I love that book so much! The best book I read last year, and it's definitely in my all time top ten. Marlon James is a genius.
I've got a plethora of choices for this . . . I have a thing for big novels (to quote the saying, I like big books and I cannot lie!). The three that are on the top of my list for next year are City on Fire, The Queen of the Night, and Carry On.

Leslie (updates on SG) (leslie_ann) | 153 comments I'm going to read Middlemarch, which was recently named best British novel by international critics:

Oh yes, it is between that and A Little Life for me. Although I do have City on Fire on my shelf I have read mixed reports so I am kind of awaiting more reports from readers in here ;)

Cheryl Hager (cheryl_is_reading) | 73 comments I am probably going to read Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by Robin LaFevers .--done

message 9: by Laura (new)

Laura (liacobet) | 37 comments I have All the Light We Cannot See and The Goldfinch on my shelves, plus a few other 500+ pagers; this is going to be a tough choice so I'll announce when the time comes.

Added a few of the books mentioned in this post to my to-read list, thank you all for the recommendations!

message 10: by Beachesnbooks (new)

Beachesnbooks | 49 comments I love really long books, so this will be a fun one for me! I'm thinking I might go with one of these that are already on my TBR list for next year:
The Wise Man's Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #2) by Patrick Rothfuss Little, Big by John Crowley The Scar (Bas-Lag, #2) by China Miéville Possession by A.S. Byatt The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen

message 11: by Bea (new)

Bea Jaleenajo, I am just the opposite and often pass up a book that is over 500 pages. However, I've been wanting to read The Cider House Rules for years now, so maybe I will get up the nerve to tackle it for this task.

message 12: by Ollie Z (new)

Ollie Z Book Minx I've got quite a few of these on my TBR but I think I'll read Black Wolves by Kate Elliott. It was included on one of the 2015 monthly "Best Books We Read" post by book riot and sounds like it's right up my alley!

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

My wife bought me the Booker Shortlist for (pre)Christmas, so I plan to do some big reads with A Little Life and A Brief History of Seven Killings :)

message 14: by Brandyn (new)

Brandyn (brandy_k) | 59 comments One of my personal goals for 2016 is to tackle some of the harder big books that I keep putting off. My goal is 10 books over 500 pgs. Hopefully I end up with lots of choices for this category:) I'll probably start with "The Goldfinch".

message 15: by May (new)

May | 15 comments I'm planning on reading "a wise man's fear" by Patrick Rothfuss - "the name of the wind" was quite good too, and well over 500pp.

message 16: by Karin (new)

Karin (8littlepaws) | 119 comments I recently got City on Fire which is well over 500 pages as well.

Both are great. I can hardly wait for the third book to come out.

If you do chose another, this book could be used for Task 9 too, in audiobook format anyway.

That's a great idea for a reading goal, Brandyn...I may end up trying that too!

Nelly Habib | 22 comments For this i'm reading "The Night Circus"..it's 508 pages..been wanting to read it for a while :)

message 23: by Sean (new)

Sean (leftmostcat) | 28 comments Taking a bit of a risk for this one. I've started and set down Quicksilver a couple times before. Not that I find it disinteresting, but both times were periods where I was struggling to read anyhow, so hopefully I'll make it through this time.

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Morgan (sarahamo) | 7 comments It looks like A Gathering of Shadows the second book in the Darker Shade of Magic duology (that now looks like it might be a trilogy?) by Victoria Schwab that comes out in February is expected to be over 500 pages base on the Goodreads description. I will plan on using that book for this category.

Those are both great choices! I would totally reread those, but I'm trying to read only books that are new (to me) for the challenge.

IF it's true that Winds of Winter is coming out in 2016, I'll read that for this category, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too soon ;)

message 26: by Louise (new)

Louise (atrixa) This one should be easy, I love longer reads. I might go for Fingersmith by Sarah Waters.

message 27: by Jo (new)

Jo (allweatherreader) | 105 comments The Night Circus is wonderful - I envy anyone reading it for the first time.

I'm going with either Best Served Cold or City of Saints and Madmen, they've both been waiting for me for awhile now...

Hope it's true Lucia ! Unfortunately where i live - in Egypt - books don't come out at the same time as they do in the US..it's the shipping time..etc, in addition English books are pretty expensive..i do lots of orders over amazon, yet, they take a long time as well to arrive :D wishing you a happy reading :)

Shirley | 69 comments I'm looking at the blind assassin by Atwood, Jonathan strange and mr norrell as have been meaning to read that for a long time, the time travellers wife and I'm thinking of listening to middlemarch if that counts? The goldfinch is calling my name too

Robin P Shirley wrote: "I'm looking at the blind assassin by Atwood, Jonathan strange and mr norrell as have been meaning to read that for a long time, the time travellers wife and I'm thinking of listening to middlemarch..."

All good choices. A couple of them are well over 500 pages! I loved Jonathan Strange but it did take a long time to read, as it's also very "dense". On the other hand, The Time Traveller's Wife flew by, and the others were somewhere in between. Listening to a book certainly counts, even if it's not the audiobook category..

Thank you , that's good to know. I'm thinking of starting this task earlier in the year so I don't stress myself out trying to complete it later. I'm also on holiday the first week in January so a good time to start a chunkster

Karen Foster (karenfoster) Definitely "A Little Life" by Hanya Yanagihara ....

I have 2 other books on my tbr right now which also would fit here: A Brief History of Seven Killings and A Little Life. I guess I have to make time for lots of long books in 2016.

I loved The Scar. I also loved The Wise Man's Fear.

Martha (marthag503) I have so many books to read in this category. I'm not going to plan ahead in this category and may not record the first 500+ page book that I read.

I will probably read "Atlas Shrugged" for that one..been on my reading list for a few years now, probably it's time
