As an author one can do no better than to study this great novella. But be sure and read my essay here under the topic, "TGG as Social Critique," for an expanded perception. Neither of the most recent films delve very deeply into the corruption aspect of Gatsby. the '40s film, starring Alan Ladd, does, but it goes well beyond what's in the novel.
Also read my topic, "Gatsby's Criminality," where I chronologically document, chapter and page, the clues of Gatsby's criminal background.
Also stay tuned for my coming granular analysis of the climactic Plaza Hotel scene, where I will show how Fitzgerald deftly unmasks Gatsby as Tom undresses him for Daisy and all to see his corrupt character.

How is it so awesome that my attention towards Gatsby is high-strung, that it's one of the most mind boggling yet, beautiful love story ever written.
I will in fact read your essay "TGG as Social Critique," that I will surely add my input. As far as film rights, the directors are never as deep as a writer. (Typical). Its either it's not enough, or they do too much to make a point.
"Gatsby's Criminality" sounds very absorbing, and again... I will read it. Getting to know Gatsby has always been something I wanted to get into, and I thank you for bringing your perceptions to my attention, for I am a very shy person, but according to novels and brilliant characters such as Gatsby.. That's when I'll break out of my shell and converse!!!!!
