I've always wanted to read that one Veronica but haven't gotten round to it yet. Thanks! :)

Planet of the Apes is not available at all at my library, and I don't want to pay $8 for it. Tarzan has 4 people ahead of me on the waitlist. It looks like I'm going with The Little Princess for this one.

For those who listen to audiobooks, there's a decent free audio recording of it available on Librivox as well.

Would you say that Royce and Hadrian are anti-heroes? I think Riyiria Revelations #2 may fit for Deadshot #3... Thanks for input!

Royce at least is, I think. I found a GR list of anti-hero books and found a couple already on my to-read list. But I don't know if I'll have time to get to them.

I'm at a complete loss too.

Well, here's my thought. Landspeeders and hovertrucks and the like are, essentially, hovercraft. If there's a difference, it's semantic. So I'm going with a Star Wars book for that one.

I'm reading Beat for another category, but it has hovercraft-type vehicles.

I have books with airships and one with a mechanical dragon. I am wondering if that qualifies.

That is an excellent idea Wayland. I think I will do the same if I can get around to the villain this coming month.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments Anyone know if there are landspeeders in Chuck Wendig's Aftermath? Though I suppose I could just reread the novelization of the first movie.

Wayland Smith | 3545 comments Mod
I read that a while back. I THINK so, but I'm not 100%

message 118: by Greg (new)

Greg | 1464 comments Ironically, there's several hovercar rides in last month's selection Cinder, but I'm not sure if I want to read the second book in the series right away.

Does anyone have ideas other than Star Wars novels? Maybe something classic sci-fi?

message 119: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments Thanks, Wayland. I found an article by Entertainment Weekly from a year ago that posted a few pages. Air speeders are mentioned. Don't know if they qualify but surely landspeeders can't be far behind. :-)

I'm open to non-Star Wars novels too, Greg. I'm very much a mood reader so I always like to have options. Tough category!

I'm hoping that flying/hovering vechicles count then I'm going to readThe Honor of the Queen

Pretty sure they actually move around on a floating disc in Endymion, although that's book 3 in the series.

Maybe the vehicles in Dune? I can't quite remember what those were like.

message 124: by Greg (new)

Greg | 1464 comments Great suggestions Audrey & Rinn!

I already read & liked Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion; so Endymion might be perfect! But I haven't read Dune yet either, and that's definitely on my to-read list too! Both these choices are definitely up my alley - thanks!!

I still have Hyperion on my to-read list. Maybe I'll have to look at Star Wars.

I get that, but if he says no on the Star Wars stuff, he's really being overly picky IMHO. Since he's always been very reasonable on these, I'm banking on him saying yes.

That looks like a hovercraft to me.

Kate (kgskocelas) | 474 comments Audrey wrote: "Maybe the vehicles in Dune? I can't quite remember what those were like. "

The closest thing in the Dune books would be the ornithopters, but the book versions have fast beating wings like a dragonfly, so I'm not sure if that manor of hovering would count?

Star Wars speeder bikes and snowspeeders are listed as examples on the hovercraft wikipedia page, so I'd say you're good to go.

I forgot to mention that Beat has hovercraft vehicles, and Space Knight does, too. I picked them to count for other categories.

Pretty sure guns are used in Red Rising, if not in the first book then definitely by the second :)
