You pick a team, Marvel or DC. Then you read books that meet the criteria for the heroes. Like for Nova's first book, the requirement is
1. Nova Corps
Read a book with a soldier on the cover or where the main character is a soldier.. So any book about a soldier as the main character that you read in 2016 would count for Nova's first book. Does that help any?

This week was a busy one and Team Marvel decided it by 10 points increasing their lead.
Joy led the Marvelites into the fray and recruited Blade, Black Panther and Agent Coulson. Shawnie and Kate both delivered beatings for White Rabbit, with Shawnie also adding Thor to her team. Thor was also recruited by Nara. Other recruitments included Blade by Mark, Iron Fist by Sam and Ms. Marvel by Brendan.
White Rabbit got more beatings by Team DC, where she was defeated by Dawn, Milou, Christina and Melanie. Dawn also recruited Atom to her squad. Veronica was busy as well and added Alfred and Black Canary to her team.
And as next Sunday is already the beginning of May, let's introduce our new villain of the month. This time around it's going to be Aquaman's nemesis Black Manta who comes with 1 or 2 tricky challenges. As always, you can find him in the villain post at the beginning of this thread, the seperate villains/portal heroes thread or right here, down below. Have fun figuring out your reads to defeat him! :)
Black Manta
Active from 01/05/2016 - 31/05/2016

1. The Black Manta
Read a book with "black" or "manta" in the title or which has a fish in it. (Doesn't need to be a talking one, can just be a pet)
2. Conquest of Atlantis
Read a book with a siege battle on the cover or where Atlantis is one of the locations the characters visit.
3. Serum
Read a book with a syringe on the cover or where people get a shot of serum/vaccine/antidote.

Which one are you referring to? Stranger and Uprooted both seem fine to me. Is there an issue we might run into that I'm not aware of?

Oh, the one from the Mod special. I see. As I like to keep it clean and simple we're handling this the same way as the last time there was a third book and stick to the two books that were originally nominated by the group.
Let us see if we stick to the bi-monthly schedule and if this is something that is reliable we include it in next year's challenge, but for now I don't want to mess with the point curve that I hopefully predicted correctly for the Energy Cells. I don't want to hit the goals for the Portal Heroes too soon by adding more books that can score points towards them.

I was hoping you would say that. I want to start it straight away, waiting for the first to start it was killing me. I am excited for this one.

Hope you enjoy it. I've read the whole thing and rated the whole series like 19 out of 20 possible stars, only book 3 was "just" a 4 star read for me. Great, great series.

Judgement call?Would siege warfare by air count or does it have the medieval? I'm thinking of this book cover.
Siege warfare is tricky!
What about this one? It looks like siege warfare but you can only see one person, not the army?

Air sieges like bombardments would definitely be in spirit with the challenge and count. :)

I'd like to see a bit more active sieging action.^^ The city could just be on fire. It's kind of hard, cause I've read the book and know that it has a siege in it, but it should be a a bit more action on the cover.
This challenge might just be my cheap way of looking for some good Atlantis based books. :P

Haha! I'd like to find some too... but the question is, will they be as fun as the movie 'Atlantis'? ;)

Well... damn. Still stuck at 1 BOTM then as my streak of "read one of them" continues for the year." And not sure I'll get Gathering of Shadows at this rate, Slow library....

DCThe Dirty Streets of Heaven / Blue Beetle/I'm blue/1 of 3
Book had a blue cover and a character gets wasted drunk
Veronica wrote: "Is this title battle siege-y enough?
"I have no authority, but I'd definitely say yes Veronica! Mpauli even mentioned below that the city should be "on fire" - it is in the picture, looks to me as though by catapults and siege equipment.
