I am reading both "Big Little Lies" and the "The Husbands Secret" by Australian author Liane Moriarty.Other suggestions:
The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
The Man from Snowy River by Elyne Mitchell
A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute
This one will be a bit hard for me. I don't think I have a book on my tbr list that either takes place in Australia or was written by an Australian author, but I'll search a little bit more and hopefully will come out with something. I could try out some of the suggestions that will end up here, but I'll give my list another go first.
I read quite a lot of Australian fiction and thought this category might leave people scratching their heads, wondering what to read. I'll leave a few suggestions here. Just about anything by Tim Winton (Cloudstreet, Dirt Music, Breath all good places to start)
The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan
Past the Shallows by Favel Parrett
The Slap /Barracuda by Christos Tsiolkas
A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz
Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey
All That I Am by Anna Funder
The Life by Malcolm Knox
Hope that helps!
Edited with further thoughts!
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Seven Types of Ambiguity by Eliot Perlman
Bruce Courtenay also counts as Australian
As does Clive James
Bliss by Peter Carey

I'll be reading 'Here Come The Dogs' by Omar Musa for this one. Been meaning to read this book for a long time, but haven't got around to it. This seems like a great opportunity!
A film has been made about the book too.
Though the circumstances may be depressing, I found it uplifting overall.
Tracks by Robyn Davidson. For some reason the cover will not come up.
A film has been done on this one too.
This was not very hard for me since I haven´t yet read my sister in law´sLizzy Chandlers newly published second novel By Her Side
AsI am in two minds about this, I would choose The Light Between Oceans by M L Steadman, which I think would also be a possible option for " book about the sea/set by the sea", and would also tick the entry "a book that takes place on an island" on the Popsugar 2016 list, which I am also doing. It is also being made into a movie this year. Perfect option. But I am also contemplating In My Father's Den , by Maurice Gee. I've seen the movie and I loved it. It would also fit that category too
I was having problems deciding on the entry for "book about the sea or set by the sea", so I am going to tweak my selections a bit and read The Light Between Oceans as the entry for that category and restore to Lianne Moriarty for the Australia category.
I'm reading Aussie Grit, F1 pilot Mark Webber's autobiography. I'm about 1/3 and I'm really enjoying it.
John Marsden - Tomorrow When the War BeganMelina Marchetta - Looking for Alibrandi, On the Jellicoe Road
Jaclyn Moriarty - Finding Cassie Crazy
Garth Nix - Sabriel
Anna Funder - All That I Am
Markus Zusak - The Book Thief
I could keep going, theres heaps of Aussie authors out there, these are just a few and the books I liked best of theirs. Being Australian myself these were some of the authors I grew up reading so theres quite a few YA authors there but that could fit with the YA category too :)
Theres also a few more who I havent read but are likely to have something good
Jackie French - she's written over 140 books! Sure to be something that suits
Di Morrissey - Aussie author and her books are set in Australia
Richard Flanagan - Man Booker winner - The Narrow Road to the Deep North
Also Shaun Tan! He only does picture books as far as I know so they may not really fit in with the challenge but they're beautiful and worth a look anyway :)
