What does your name mean? It makes me think of cinnamon tushies.

message 1202: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Cincinnatus is a name.

message 1203: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Is that like a cinnamon bun, Sally?

I thought the name had something to do with Cincinnati maybe.

message 1206: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments maybe a and b were already taken.

But one known primarily for his willingness to relinquish power for the good of the nation.

Yes. That's the most likely explanation.

Félix (habitseven) janine wrote: "i've read five words total of that wiki page."

The first five, or five random words?

message 1211: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments janine wrote: "i've read five words total of that wiki page."

Cincinnatus was an important figure in the rhetoric of U.S. government and politics, early in the republic, because Washington could probably have retained power indefinitely had he wished, but like Cincinnatus he retired to his farm, etc, etc. That's really the only context in which I've ever heard the name.

What, asscheeks? After seven hours they get chilly too. I'm more into sitting here in the semilight of dawn watching Leah watch the glowing christmas tree from her exersaucer.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments Sister Mary Alisa, 3 yrs of Latin. I read "The Aeneid" in the original. Sister would be proud that I recalled Cincinnatus from what is now my ancient history.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments reputable is a matter of opinion. Rudy's Beauty College does not require any foreign language

message 1228: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments Is that where you went,Kevin? I went to this tiny, liberal arts college in my home town that required 2 yrs of Latin, 2 yrs of modern foreign language, 3yrs of math, 4 yrs of english & 3 yrs of history just to get your application accepted and read.

So then Michigan State's not reputable? That explains a lot...

Neither is the University of Akron, apparently.

*will happily hang out in the disreputable section of TC*

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments Clark, what year did you go to Michigan State? A lot of colleges dropped arbitrary requirements in the 70's.

Oh, Cincinnatus is a name alright, albeit not mine. It's that of a character from my favourite novel- Invitation to a Beheading

Wow, impressive. I studied Latin for two forgettable years, but still wouldn't have known the name Cincinnatus if it weren't for Vladimir Nabokov

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i'm sick of joe morgan although i am still impressed that he used the smallest fielding glove since the 30's. his glove was like wearing a leather mitten. davey and tonyP were my guys. i read bench's autobiography and he sounded like a conceited jerk.
