Barnes often treats death in his fiction and non-fiction and in the final, third, section of this book - beautifully written, almost creating a psalm- he puts up a terrific defence for those who refuse to let the lost one go: talk to him/her if you want, have them sitting with you while you read or watch TV or look at pictures in a gallery. At the end you feel convinced that the Get-over-it, Give it time, Find someone else cohorts are the ones who are out of whack.
