leads the party. He calls himself the Faithful. Somehow I doubt that. Jaime thinks they still belong to his father, but they belong to Bolton now, which is worse. It is just like Tywin to call his soldiers dogs. Jaime says Brienne is highborn and should make them a good ransom. He doesn’t like the look in Urswyck’s eyes, though. Urswyck chuckles when Jaime asks them to cut his chains off, and Jaime’s surprised his father would give Vargo Hoat Harrenhal. He doesn’t realize what’s going on here till it’s too late. They tell him they belong to Bolton now and seize them.

9. Brienne tries to tell them they were set free by Catelyn Stark and he’s under her protection, but they take her too. Jaime feels sorry for Brienne, who is sure to have a rough night. He whispers to her that she’s going to get raped and to not fight it. It’s really nice of him to lie for her. He didn’t have to do that. Moments ago he was trying to kill her and now he’s trying to save her maidenhood, lol. He tells Urswyck to take them to King’s Landing instead for a bigger ransom pay and to leave Brienne unspoiled, because Tarth is rich and her father would pay him handsomely in sapphires, but only if she’s unharmed.

10. Vargo Hoat is sacking a sept, omg, lol. These mummers just don’t give a flying fuck. Brienne tries to treat with him but he wants her silenced. Luckily Urswyck believed Jaime and says to be easy on her; she’s worth a lot. I forgot Vargo Hoat has a coin necklace, coins from every land he’s ever fought in. Makes him seem more fearsome instead of ridiculous. This man is greedy and likely to switch sides like the sellsword he is. Jaime now tries to treat with him. Vargo says he will have his father’s money, so he must send him a “message.”

11. They hold him down. Jaime thinks they mean to scare him and he vows not to scream, but he does anyway. I forgot it doesn’t say what they did at the end of this chapter, but it is so shocking. The show did a pretty good job with this scene, I thought, and is one I could never forget. It changes everything for Jaime Lannister.

Clara About your point 2, I didn't know Aerys said he wanted Joanna in a tourney. I bet Tywin did not like it at all.

I really liked too how Jaime lied, he clearly doesn't want them to hurt her.

About your point 11, I thought the chapter ended telling what happened as well. And I really like the scene in the show, I don't think I'll forget it either.

Vicki Kalb | 310 comments My point 2, it's mentioned in The World of Ice and Fire. :)
