Who Is Gabe in the Book

So, I've read several times on other reviews that Gabe is in the book, but I don't recall him. I figured it out about Jonas being Leader, but throughout I asked, where or who is Gabe? Other reviewers have said he's in there a bit, but, where? I don't recall or remember or guess.

Matty describes some of the people of Village in Chapter 2 and he mentions Gabe.

"In the schoolhouse, Mentor, the schoolteacher, gently tutored a mischievous eight-year-old named Gabe, who had neglected his studies to play and now needed help."

Ooohhh... Thank you! I must have missed it when I was listening to the audio.

These are all wrong if you look in chapter 3 Matty is talking to leader (Jonas) and leader says he first arrived in the village as a very young boy and had lost the only person he had here (Gabe) a couple weeks after entering the village.

Gabe is not in Messenger at all. He is mentioned and Messenger, and he is a main character in son, but he does not actually appear in Messenger.
