The 5th Wave

My thoughts on The Fifth Wave

This book really made me think about, what would happen if an apocalypse like this, were to happen. And, the way Cassie lives through all those difficult and depressing events. The Fifth Wave is about a 16 year old girl trying to survive a devastating alien apocalypse. She must deal with having left behind everything that made her a human being and just focusing on surviving by herself. She trusts no one, and that's how she survives. When she had to split up from her brother and her father, it was so depressing. But that pain that Cassie had to deal with, is what made her strong and what gave her the courage to survive.
What really moved me was when Cassie and her brother Sam where in the camp. They were about to hop on the helicopter, until one of the government's guards told Cassie that only kids were allowed. And as a group of three (Cassie and her brother, Sam, and her dad) only Sam was able to hop on the plane. When Sam asks Cassie, "You're going to come later, Cassie?" Cassie says, "You bet I am." Then Sam says, "You promise?", and you know what? Everytime a promise like this is made, it makes my heart explode. Cassie then promises, but the exact quote was "I promised. Whatever happened. No. Matter. What." (Yancey 82). And my favorite part so far, he gives her his teddy bear and tells her that it was going to protect her. AND THIS WAS JUST SO CUTE IT ALMOST MADE ME CRY! But anyway, the fact that Cassie promised that she'd reunite with her brother no matter what, kind of gave me a clue as to what might happen next. Maybe Cassie's goal is to find her brother and to reunite and give him the teddy bear that he said would protect her.
Oh, and can I just say that I love Sam so much. He's like the brother I never had ooooh my god. He was so cute when he gave his bear to her sister, Cassie. And when he said that the guard looked like Darth Vader and made those Star Wars refrences just made my heart exploooooode. I wish he was a real character ;-;
BUT YOU KNOW WHAT MADE ME SO MAD??? WHY COULDN'T THE GUARD LET CASSIE ON THE PLANE???? SHE IS STILL TECHNICALLY A CHILD!!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH. I FELT LIKE THROWING MY BOOK INTO A FIRE. RAAAAH.
Oh and I just love the way the author makes the book into Cassie's Diary. I love the way Cassie speaks throughout the book and the events that occurred.
I really recommend this book!

It was actually a yellow bus Sammy went on. But I agree, why wouldn't they allow her on the bus..? I can't wrap my head around it because Zombie is the same exact age as Cassie.
