ABANDONED. Clothes dryers send socks and lint via wormholes to planet of tiny horse-like creatures

A few years ago I came across a sci fi story on Librivox and I have since been unable to relocate that story. A crewman throws his clothing into the dryer and causes and explosion aboard a space ship which is forced to make an emergency landing. The ship lands on a very soft planet inhabited by tiny horse-like creatures. Since the advent of the clothes dryer on Earth tiny wormholes have been opening inside the dryers and sending lint, socks, and other small articles of clothing to this planet. At first the inhabitants thought they were gifts from the gods, however as more dryers were manufactured and put into use more articles were sent to the planet until the entire surface was covered several miles thick with lint and clothing. Now that some of the gods have arrived the horse-like creatures plan to attack Earth in order to stop any further clothing arrivals. I would really appreciate it if you could locate this story. How long was the story?

There was a series, I think in the 90s, about a planet of lost socks... the books came with a sock. Each story was about a different sock. I have one about a boy scout sock, but it's packed away somewhere. I tried looking on google and couldn't find it, and I'm astonished at how many stories there are about lost socks! If I come across my copy I will let you know.
