Belle Blackburn | 166 comments I tend to say "Enjoy your adventure with Kate," but there has to be something better. When I inscribe several going to one person (who is gifting them) I really feel the need to increase my inscription vocabulary.

Jim Vuksic | 1227 comments Except in the case of personal acquaintances, I include the same standard inscription when signing books.
Reader's name,

I hope you enjoy reading about the world of "Levels" as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Jim Vuksic
The date.

Dwayne Fry | 349 comments I went up to someone one time who had just bought one of my books and offered to sign it. I took it from them and asked what I should write.

They shouted, "don't write on my Kindle, you idiot!"

It was a strange thing to inscribe, but the customer is always right.

K.P. Merriweather (kp_merriweather) | 276 comments I draw a chibi version of myself with a talk bubble that has different emotes or a saying like thanks for the support etc...

message 5: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 491 comments The first ten books I signed, I had a word but I also added the date, and a number 1 to 10 as I was going (you can always up the numbers if you want too such as 1-100). I'll never be famous but I'm thinking 'just in case'. First ten books would be a great collection item. As for what to write in them... Back then I had done a search on internet and noted down all the good ones I had found and alternated between them. And yes, when it all goes to the same person, as it did for 5 of mine, I tried not to put twice the same thing.

Sorry I'm not being of much help.

George R. (goodreadscomgeorgehopkins) | 13 comments I try to make it personal, but sometimes I resort to humor such as, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of dog, of course, it's too dark to read." If anyone would like to read my latest mystery/thriller and review it please drop me a line at hopkins109.com and I'll download a word copy. I don't know how to do the other fancy things with computers. But neither does a dog.

message 7: by Jay (new)

Jay Cole (jay_cole) | 292 comments "Please hand this to someone who can read." :-]

message 8: by Effie (new)

Effie Kammenou (effiekammenou) | 723 comments My book is a novel filled based on two Greek-American families, their loves, losses and struggles.
I give a little bit of Greece to them. I write, "Enjoy!" in English. But then in Greek I write, με αγάπη και φιλιά, and translate it underneath. "with love and kisses, a common Greek signature ending.

message 9: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Emme (Lisa_Emme) | 35 comments For some of my friends that bought books, I wrote "No, you're not in the book...this time." For most others I just write Cheers! and then sign my name. Not very original but it's quick and easy.

For a couple of books that I was giving away as prizes at my book launch, I wrote "I hope you enjoy this book. If you didn't, please pass it along to someone with better taste." and then signed them with a smiley face :-)

message 10: by Amber (new)

Amber Foxx (amberfoxx) | 250 comments My handwriting is so bad, I just work hard at making my name legible. I haven't dared say anything clever.

message 11: by M.R. (new)

M.R. Graham (mrgraham) | 21 comments "Pax tecum."
"The stars are closer than ever."
"Nolite te bastardes carborundorum."
"THE AUTHOR WAS HERE."
And once, to a friend who just couldn't find her start on her own novel: "Get your grubby mitts off my book and go write your own!"

Most of the books I sign, though, are sold at conventions, so there's always a way to reference whatever interesting thing the purchaser is wearing, carrying, talking about, etc.
