Trisha | 30284 comments I think this will be a very hard but very good one
I read up on the articles about the original crime to remember some of the details. I remember when this crime originally played out in the press. I remember being so so mad.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Oh, I didn't realize that it was based on a crime that happened. What can I google to find out about it?

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Thanks!

Katie | 1999 comments I picked this up from the library today, and it will probably be the next book I read once I finish the one I'm currently so I'll plan on commenting about it on this thread.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Great, Katie!

The book is good so far, but knowing it's loosely based on such a tragic story makes it more difficult reading for me,

My worry(view spoiler)

There are parts of this book that literally give me goosebumps
it's just so awful

Pep rally(view spoiler)

Kate(view spoiler)

and how awful is it? that even I knew...from a very young age, that getting drunk at a party is a bad idea if you don't have friends around you to keep you safe.
How sad is that?

Good point on your Stacey spoiler. Of course that is true, but I hadn't thought to comment on it.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Ch. 30

Two things really hit me in this part of the book: (view spoiler)

Katie | 1999 comments I finished this, and this was a tough book, but really good. It was a really important read, and I think all high schoolers should be required to read it.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments I finished awhile ago too and I don't know that I can really add anything to your final comments, Katie but I'll try. LOL

I agree that this book is a difficult read! Who but by the grace of God could not at some time in their life have been a Stacey? I've been drunk twice in my life, once when I was 16 and once when on my 21st birthday and I HATED it!!! So I've never been a drinker.

Trisha | 30284 comments I'm done too

Stacey(view spoiler)

In real life, 1 boy got 1 year behind bars and went BACK to the high school and played football again

In real life, the 2nd boy only got 2 years in jail and went out and joined a community college football team - he just couldn't live in the dorms because of his sexual assault conviction

So(view spoiler)

I agree with you guys, this was a really tough book to read, but one that is so so important.

My favorite part was the conversation the teacher had when the boy said he didn't want to give a permission slip to ride the bus because he wouldn't want a girl to call rape if she threw herself at him and was wasted and he 'couldn't help himself'

That teacher was dead on.

Katie | 1999 comments I'm glad you guys both liked it too (though "like" is probably the wrong word). But we all think it's an important book.

And yes, that teacher was great with the permission slip thing.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Trisha, YES!!! That was a key scene!
