We know that Jud thought Clowance was "Clarence" so the pronunciations must have been similar--at least with a Cornish accent. Here is a SPOILER clip from a movie based on The Stranger from the Sea (view spoiler). The name is stated at the beginning of the clip and rhymes with "cow fence."
